Can anyone find me something that makes me look slim?

I've got a thing to go to next week where it kind of matters how slim or otherwise I look (it's all a bit embarrassing so I'd rather not say what if that's ok).

I've lost a lot of weight, but I'm still about 4lb from the right BMI for my height. (5 ft 8)

So, there's no real dress code...I'm thinking on the casual side more than night out or full on smart though. I do have some skinny jeans that I look good in, so just a top would be fine, or a whole outfit...I'm short of clothes anyway as mine don't fit anymore.

I'm a 14, I could possibly do a big 12, but I'd go for 14 if it's online.

My stomach isn't amazing, the rest of me is ok, but fitted stuff suits me better than too flowing...oh and I'm a bit busty, so high necklines don't work.

Most colours are fine, I have slightly olivey skin and dark hair.

Can anyone help me? I don't really have a style as I'm so used to just having to buy anything that is big enough and isn't too awful.

Congrats on the weight loss, that's amazing.

You seem to like skater style dresses which in my experience don't work too well on apples, but you could be the exception.

If you are going to be photographed, I would say make sure you wear something you feel confident and comfortable in to allow you to really enjoy the day.

It's not the style, it's the unicorns, lol...

So far other than being quite attached to the idea of unicorns - I like that phase 8 top that's been linked to a couple of times, I find their sizing/ possibly the cut of things a bit odd so I'll go and try that on rather than order 3 sizes and forget to send 2 back, lol.

RonaldMcDonald · 02/03/2015 11:14

Right
this one is sparkly will work with not too defined waist and has short sleeves
any good?

RonaldMcDonald · 02/03/2015 11:32

I just like this

Pantsalive · 02/03/2015 17:04

Nothing useful to say, I'm afraid, other than I was looking at unicorn dresses only yesterday and I'm a darn sight older than you...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/03/2015 18:35

Sparkly thing would look a bit weird for a day time thing, no?

RandomMess · 02/03/2015 18:41

Sounds like a trip to a department store to be brave and try on lots of very different things to what you normally wear and find the "new" you?

tabulahrasa · 02/03/2015 19:44

The debenhams unicorn dress came, I haven't tried it on yet, but I don't think it'll work...(strokes the unicorn pattern lovingly)

I can't wear that sparkly dress, I have learned this as I also have a 'thing' for sequins, I look like an oven ready turkey.

Yes, I think actual shopping may be required Sad

Sorry I missed the daytime bit....for some ( made up ) reason I thought it was like a fancy pants awards do

tabulahrasa · 03/03/2015 09:19

To be fair, it says something along the lines of wear whatever you feel good in whether that's casual or dressed to the nines Confused

But I wouldn't be comfortable going too OTT.

I believe there is some sort of award ceremony for people who win stuff like this - I honestly don't think we will though. But I figure if we're going to go, I might as well try to, however awkward I feel about it, lol.

Hey tabulahrasa! Serious congratulations on the weight loss! Flowers You should be really proud of yourself! I can relate to being selfconscious about what I wore after losing a couple of stone. I still thought of myself as huge when in fact I wasn't. Took a long time for that to sink in... now post baby I feel huge again! Grin. Have you seen the Nigella dresses? Not sure what you want to spend, but I've tried this on and they really do give you a waist. Fabric stretches every which way and pulls you in - and not in an obvious contour panel dress kind of way. I'm a 14 but can get away with a 12 because of the stretch. A bit va va voom but classic and surprisingly comfortable to wear. They do other colours but I like the dots myself. Hope you find something you love and makes you feel great. I think thats the hardest part after losing weight, its hard to let go of dressing for your old shape, even though it only now exists in your head! Don't forget to tell us what you bought!

tabulahrasa · 09/03/2015 20:36

Well I ended up wearing a fairly boring black dress that I originally bought for a funeral...but DP was wearing a suit, so we kind of matched and I was wearing a black dress in my before photo.

We didn't win, lol. But actually it wasn't as excruciating as I thought it would be and the couple that did win have lost 21 st 5 lb between them, which is pretty amazing really.

So thanks for all the help, even though I didn't wear a new outfit, lol.

I also now have an okish after photo, which is nice. Smile
