Mmm.... Soon to be senior citizen Madge in bonkers thong flashing bad taste burlesque matador outrage Vs Daily Mail's ladies of a certain age should be kept out of view to avoid upsetting public sensibilities and remain swathed in beige natural fibres at all times.

Know whose side I'm on Wink.

Behooven · 09/02/2015 22:27

Well tbh brunhilda, some things are better unseen, Madge's arse being one of them
I don't fall into your second category either, but IMO she is just trying too hard and failing

Goodwordguide · 09/02/2015 22:29

But she's had soo much work done - her face is eerily smooth and tight - I can't see how she can claim not to care what people think, it all looks a bit desperate.

Compare Madonna with Vivienne Westwood for example - VW grows old disgracefully, pleases herself etc, but doesn't pretend to be 21.

MamaLazarou · 09/02/2015 22:29

Never mind the arse, those tits look like over-proved bread dough. No need!

Rihanna's dress looks like it is wearing her.

MaryWestmacott · 09/02/2015 22:30

Queenbrun - it's not a straight choice between the two, did you see what 50-something jullianne Moore wore to the baftas? Can't link as on phone, but bright red, plunging to navel dress, boobs a plenty, yet still looked classy and glamorous - and like she was showing her body because she's proud of it, Madge just looked a bit too attention seeking and needy.

dexter73 · 09/02/2015 22:33

I would be a little bit sad if Madge decided to stop wearing her bonkers outfits and flashing her boobs and bum at awards ceremonies though.

noddyholder · 09/02/2015 22:36

It all depends how much you value the idea of ageing gracefully and whether you consider it some sort if virtue.

ladybird69 · 09/02/2015 22:45

It reminded me of Bridget Jones where she was told it was fancy dress but everyone else was in their Sunday best! Looks like Madge got the wrong email to me!

Sunny67 · 09/02/2015 22:47

..... Because she can??

noddyholder · 09/02/2015 22:50

She was performing her new song and that is the costume from the video so not that odd

Suzannewithaplan · 09/02/2015 22:58

I don't think she looks eerie, she just looks like Madonna, obviously there have been cosmetic enhancements to mitigate signs of aging, so what?
yes Vivienne W has taken a different route but I cant see any justification to label one good and the other bad.

If you're not a fan of the unnaturally smooth face at 56 look then stay away from botox and fillers etc.

As for attention seeking, isnt that the defining feature of all these celebs/performers etc

Floisme · 09/02/2015 23:03

I think it depends what you think fashion is for. For some people, it's just about looking good. Well fair enough but I think Madonna's always seen it as a way of having a laugh (pointy bras) or getting under people's skin (crucifixes as jewelry). Judging by this thread, she's not lost her touch.

MaryWestmacott · 10/02/2015 06:45

Floisme - but she has lost her touch in that she used to set trends, or take what was marginal and put it in the mainstream. This was rather tacky fancy dress, but also abit samey.

Floisme · 10/02/2015 06:52

Well I would say she hasn't lost her touch because look, here we are, still talking about her!

davejudgement · 10/02/2015 07:03

here you go, you too could make your own mesh dress...

TheChickenSituation · 10/02/2015 07:13

She was the original out-to-shock, 'sex sells' pop star.

She started what we all see as normal/banal now. Pretty much all female pop stars are basically a rip-off of her. With the exception of, umm ... Lorde...? ... everyone else has just copied Madonna. Miley is the most pitiful of the lot - I mean come on, Madonna was doing it better 30 years ago.

Not saying I admire it, but fair play to her for keeping on. She's still garnering publicity, so it's working.

Silverjohnleggedit · 10/02/2015 07:18

I was expecting her to look much worse. She looks amazing, good plastics, amazing figure, jaw dropping outfit - she really is every inch the attention grabbing star...good for her!

bleedingheart · 10/02/2015 07:41

She's been hoisted by her own leotard.

I love this ^, Squoosh.

I like the matador hat Blush

MadderPink · 10/02/2015 08:06

I see what you mean about Vivienne Westwood - she always looks amazing and like she is saying "OK old age come and get me I don't give a fuck" whereas Madonna looks like she'd do anything to not look a day over 30. I defend both of them's right to do what they want with their body but for me VW's attitude is more inspiring. She "sticks two fingers up" to getting older, Madonna looks like she's running scared from it.

Floisme · 10/02/2015 08:29

I also prefer Vivienne Westwood's style. But Madonna is still brilliant at winding people up (as this thread proves) and I do love her for that.

Eliza22 · 10/02/2015 13:38

Ms Westwood is a one-off in the best sense. Madonna clings to something unachievable. What I don't understand is why on earth she wants to go THAT far. Her ass is in a sling and it's not a good look on your average 20 year old, never mind mid50's. I'm not saying she should go all twinset and pearls and sensible shoes just....some class and STOO trying so hard, IMO.

AgathaF · 10/02/2015 17:08

The bra bit of her ghastly outfit looks bloody painful. Bet she couldn't wait to go home after and get her jammas on Grin.

Suzannewithaplan · 10/02/2015 17:42

I think the real problem with celebs with smooth faces and firm jawlines into their 50's and 60's is that it raises the bar and makes the rest of us look old by comparison.

I'd much prefer not to have jowls and a saggy neck when I get to 56 but unless I can come up with the money for regular treatments and probably some surgical intervention that will doubtless be my fate :(

Floisme · 10/02/2015 17:59

I admit I would prefer it if Madonna dressed like she does and also looked her age. That would be awesome.

noddyholder · 10/02/2015 18:02

I have some friends in their mid 50s and they do look as good tbh but it takes a LOT of effort. I am finding now at 49 that everything takes a lot longer and god knows what it will be like in 7 more years. But its who she is Some people aren't bothered and some people cling on to the bitter end Grin it is not somehow morally superior to be one or the other.
