how to avoid 'Mum boots'?

Hoping to buy some brown leather ankle boots to wear with jeans.

Very wary of so-called 'Mum boots'. What are they and how do I avoid? Post pics please to help me.

Pass - I have the Dune boots on your first link. I use them for work. I also avoid M&S, next etc.

The Miss KG ones are plastic. Personally, I wouldn't buy synthetic boots - only leather.

I think KG stuff generally leather but Miss KG stuff often not - v sneaky.

skinnyamericano · 24/01/2015 16:44

Mint Velvet I think anything from here is fine, but quite £££.

Ash boots lovely, but again £££.

Next I live in a variation on these and don't think they are Mum boots (really hope not!!)

passthewineplz · 24/01/2015 16:45

If I'm honest I tend to just wear uggs during the day, if I'm going out on a night out I high wear healed ankle boots or strappy sandles, as I'm a short arse and like to feel dressed up.

Sunny the dune boots are just sat in my wardrobe at the mo. Do you reckon they're suitable for a uni interview with a dress or smart trousers? I've only got high healed shoes/boots and thoes black dune ones, oh and some really flat shoes but don't think they're appropriate

WipsGlitter · 24/01/2015 16:48

I think mum boots are leather, mid heel, above the ankle worn with jeans that are a wee bit too short. And a fleece.

skinnyamericano · 24/01/2015 16:48

Love these too!

Cocolepew · 24/01/2015 16:49

There's no such thing . If you like something , feel good, feel comfortable in it, in it then that's all that matters.
Everyone has their own personal style and it matters not a jot to anyone else.
We're all adults, nobody goes around pointing and laughing .

RustyBear · 24/01/2015 16:58

I have these pikolinos- don't care if they are mum boots, they are the most comfortable boots I have ever had. And if they make me look 50, that's a bonus, as I'm 58....

Once we're all back in flares, we'll probably be wearing mum boots again too. Bring it on

Merguez · 24/01/2015 17:06

Hmmm… I am thinking it is important that the boots should be quite short above the ankle, to avoid the Mum tag?
Don't really know what to wear with skinny jeans ...

Have I missed it or has anyone linked to these?

I know fly is also a love it or hate it brand!

passthewineplz · 24/01/2015 17:16

Think it's the heal that can make them look a bit mumsy. the ones I hate with a passion are the ones with no toes. Really don't get those they're plain ugly

addictedtosugar · 24/01/2015 17:16

how bad do the fashionista rate these clarks boots?

passthewineplz · 24/01/2015 17:25

I like the style but they don't suit me, I need a heal as I'm short

CiderwithBuda · 24/01/2015 17:32

Addictedtosugar - I really like those.

Am not a fashionista though!

I really should stay off these threads - always end up buying something and am on a no spend January.

Behooven · 24/01/2015 17:37

rusty I've got a pair of black Pikolino's and I love them too.

I hate the 'mumsy' label, it's so derogatory.
