More crepey wisdom.....

OP posts:
motherinferior · 15/01/2015 09:06

Definitely have hangover. Bugger.

I really am considering HRT. DP not keen but it's not his body.

Rosebag · 15/01/2015 09:34

MI does dp know that all the panic over the research that made lots of women fear HRT and Gps refuse to prescribe it has been shot down. Have a look at The Menopause Matters website. It's very balanced. I would have ended it all without HRT. I've went through the menopause at 41.

Hatty I'm watching both! Oh the wonders of iplayer. Agree...silent witness is Ab Fab.

motherinferior · 15/01/2015 09:35

He doesn't need evidence, Rose. E is a Man!

Rosebag · 15/01/2015 09:39

Ha! MI your body, your choice Grin

NUFC69 · 15/01/2015 10:09

HRT made absolutely no difference to me, MI - just saying, but I hope it does for you if you decide to go that way. Sorry that you are having such a hard time: be kind to yourself.

Hatty, good luck with the gynaecological later. What happened about DD's tests, by the way?

Glad to hear that you have sorted out your transport for skiing, BTM.

Late start for us today - the wine didn't stop me sleeping. Am cross with DH as I have just had to re-wash half of the stuff in the dishwasher - why did I leave the loading of it to him last night?

Admin work for my charity today, but absolutely no cooking as there are lots of bits left from last night. Grin

Auriga · 15/01/2015 10:15

MI it sounds awful. A few months of HRT could really help, then you could gently wean yourself when circumstances are better. That's what I did.

motherinferior · 15/01/2015 11:08

I have had a small nap and found my vest Grin and ironed out some Dropbox stuff which makes me feel frightfully competent as my default is to ask Mr Inferior and I'm trying to improve in this regard. If the sleeping issue is still the same in the week I'm making a GP appointment. Do nag me.

bigTillyMint · 15/01/2015 11:11

I too am an HRTer. It has made life bearable.

I know lots of people manage with herbal/other stuff. I did try some, but it didn't seem to work for me. We are all different and we have to do whatever works for us.

Rose/Hatty, DH was watching Silent Witness, much to DS's dismay - DS said DH "needed help" if that was the kind of programme he liked watchingGrin

motherinferior · 15/01/2015 11:23

I suspect that such herbal stuff that does have an effect is quite dodgy, actually; it's a chemical action, and one that hasn't been investigated enough.

QueenQueenie · 15/01/2015 11:26

I take sage tablets for the hot flushes / broken thermostat issues and it does seem to help...
I agree with your reasoning MI but I think a bit of sage sounds pretty harmless.. so following my own reasoning is probably an expensive placebo!

wilbur · 15/01/2015 12:35

MI - you could look at this woman's research. I went for peri and PMT issues a few years back and it worked v well. Expensive though (maybe DP woudl pay Grin), so I can't afford it right now, but would def go back to her if I start getting bad meno symptoms.

Absolutely knackered today, can barely keep my eyes open - out late and tehn the storm was in full swing when I came home so I couldn't get to sleep. Lovely silver birch opposite the end of our drive came down in it as well Sad. Took ds1 with me to opening night last night and he was unrousable this morning (probably weighed down with the number of mini-burgers and fishcakes he managed to snarf from the canape waiters).

Staggering towards the sofa tonight, but still no Wine.

Rosebag · 15/01/2015 13:09

I guess there's no 'one size fits all' silver bullet for hot flushes and the other joys of the menopause. I certainly know women like NU for whom HRT was useless or made them feel worse. I had to try a few different types before I felt better and the effects weren't immediate. I now have the no- bleed variety which is great but perhaps not quite as effective. Who knows?

Tilly DS was the same…said Silent Witness was sick (and not in a good way)….presumably he meant I was sick for watching it…. but he did concede that the theme tune was amazing…. Grin

hattymattie · 15/01/2015 14:25

Well ladies - the gynae says I'm officially menopausal and stroppy. He wants to take out my Mirena but as I have not had the floods associated with menopause I want to keep it in just in case. He's given me six months and then I can have HRT. Honestly he is a very kind man but I had to stand entirely naked in front of him whilst he felt my boobs - only in France!

