So: culottes. Are we doing them?

I rather love these and they've got 20% off. But will I look silly?

I'm 36, 5'7, size 10-12, slight but not-too-bad baby tummy.

I think they look more like a skirt on the model. Obviously she's a mega-babe Envy

Anyone out there contemplating a culotte purchase?

I'm contemplating these from Cos. But then again, the verdict on the last thing I was contemplating, a sleeveless blazer-dress, was that it looked like a housecoat.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/03/2015 14:26

ooh I like those Smile

And floaty skorts

When I see the word 'cullottes' I visualise something that Lofty from "It Ain't Half Hot, Mum" would wear

DaphneMoonCrane · 20/03/2015 14:37

Skorts? Is that a thing? Brilliant!

They're groovy, niminy. The model looks bloody miserable, though Grin

Nerf · 20/03/2015 14:46

Oh dear god niminy take someone shopping with you next time Grin
Op, like the floaty ones - I think yes to culottes that hang like a skirt and could be worn mid calf.

niminypiminy · 20/03/2015 14:50

Haven't bought them yet, Nerf Smile. But I'll have to hurry up, they're almost sold out. Cos models always look like that -- as if they're some kind of non-smiling alien race.

Floaty, meh. For me, structure is more flattering.

SuperFlyHigh · 20/03/2015 14:51

No way on earth am I doing culottes! The last time I wore them was in primary school and it was bad enough back then!

NoRockandRollFun · 20/03/2015 14:53

I've got three pairs!

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 20/03/2015 14:55

I love them, want more pairs Smile

Nerf · 20/03/2015 14:57

Niminy, I live a bit of structure - they are quite fierce though. Buy them and do a little twirl on here

DaphneMoonCrane · 20/03/2015 14:59

SuperFly yes, that's what's worrying me. I had some in the mid-90s (so I was mid-teens). They were more like skorts, though Grin

Your first link looks like the kind of thing a pregnant Fergie would have worn in the 1980's.

If I was going to wear them (I'm not) I think I prefer the more preppy, 1970's type culottes.

labelwriter · 20/03/2015 15:06

I have some lovely navy wool ones from Zara, I love them but never quite sure what to wear with them foot wise.

kickassangel · 20/03/2015 15:07

I long for culottes to be fashionable. I get chub rub (and did as a skinny teen) so hate wearing skirts, but need something that is lighter than jeans.

mowglik · 20/03/2015 15:08

I've got 3 pairs too wore them last summer - was really comfortable and they look great with heels

southeastastra · 20/03/2015 15:23

why would you look silly? i have some black ones that i lived in last summer, they looked good and were cool

TheCraicDealer · 20/03/2015 15:24

I got these short ones in Hollister yesterday. They're nice on and worth getting your head torch out- I'm way shorter than that model so not as obscene. Hoping they'll stop The Chafe on holidays.

DaphneMoonCrane · 20/03/2015 15:25

LOL at pregnant Fergie. It's a look, I guess...

OP posts:
Marshy · 20/03/2015 15:30

I've never seen anyone look good in culottes. You may be the exception op but I doubt it

There was a thread around recently along the lines of 'clothes that adults should never wear'. Culottes should definitely be on that list

anothernumberone · 20/03/2015 15:38

The craic my friend had a similar pair on last weekend. She looked fab but she is a serious runner and has great legs. I would look rediculous. I am not a fan of the long culottes, even on the models. I made a pair of them in home ec I wonder if my mum still has them not

OnlyLovers · 20/03/2015 15:41

No way. They don't look good on ANYONE, IMO. Not in the sense that they're not flattering to size/height etc; I just think they're a silly shape and length.

southeastastra · 20/03/2015 15:42

i don't get the hate really mine just look like a longish skirt and are quite flowy.

IHaveBrilloHair · 20/03/2015 15:44

No, but that length anything is truly hideous on me.

IHaveBrilloHair · 20/03/2015 15:46

Oh just seen the Hollister ones and like, in fact I have a plain black skirt that length and shape which I love.

Judydreamsofhorses · 20/03/2015 15:47

Those Great Plains ones are really lovely. I have some black polka dot ones from last summer - I wore them with tucked in tops (grey marl t-shirt type stuff) and sandals. Today I tried these in Warehouse and am quite tempted. I had on opaques and ankle boots and thought they looked good. (I'm a 10/12 with a small waist/big hips and 5ft 6, for ref.)
