how to avoid 'Mum boots'?

Hoping to buy some brown leather ankle boots to wear with jeans.

Very wary of so-called 'Mum boots'. What are they and how do I avoid? Post pics please to help me.

It's just all personal taste. I hate Fly, irregular choice etc. For me they are frumpy, but I love heeled black boots.

Behooven · 25/01/2015 10:23

I'm afraid I've been MUMSY and middle aged since I was 19.

Sorry but can't abide shuffling tatty Uggs or chunky bikers. As Primal said it's personal taste, I wear what I like but it's not nice to use put-downs on other women.

LagartijaNick · 25/01/2015 10:35

Mumboot schmumboot. Wear what you like. I love Fly boots just as much as Sistema storage containers. They make my enormous feet look smaller. The boots, not the containers. Mumjeans, however, are the work of the devil. A blind devil.

I'm also an irregular choice / fly fan - like rocket dog style but they never last and quality is poor.

I agree that Rocket Dogs don't last but I've got four pairs of Fly boots (and some sandals) that I've had for years now and wear all the time. I find the quality good and they do last well here ;)

LegartijaNick what are mum jeans please?

I love a lot of the Mum boots posted here. If that makes me Mumsy so be it!

LagartijaNick · 25/01/2015 10:45

Mumboots are currently on display in Topshop. They are not too tight and have a highish waist. Think teenager late 80s/90s. Even if you're flat of stomach, they give you a decent tummy.

LagartijaNick · 25/01/2015 10:46

Argh mumjeans, not boots.

LagartijaNick · 25/01/2015 10:46

Oh dear, sleepy brain, they are actually MOM jeans.

Valsoldknickers · 25/01/2015 11:27

I promise I wasn't being a pedant! Mum/Mom makes no difference to me Smile

theDudesmummy · 25/01/2015 12:29

I am a mum, I wear these to work every day with plain black trousers (straight leg) and on weekend with black jeans. I have no idea if they are mum boots but I like them.

These are lovely and feel great on ecco-shoes.co.uk/product/Clearance-Ladies-sale-shoes-Gore-tex-Ankle-Boots-Saunter-I-Cocoa-Brown
Waterproof too!

AgentCooper · 25/01/2015 17:52

I love my Mom jeans from New Look. I'm an hourglass and they're v flattering.

Mum jeans, OTOH, I would say were sensible bootlegs that are a bit too short, maybe with embroidery on them.

herecomesthsun · 26/01/2015 11:59

got the Toast boots today, whoah they are...toasty. Am thinking I might keep them as very rugged house slippers, they are so comfy in our rather chilly house!

Dancergirl · 26/01/2015 13:51

Still tempted to get the Timberland ones! Has anyone else got them?

merguez have you decided on any yet??

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/01/2015 13:56

Nooooooooo - I would be v, v jealous if you do! :)

Merguez · 26/01/2015 19:30

Dancergirl - I have seen some nice ones in Jigsaw, but can't decide between 2 styles:

oops first link failed:

cara

Dancergirl · 26/01/2015 21:14

They are both nice, love the first ones Cara. They are probably too high for me to wear everyday but you might be ok with that height!

Dancergirl · 26/01/2015 21:26

Wonder how comfortable the Timberland ones are...? The sole doesn't look too flexible so not sure how they are to walk in.

Bodicea · 26/01/2015 22:15

Most of the boots in tk max are a bit mum booty.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/01/2015 15:05

I like those brown Jigsaw ones.