NU - thanks for asking about DD - we found an excellent cardiologist who gave her an echo cardiogram - so we know her heart is OK. We didn't have time for all the brain scans and the heart test whilst running but the neurologist seemed think it wasn't a fit which was the worry. She saw her GP in the UK who has also done blood tests but said basically she is fainted due to low blood pressure and heavy periods! Makes the French approach seem overkill - I wouldn't have worried so much if it wasn't for the twitching limbs. At least she's been thoroughly checked out.

lalsy · 15/01/2015 14:38

Grin and being officially stroppy - did the test for this involve a Brabantia?

I am glad about dd.

MI, I agree about the herbals - it is scary.

motherinferior · 15/01/2015 15:01

PMSL@Brabantia.

You are all very kind.

I am pootling not very productively through a small amount of work. Though miffed that the rearrangement of trains at London Bridge means I won't be able to zip up to choir with my usual ease.

I am however proud to report that I produced the Lazybugger Butternut Squash Soup for a couple of friends who dropped round for lunch yesterday and they loved it. That spice mix is terrific. Will lay hands on packets for any Crepeys who require it.

hattymattie · 15/01/2015 15:18

GrinLalsy - although I've had a brabantia for yearsBlush(unkicked and pristine).

So - to console myself for being menopausal I went looking for a handbag in the sales but of course the one a stumbled upon is full price (Michael Kors). I do have some money from DH for Christmas so I might just go for it instead of compromising as I always do.

bigTillyMint · 15/01/2015 15:30

HattyShock at having to stand naked in front of the doctor while he felt your boobs!!!
Why have you got to wait 6 months?

Glad to hear your DD is OK. Is she taking iron tablets? I can recommend Easy Iron from our local Health Store - loads better than the ferrous sulphate or whatever that makes you constipated!

MI, LB is an absolute messAngry The soup sounds interesting - where do you get the spice from?

I have to take DD to a sixth form interview tonight...

motherinferior · 15/01/2015 15:53

I can pick up a packet at the local Asian shop. For anyone who wants, yet!

Auriga · 15/01/2015 15:58

MI I have an Indian shop almost next door. What's the mix called?

Stropperella · 15/01/2015 16:03

Am a bit WTF?? at having to stand bare-nekkid and have your boobs felt, Hatty. What was the dr looking for? Cannot imagine any doc in the UK asking you to do that. My GP requests a chaperone if I have to so much as undo a top button. Grin Don't suppose I've been looked at in altogether by any medical professionals since I was about 1. I muttered something to my GP last year about the possibility of a blood test to see how my hormone levels were/are, just as a matter of interest and he looked at me as though I was a bit barking and said, "Those blood tests aren't standard procedure, you know."
Am Blush at the Brabantia test. Blimey, that was money I should not have wasted.
We are having tuna pasta salad tonight as that is what ds has made in food tech. I will re-jig his efforts slightly.
Am Angry (again) with dd's school. She was turfed off an A level chemistry trip to Southampton Uni today because some IDIOT had not checked the minibus beforehand and noticed that one of the seats had been removed. As she was the last to turn up (but on time!!) at the bus, they told her she had been selected as the unlucky one who couldn't go. She was furious and upset as she had been the second person to hand in her form and money for the trip and really wanted to go. She came home, I rang the school and they told me the pathetic story. I thought she would not go back in, but after she had seen me rage and swear about it (not at the school, I hasten to add, just in the privacy of my own home), she felt better and went back to school. I rather hope she rages at them. They deserve it.

Stropperella · 15/01/2015 16:10

Belated congrats to Herbs on finished the mammoth assignment. I'm intrigued to know exactly what was in it. I would quite like to come to the presentation. Grin
I am feeling chipper as I had a positive session with my 2 groups of Reception readers this morning and seem to have overcome some stumbling blocks that I was having. I don't have the same pupils every week, so go in cold every time, but I think my strategies are getting better.

Stropperella · 15/01/2015 16:10

Bah - "finishing", obvs.

Blackduck · 15/01/2015 16:21

Yes spice mix MI?

Hatty Shock at total nudity! Nearest I have got is the mamogram.....

motherinferior · 15/01/2015 16:30

It's called 'panchphoran' (ie five spices - panch is Hindi and possibly Bengali for five); or you can mix your own from:

cumin seed
black onion/nigella/kalonji seed
fennel seed
black mustard seed
fenugreek seed

Is also v nice with aubergines and tomatoes.

bigTillyMint · 15/01/2015 16:40

Stropps, that's rubbish about your DD's tripAngry
But good that she went back in and re the reception reading.

I have just realised that I have been taking less BP tablets than I should (doc changed the way the prescription was given) but thankfully only for about 10 days.
