Best hand cream for sore, chapped hands?

What hand creams can you recommend for dry, sore, chapped hands? I actually have red and broken skin in a couple of places Hmm mainly from washing up several times a day!

I do apply hand cream regularly throughout the day but just cheap ish Vaseline or Nivea ones that I grab while doing the tesco shop. Looking to invest in something a bit more heavy duty and luxury if it will do a better job of moisturising and preventing the chapped look.....

Body shop hemp cream is bloody good if your on a budget. I would wear it under my gardening gloves or sit with chuck away latex gloves on at night. It works s treat.

Wolfiefan · 26/03/2015 19:17

Neutrogena is great.
(Cien SOS hand concentrate is v similar and much cheaper! Thanks Lidl and the MNer who wrote about it recently!)
Gloves in a bottle creates a barrier between hands and environment. (Use hand cream over.)
Gloves when outside and rubber gloves for housework and washing up.

justcallmethefixer · 26/03/2015 19:17

I second the body shop hemp cream, it repaired my cracked scaly hands in days

Kittykatmacbill · 26/03/2015 19:24

I get the same thingSad, I tried various hand creams but what is totally amazing is diprobase you can get tiny tubes in boots but we buy these www.amazon.co.uk/Doublebase-Diprobase-Cream-Emollient-500g/dp/B003I56NY6 they add a touch of class to the kitchen shelf... Hmm

Brookville · 26/03/2015 20:00

We get massive vats of Cetraben/Diprobase on prescription. There's one beside every sink in the house! It's great- not oily in the slightest. Dr told me to wear gloves for housework, wash hands in cold water, apply cream after each washing and wear gloves outdoors. I get nasty cracks at the top of my finger where it joins the nail. They are really sore and take 2 wks to heal. Don't get them in summer though so it must be the cold.

MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 26/03/2015 20:01

Body Shop hemp cream, bloody brilliant stuff!

whereismagic · 26/03/2015 20:07

Any heavy duty cream but in cotton gloves for the whole night.

Duckdeamon · 26/03/2015 20:09

Brookville, I find creams with urea in v good for split skin like that, can't remember the brand but from Boots and there's one for feet and one for hands. Greasy, bit like Vaseline, but effective!

ElsaShmelsa · 26/03/2015 20:11

Another one voting for the hemp cream from body shop. Need the tiniest amount too!!

WastingMyYoungYears · 26/03/2015 20:11

I find that the Body Shop hemp cream is too smelly, and Neutrogena doesn't really absorb for me, then it's greasy, then it doesn't help much Confused.

My newest find is E45 hand cream (there are a couple of different ones). It absorbs (yay!), then it's greasy (boo!), but then my hands are a bit better (yay!).

spudmasher · 26/03/2015 20:14

Aveeno works for me but you need some rubber gloves more I think!

yazzy85 · 26/03/2015 20:14

A thick layer of body shop Hemp Cream at night and I use their Almond Hand Cream during the day as scent is more appealing

WastingMyYoungYears · 26/03/2015 20:19

Oh yes, and lots of any cream whatsoever and cotton gloves overnight (Boots sell them in the medicine bit).

shadesofwinter · 26/03/2015 21:01

I have very dry hands which are prone to chopping, and I've found the best hand cream to be the Neutrogena Norwedian Formula. It's the only one that absorbs well and doesn't feel greasy

shadesofwinter · 26/03/2015 21:02

*Norwegian, obviously

Shesaysso · 26/03/2015 21:06

A vote for Body Shop Vitamin E cream (pink tube) the hemp doesn't do a thing on my hands but this is fantastic.

NorksAreMessy · 26/03/2015 21:09

Another vote for Norwegian formula...magic stuff
And I have been known to use 'cracked heel cream' on my hands overnight

Catswiththumbs · 26/03/2015 21:10

Kiehls.

I have tried EVERY hand cream in the land. This is the very best.

Kasterborous · 26/03/2015 21:12

Another vote for the body shop hemp hand cream.

cate16 · 26/03/2015 21:12

I often use olive oil.

Theknacktoflying · 26/03/2015 21:12

Heel balm is sometimes the only thing that works for me ...

Leo35 · 26/03/2015 21:18

Crabtree and Evelyn Gardeners Hand Therapy is fab. I use Lansinoh on split and chapped, sore skin in the winter (esp. putting it on last thing at night to work overnight). Neutrogena Norwegian handcream is pretty good as well, but I find that I use the tube up v. quickly.

If you can get used to using rubber gloves to do the washing up it will help. Detergents can really strip the oils from your skin.

Lovethebubbles · 26/03/2015 21:20

I've tried loads and my favourite is Dr Organic, manuka honey hand and nail cream. Seems to last longer than body shop hemp cream and smells much nicer. Hemp cream smells awful!

Super8 · 26/03/2015 21:21

Handy gurugu by lush - not the greatest smelling hand cream so use at night. works though..even improved Psoriasis scales on my elbows.

CointreauVersial · 26/03/2015 21:39

Neutrogena Norwegian Formula.

I only discovered it recently, and this is the first winter I've not had cracked, eczema-ridden hands. Brilliant stuff; you only need a little and it soaks straight in.
