Ashamed of my beauty product hoard!

IPokeBadgers · 01/03/2015 15:04

I have spent some time this morning trying to sort and tidy my beauty and toiletries cupboard and I am actually feeling veryShock andBlush at the sheer volume of stuff that I have, much of it lovely and expensive and unopened!

I reckon it could take me a couple of years to get through it all!

Buying make up as well as lovely bath and shower stuff seems to have become my go to/default pick me up when I want to impulse buy...... but seeing the hoard has brought me down.

anyone else like this and are there any threads that would encourage me to stop buying stuff and use all the lovely products that I have?

please tell me I am not the only person like this?

My never-ending Chanel lip pencil is down to matchstick length and cannot be sharpened any more. It took about 1.5 years of daily use. I grew to like this natural nude toned pencil and have repurchased the same shade.

Also used up mini Clinique Clear Difference UltiMatte blotting sheets.

Two empties here today - Gatineau melatogenine collagen serum and a Laura geller mascara - both replaced with identical items from stock Blush

IPokeBadgers · 07/07/2015 14:06

Thanks Eliza Smile

Costa - i havent tried the LG mascaras yet, are they any good?

Costacoffeeplease · 07/07/2015 16:37

I quite like them because there are a lot of mascaras I don't get on with, too many fibres that irritate my eyes etc, LG ones are quite ordinary, but that's fine for me as my lashes are naturally quite long, but need a bit of definition!

mowglik · 07/07/2015 23:56

A couple of sample and 2 full size empties for me:
Benton snail bee high content essence - been patting this on before serums and creams but not sure it's been doing anything, skin hasn't been amazing lately but this may be due to starting retinol. Have a few more samples of this so will continue to trial this
Tata harper elixir vitae cream - very strong herbalist smell, didn't do much but maybe that's because I don't have any wrinkles yet, more clarity issues
Full size Jo Malone wood sage and sea salt hand wash - ok but very faint scent which doesn't last long. Am swapping out all my other hand washes for Scottish fine ones, gorgeous scents which lasts longer on the skin
Loreal extraordinary hair oil - use a tiny bit on my ends every day and it makes my hair look amazing, already have another back up to start

Slowly getting through my samples stash can't wait til they are all done with!

mowglik · 07/07/2015 23:57

Sorry for lack of paras :/

FrugalFashionista · 08/07/2015 16:27

I made a horrible discovery: I thought I was done with body products, but I still have a bagful of hotel toiletries, including three mini moisturizers. And I found a full-size body butter and a dull-looking pharmacy moisturizer, at leat three tubes of various Eucerin creams, and two tubes of cooling foot cream.

On the plus side, when I started using up my stash, I had five or six drawers full of beauty products. They were so full that it was difficult to open them! Now my stash has shrunk to three drawers. So it is going well, but I will be using up stuff for the rest of the year...

I am re-doubling my efforts in regard to using up body products!

I've just found out I'm pregnant Grin

My skin has become incredibly dry and I will be attempting to stem the tide of further stretch marks from my pregnant belly...This may be futile.

  1. I'm determined to be thoroughly moisturised at all times.
  2. I'm not going to get much time to pamper myself in the next year
  3. I am so knackered and I look like a bag of spanners.

Presumably I am allowed to buy lovely baby products? They don't count do they?

FrugalFashionista · 08/07/2015 22:12

Congrats Paperblank! Yes you are allowed to buy lovely baby products but please don't go totally overboard. I did and have just done a mega clearout, as DD2 is 5 and his is it for us. Most of the stuff I thought was vital was never needed or used once or twice... But do pamper yourself a little Wink

FrugalFashionista · 08/07/2015 22:13

This is it... Blush You cannot imagine the amount of baby stuff we had, easily a truckload

FrugalFashionista · 09/07/2015 08:13

Finally used up this Effaclar foaming face wash, have had it lying around for several years. SLS is the 2nd ingredient, this was awful for my face but I gradually used it up on my body. The tube is huge so it was really slow going. I fear I have a backup somewhere Blush Repurchase? Never...

Ashamed of my beauty product hoard!
jjwhite · 09/07/2015 14:56

Congratulations Paperblank - how exciting - lots of moisturising sounds like a great idea :-)

Two empties for me:

Diptyque Softening Hand Wash: really nice, lovely smell, does leave your hands feeling softer and less stripped. Wont repurchase for the time being as there's other things I'd rather spend £30 on, but might consider it as a gift for someone else in the future.

Vichy Micellar Water Normaderm: I really rate this for my spot-prone skin (and I've tried a lot of other micellar waters) but it hasn't had a big publicity push/doesn't have bloggers raving about it so it's quite an unsung hero. That said, since discovering the Garner micellar water which is a fraction of the price of all the others (Bioderma, Vichy, La Roche Posay etc.) I won't repurchase for the time being.

FrugalFashionista · 10/07/2015 09:25

I finished a Lily Lolo lipgloss in Bitten Pink. My favorite gloss, I have one or two backups, but have gone back to wearing lipstick so don't use my glosses as much as before.

