The Apple & Inverted Triangle Thread

I can't see any recent threads on this topic so thought I'd start one.

For those of us who are 'blessed' with top heavy figures - whether that is in the form of big norkage or broad shoulders - and don't have the worry of big bums or saddle-bags perhaps a bit of a tummy though

It seems really difficult to find style/fashion advice for non-pears, which doesn't focus on how to hide your bum, hips, thighs, legs, so I thought I'd even out the playing field.

I thought we could have lists (god, I love lists) on which shops and makes or styles are 'apple' friendly (both high street and online and both cheap and expensive, so come and add your favourite apple/inverted triangle friendly shops, web sites, blogs, online retailers (in this and other countries) so that we have a one stop shop resource for all things apple/inverted triangle.

here's what I've learned so far which has helped me find my kind of clothes.

Boden: Bistro crops are perfect for apples as they have a larger waist than you'd expect for the hip size and the legs are narrow.
Topshop: Kristen jeans / leggings are perfectly cut for apples
DKNY/Donna Karan - everything fits.
Monsoon - great if you avoid the over-bedazzled stuff

My favourite blog is styleisalanguage simply because they show stylish, beautiful women of all ages. I also like theschoolrun and wearingittoday (WIT). I know a lot of Mumsnetters don't like WIT but I like her simply because she looks normal and un-model-like so I can imagine wearing what she's wearing. I also like doesmybumlook40 but I'm not that fashionable and fear I may look quite mad if I tried to emulate her look. (I look middle-aged whereas I don't think she does due to being thin and wearing dark sunglasses)!

Did you have a gilet in mind Frostycake? I would love to suit them, but find anything sleeveless just makes me look like a tree trunk with skinny twig arms and legs...?
I'm sick of skinnies/jeggings but don't know what to wear on top with flares (am much more comfortable in baggy tops).

Aldi do clothes? Who knew!

Yes FairyWings Ive seen a few now that would be good for apples. Dorothy Perkins have loads in but I find the best for our shape are the ones which are shaped with princess seaming and use flat material in the main with just a fur colar or a fur trip down the front and around the arms. DPs have a gorgeous chinchilla gilet at the moment but i looked like Sasquach in it Grin

I bought one with a faux fur front and knitted back from Kaleidescope which really cuts down on bulk but gives the same effect.

Ive also bought a sheepskin one from Etsy which it a size smaller than Id normally buy but which leaves the front open to reveal whats underneath, giving a slim line.

I think with flares you need a close fitting top to balance. Baggy tops only work with skinnies.

I'm in

Me too, fed up with looking like an old parsnip in pumps.

Marking spot!

I am an apple without the big boobs. Big arms, linebacker shoulder, big ribcage, short torso, and long nice legs and slim hips. I used to stay away from skinnies but during the past few years it was physically impossible to find something else. I was so glad when boyfriend jeans came along.

Frostycake · 13/01/2016 10:30

Welcome JustJaded

I'm the same as you. I have long thin, straight legs and I find that slim jeans are the best fit for me. They are straight and fit closely but not tightly like skinnies (so avoid the carrot leg effect). I find straight leg jeans/trousers/jeggings too loose.

Like you I thank God that low waist jeans and trousers have disappeared. My stomach needs no encouragement to hang over my waistband thanks very much. I still have trouble occassionally with the rise being being cut funny and getting er... cut in half sometimes though. I find Zara good and Topshop too.

I think our legs are one of our best assets so we should show them off.

NYDJ are the best fit for my apple shaped body or Levis slight curve.
