Ashamed of my beauty product hoard!

I have spent some time this morning trying to sort and tidy my beauty and toiletries cupboard and I am actually feeling veryShock andBlush at the sheer volume of stuff that I have, much of it lovely and expensive and unopened!

I reckon it could take me a couple of years to get through it all!

Buying make up as well as lovely bath and shower stuff seems to have become my go to/default pick me up when I want to impulse buy...... but seeing the hoard has brought me down.

anyone else like this and are there any threads that would encourage me to stop buying stuff and use all the lovely products that I have?

please tell me I am not the only person like this?

Two empties here this morning - samples of Benefit's facial emulsion and whatever the accompanying serum is called. Both are nice enough but won't be repurchasing as they are no better than similar products that can be bought for around a fiver! I will be using the pretty wee bottles for flowers though :)

FrugalFashionista · 30/06/2015 16:28

I've used up a Chanel Coco Rouge lipstick! Because this was my favorite shade (#34 Satin), I used up absolutely everything with a lip brush. There is just a tiny bit left for swatching - the shade has been discontinued but I would like to find a close match. I have a Nars lipstick that is pretty close but I don't like it as much, it seems to become darker during the day. This was such an effortless MLBB shade.,,

I have two other lipsticks that are almost gone. And I hit pan in my brow duo his morning! It's an old taupe Revlon eyeshadow, I've used it daily for more than a year...

It's my pleasure Frugal - I might as well be honest esp. if it stops just one other reader on this forum from wasting money on an overhyped/overpriced product! I've been loving hearing about your pre-house move 'using things up' regime! I'm moving mid-August and am likewise aiming to get rid of lots of the junk that I don't want to cart from one place to the next. I have a large basket that currently holds abut half of all my beauty products and my aim is to use up so many things that all that's left can fit comfortably in the basket. (So that means I basically need to use up 50% of my 'stash' ... a bit of a challenge!)

One (rather boring) empty:

Batiste dry shampoo (pink and green can) - I don't use this very often, but it can come in extremely handy esp. when travelling. I haven't tried any other dry shampoos but I find this one does the job and seems to be at the cheaper end of the spectrum so I probably will repurchase.

Things i'm getting through at an alarming speed and will shortly be using up/reviewing: La Roche Posay aftersun, Pai stretch mark body moisturiser, Eucerin SPF 15 day cream, Eve Lom cleansing balm, Diptyque hand wash, Clarins Beauty serum. Will review v. soon!

Is anyone else loving the sudden hot weather? I'm finally managing to get through all the SPFs and body moisturisers that have been looking a bit neglected over the winter!

Couple of bog standard empties: Dr Organic Vitamin E Shampoo and Conditioner from Holland & Barrett. Claims to be Super hydrating....if anything I thought it actually had a drying effect on my hair so doubt I will repurchase. Think that is my shampoo/conditioner stockpile down to a manageable level Grin

Laura Mercier primer finished. It had begun to smell pretty bad so it was probably time to say goodbye anyway. Will repurchase once I have finished my tube of the radiance version - it is fabulous stuff. Even in 30 plus degrees today my makeup went nowhere Grin

IPokeBadgers · 02/07/2015 09:11

A Laura Geller Balance n Brighten founfation in Fair - done! This is at least the 3rd one of these i've used: I like it and have at least a couple in reserve in the hoard! I think my aim is to get to a point [with products i like] of having one in use and JUST the one in reserve! Grin

I dont think the BnB is drying like some powder foundations, and i think it is very handy to have in the make-up bag. I wouldnt carry a bottle of foundation around with me, but for mornings when i am not quick enough to get my face done before i leave the house, a quick brush-on of the LG when i get to my desk is enough to make me presentable.

For me it gives a nice coverage, evens out my skin tone and makes me look a bit more done . It isnt heavy coverage but i think i am quite lucky with my skin to be honest. For anyone wanting full coverage i very much doubt that it would be enough, despite the QVC sales pitch that witters on about it allowing buildable coverage.