I've organized and packed every beauty item in the house. I finally have an idea of how much I have. In our new home will try to organize it in a logical way, everything in one place, sorted by category, probably in acrylic lockers so that I can see everything at a glance and use everything up.

Put on some moisturizer from my hotel minis and it has the most godawful marine scent ever, like rotten seaweed

ememem84 · 10/07/2015 22:37

I've dropped off the thread for a while as was getting sad at not finishing anything.

bUT. Am stupid close to finishing a small bottle of Tommy girl and a Milton brown body moisturiser. Have been slathering it on like there's no tomorrow.

Am flying into London next week for work for the day so will have to avoid duty free....I'm after another ysl plum mascara.....don't really need it though....

Annarose2014 · 10/07/2015 22:45

Finished a shampoo & conditoner. The L'oreal Fibrology thickening ones. They certainly worked - you'll have hair like a haystack! So I would repurchase.

The thickening comes at the expense of silkiness, but a serum sorts that out so no biggie. If you've got very thin hair they're worth a punt.

Best of all I'm now down to one Shampoo (1/3 left only) and one conditioner. Feels great!

I've also almost used up an ENTIRE pan of eyeshadow in my Naked 2 palette since this thread started and I've hit pan on another (my fifth so far). I'll post a pic when I get that pan completely clear which should be in the next week. I think it'll be the first time in 20 years I've cleaned out a whole eyeshadow!

Costacoffeeplease · 11/07/2015 08:35

Two empties for me today - a sephora lip balm which felt a bit heavy and gloopy so I used it up on my nails, and a gale hayman lip lift which I do like, moisturising but light

legohurtswhenyoustandonit · 11/07/2015 08:56

I was doing quite well - finished up an Arran Aromatics mandarin and mint body lotion (light texture, fresh smell, would repurchase) and a Body Shop chocolate body wash (the smell wasn't to my taste). Then I purchased another body lotion (with spf in it, that was my excuse) and a hand cream from a small independent company. So no overall progress.

ememem84 · 12/07/2015 13:19

EMPTY!!!

Aussi conditioner!!! Yes!!!!

Have hit serious pan on a face powder.

Melonfool · 12/07/2015 16:37

Right, I have turfed out a load of stuff I'm never going to use, put it in an old Amazon box and it will be taken to the admin centre of the local women's refuge this week. It includes a set of hair straighteners and some soft curlers (indecisive, moi?).

RJnomore · 12/07/2015 16:51

Does anyone have another use for foot creams? It's the one thing I can't seem to get down. I've got about four jars and tubes of assorted foot creams...

Costacoffeeplease · 12/07/2015 17:31

Use them as hand cream? Elbows and knees?

ememem84 · 12/07/2015 17:48

me too RJ i can't seem to use them up. i used a nivea blue pot up on my feet, but don't fancy using foot stuff on elbows/knees etc as have tonnes of moisturiser already for that (is there a chance i can be over moisturised??)

jjwhite · 12/07/2015 23:05

Seems like we're all having a bit of a second wind of finishing things up :-) This week I've used up two further things (and full size products not just minis - yay!)

Clarins Beauty Repair Concentrate - this is a serum that you apply before moisturiser and although I was a bit ambivalent at first (it smells strongly of peppermint oil) I actually thing it's a pretty decent product. It does make a noticeable difference to my skin - I apply it at night and when I wake up the next morning my skin looks plumper/more radiant than if I'd just used moisturiser. It also doesn't break me out or aggravate my somewhat sensitive skin which is a massive plus. It is expensive but a little goes a long way and this has taken ages to use up. I would repurchase although not until I've made my way through the million other serums I currently have already!

Garnier Micellar water - so good! If you usually buy expensive micellar waters but feel like you're fed up of forking out a lot of money to continually replace them, give this a try. It's significantly cheaper than Bioderma, Vichy, La Roche-Posay etc. and, for me atleast, as good a product. I will definitely be repurchasing (after I've finished two Eucerin micellar minis!)

I'm also in the same boat with the foot creams... i've never intentionally bought one but somehow have accumulated quite a few (through gift with purchase type things). My little tip is to every now and then give yourself a 'foot mask' where you basically smother your feet in a huge amount of the cream and then put plastic bags over the top and leave it for 10-20 mins before washing off the excess... Sounds a bit weird but it's basically the same concept as a face mask (and the bags protect your feet while you're walking around - although alternatively you could just sit still with your feet up for 20 mins I suppose...) I find that the occasional 'foot mask' makes me get through the foot creams that bit quicker as I'd never otherwise apply foot cream.

ememem84 · 13/07/2015 17:56

Yes! With the Nivea blue pot I slathered it all over feet then Cling filmed then put socks on. Then put feet in a hot water bottle.

I am actually making a conscious effort to moisturise my feet. I must use it up!!!

Finished my perfume this morning. Goodbye Tommy girl. I might repurchase as I do love it. But have 2 Jo Malones to use up first.
