Why are all dresses above the knee?

I've got shit knees. I hate them. Plus at 5ft 9 calf length is the most flattering on me. I don't like Bodycon dresses which are the only ones blowed the knee. what happened to midi length? When I put in in a search engine it just brings up knee length.

I just want a below the knee summer dress in cotton. is this short dress thing a way of saving manufacturers money or something? It's been around for years

But the midi ones always come up as one length. I'm going to check now

Half the time, skirts labelled 'midi' finish at the knee Confused

SirVixofVixHall · 07/03/2015 16:53

I feel the same. I'm an inch shorter, and also hate my (chubby..ughh) knees. I also don't have to worry about how much doughy thigh i might be flashing whenever I sit down. It drives me barmy that so many dresses hit just above the knee, the most unflattering point on me even when I had lovely slim legs.

SirVixofVixHall · 07/03/2015 16:53

Don't WANT to have to worry, sorry, somehow didn't type that in!

SirVixofVixHall · 07/03/2015 16:54

Oh and I agree that midi length, which used to mean mid lower leg, now seems to mean above the knee? Why?

MissBattleaxe · 07/03/2015 16:58

Totally agree with you. I don't want above the knee or ankle length mix dresses. But there doesn't seem to be any middle ground.

And don;t get me started on dresses with sleeves- where are they?

I miss the 90s. Sad

GoofyIsACow · 07/03/2015 17:00

Ooh place marking, i am your height with knees of similar shitness Wink

tethersend · 07/03/2015 17:01

not cotton but I like this one

Orangeanddemons · 07/03/2015 17:01

I've looked on Asos. I typed in Midi. A million knee length dresses came up. Bearing in mind that I'm tall, knee length always always ends up above knee. I want a calf length non plastic summer dress with sleeves. And not with a neckline that strangles me. A SUMMER type neckline.

I've been searching for this Holy Grail for about 6 years...

Totally. I am hurtling towards 40. (Though naturally I don't look it.)Wink.
I want midi dresses in wool, silk or cotton. With sleeves.
The 90s though? Bodycon sleeveless polo neck dresses, and shapeless denim slouch skirts?
Nooo!
I think Oasis had some midi skirts recently.

tethersend · 07/03/2015 17:04

still not cotton, but nice

tethersend · 07/03/2015 17:06

Viscose again. Why is everything viscose?

GoofyIsACow · 07/03/2015 17:10

I like this, but prob too short

here

Orangeanddemons · 07/03/2015 17:11

I've been eyeing that one up in Urban Outfitters for a bit. But then I thought as I'm not 20 and lithe, I might look like a grandma in it. I'm not sure I can pull off the ironic thing. I do like it though. Other stories usually get the length right, but then have some random back piece missing. I need it for work. As a teacher. A secondary school teacher...

Orangeanddemons · 07/03/2015 17:15

I like that blue one...but the cost! I've got millions of stripes t shirt dresses. I get too hot in them. I want proper woven fabric

OP posts:
tethersend · 07/03/2015 17:17

this would be nice with a belt

RitaOrange · 07/03/2015 17:17

Oh there is a review saying the fabric is awful Confused
Its a cotton dress - fabric is fine and I loved the slight fullness .
planning on wearing mine to death!

PingPongBat · 07/03/2015 17:18

OP I have the exact same gripe. At 5'11" I have steered clear of dresses for years because of this. As I approach 50 (yikes Shock) I also want to hide at least my upper arms. It does seem like if you don't want to bare your knees and upper arms then you have to wear trousers and cardigans these days.

If you like Boden, I've actually found a few of their 'Long' versions of a couple of dresses have been just about OK - skimming just on/below my knees. Personally I only buy their plain fabrics as I'm not keen on the prints. I tried Long Tall Sally but they're just too long.

I've got this one from Hobbs which doesn't look long, it actually reached my knees and is nicer on than it looks on the website. But it's not really summer dress, more for spring.

Orangeanddemons · 07/03/2015 17:20

I've given up on the fit of Boden dresses. Miniscule room for boobage, massive on hips, and waistlines way to high...even on the longer length

Sleeves. How hard can it be to add an extra few incessant to a dress? I end up having to wear shrugs or cardigans in mid summer ?weeps bitterly?

For those struggling, try planet they seem to have a range that works, although the creeping knee makes the odd appearance.