I love LG BnB - I have quite a few in stock as I wear fair in winter and medium in summer - I like a lot of her make up, the eyeliners are good with little built-in sharpeners and smudgers, some of the eye shadows can be a bit glittery, but I think she's toned that down a bit recently. Her lipsticks and glosses are good too - I think I must be one of her best customers Blush

IPokeBadgers · 02/07/2015 09:53

Hi Costacoffee - as well as the LG BnB, I really like the LG eyeshadows, and have a couple of nice glosses.

Not so great with blushers....havent hit it quite right with them yet, but that is probably because i tend to buy QVC sets rather than selecting individual products - something that has probably contributed to the overwhelming hoard which was the reason i originally started this thread! Smile

Was so pleased to see FeelUnique was stocking LG but havent had good experiences with ordering: one attempt to order a single BnB resulted in me getting sent a bronzer, then another bronzer, then there was one order that supposedly got lost in transit before i finally received the product i had originally ordered! Then i ordered a make-up set and the brush was missing. To be fair, weeks later they sent me a replacement set free of charge Grin

I'm a sucker for the qvc tsv sets too - so tempting to get 5 or 6 products for not much more than the BnB on its own! I'm not a big blusher user, so do have a pile of those that probably won't get used that quickly, if at all, but I don't really know anyone who would use them either!

IPokeBadgers · 02/07/2015 11:55

Glad it's not just me with regard to the blushers! I do tend to use everything else [eventually] though, so it does still feel like a better idea to get the sets.

I must be a marketing [wo]man's dream: I have totally bought into the "lower cost per item" schtick!

Another Laura Geller fan here. I think I have found my Holy Grail foundation with balance and brighten!

Costacoffeeplease · 02/07/2015 19:07

Me too - I've never got on with liquid foundations, although I guess they've changed a lot over the years, but BnB gives me enough coverage without being dry and cakey, and it's so quick and foolproof - it's revolutionised my make up routine

Darkchocsprinkles · 02/07/2015 19:10

Small bottles of L'Occitane shampoo and conditioner finished. Nothing special at all, but kinder to my hair than Fibrology which pretty much shredded it Grin

Melonfool · 02/07/2015 19:37

This heat helps, had three showers and cleansed face three times so far today, at least one more before bed.

legohurtswhenyoustandonit · 02/07/2015 21:24

Another two empties. Burts Bees foot cream and Protect and Perfect hand cream. I didn't really rate the foot cream. It was sticky and took forever to soak in. I think body butter is just as good. The handcream was fab though and I will repurchase. It improved the texture of the skin on the back of my hands in a few weeks. It also has an spf in it. I know that it isn't enough if you are out in the sun for a long time, but is probably good enough for the return walk to the school, play park, hanging out washing etc. I will repurchase.

IPokeBadgers · 03/07/2015 08:37

Another empty: a bottle of Clarins Eau Dynamisante, limited edition bottle.

Little bit sad to finish this particular bottle: bought it in the airport on the way home from the first trip over to England to see if the holiday romance bloke was going to be more than just a holiday romance. That was 6 years ago, and we will be celebrating our second wedding anniversary next Friday Grin

Ooh loving the romantic story Badgers!
My beach holiday empties:

Nivea sunscreen spf 20
Nivea sunscreen spf 30
Dr Jart Micro Water (micellar)
Mini Colgate toothpaste
3-4 Innisfree sheet masks

None of these (except sheet masks) were particularly thrilling.

IPokeBadgers · 06/07/2015 16:10

Thanks Frugal Grin

I have FINALLY finished a bottle of J'adore!!

I was so bored of it I was considering using it as air freshner.

Thank goodness it's done now.

IPokeBadgers · 07/07/2015 11:53

Paperblank - I am laughing out loud at the idea of J'Adore being used as airfreshener because I have to admit slight feelings of guilt that i am using a Body Shop EDT in the bathroom for that very purpose because it doesnt sit well on my skin....

At least i didnt contemplate using the Dior to freshen up the smallest room!
