Leather leggings

Having worn my faux leather leggings a lot more than I thought I would I want to invest in a real pair as a Christmas present from DH. has anyone got any recommendations? I've found a couple of pairs from Reiss, Jigsaw and Iris and Ink all of which are similar price, but none have any reviews online. Ideally I'm after a fairly long fitting pair as I'm quite tall. Thanks in advance

Honestly I don't know how you can all say they don't bag - I have 3 pairs, the Baukjen Liv leggings, some midnight blue Theory ones and a pair of BLK Denim leather jeans (not strictly speaking a legging I suppose as are proper 5 pocket jeans with fly). All 3 pairs are, now that I've worn them all a number of times, quite a bit baggier than they were on first purchase, especially at the knees. The Baukjen ones are probably the baggiest but also the most worn I suppose.
I'm also too nervous to try the tumble dryer method on them - I think Joanna from Poppy's style said she had done it with hers and it was ok but......
in any event though it was my understanding that the tumble-dryer thing was more to refresh the shape and ping them back after they'd bagged rather than actual cleaning.

FrugalFashionista · 22/12/2014 16:37

Esher what do you wear with the midnight blue pair?

eshermummy · 22/12/2014 16:51

Frugal - I tend to wear same as with the black pairs really - long silk shirts in grey or blush pink for evening and sweaters in grey or camel for day. if I'm honest I tend to wear the black Baukjen ones more as I prefer black even though the Theory ones are a better fit/nicer cut. I'm also not wild about showing my bum in the leggings style ones, plus the Baukjen ones have an elasticated waistband which is a bit ugly if visible so I tend to wear longer line things with those. With the BLK jeans I don't mind wearing a short top as they have proper belt loops - which is a good thing as I need to belt them now - I really should have got them a size smaller than I did. If I buy another pair (tempted by the HL you are all raving about) I'd actually buy them smaller than is actually comfortable at first as they def stretch.

Thanks Esher and also thank you so much for the warning. I'm tempted but googled a bit and found thread. It sounds like people use hot air to deal with the sagging but I guess this is a housekeeping headache I'd rather not have. I think I'll spend this season in pleather Wink

FrugalFashionista · 22/12/2014 17:10

Sorry broken link - here it is.

maybemyrtle · 22/12/2014 18:50

esher thank you, that's really helpful - the stretching is exactly why I'm dithering. I know you said you'd size down next time, but with the pairs you have already are you still happy with how they fit?

maybemyrtle · 22/12/2014 19:00

Thanks for that link frugal - food for thought, for sure

eshermummy · 22/12/2014 19:41

It does also depend on how tight/what sort of look you are going for.
I know Frugal said she didn't want the Marisa Webb "poured into them" look - or as quite nicely put on that last link the "legs of liquorice" (!!) look but I personally do and none of my 3 pairs has that skintight look I'm after (old slapper that I am !)
It hasn't helped that I've lost a little bit of weight since buying them which has made them a bit looser too.
I can still wear all 3 pairs but I would like to get a pair that stay as tight on as the very first day you try them on - it's a bit like jeans only being really tight and sculpting when you first get them out of the wash.
I'm sure body type plays a part too - I'm petite but curvy so I wasn't sure I could squeeze myself into the next size down - it's only now with hindsight that I can see I probably could have and they'd have given enough over time to be fine.
Also the ones that have bagged the most are my Baukjen ones - which were and still are amazingly soft but maybe a thicker, slightly tougher leather is better - people say the HL ones are quite thick.

Kapoww · 22/12/2014 19:49

FYI - Flannels sale has Joseph ones for £375.

Karbea · 22/12/2014 20:46

I would love a pair, but really don't know which ones to get :( I also want a nice black blazer :( broken record

GermanHouseCat · 22/12/2014 21:03

Does anyone on the bigger side wear leather leggings? I am a very curvy size 14-16 on bottom (size 12 on top) and like the idea of LLs but struggle sometimes with bottoms as things that fit on bottom gape on the waist!

Anyone with a similar shape? I'm 5"7

Karbea · 22/12/2014 21:06

No I'm petite 5ft size 8... But then I don't have any anyway :/

AmberNectarine · 23/12/2014 14:51

German, well I'm short and an 8, but I am curvy. Mine are a little looser at the waist than on hips and thighs but I think/hope they look good!

Karbea · 23/12/2014 20:24

ambernevtarine can you share a link of the ones you've got?

Sunmakesmesmile · 23/12/2014 22:55

Well both the baukjen Liv leggings and the helmut lang pairs arrived today, and as much as I was hoping the baukjen would be great, they were really disappointing. They are too short, not necessarily a problem for others but they are also quite wide at the bottom so overall not a great fit on me.

The HL are beautiful, I can see why they get a lot of love. I have ordered a smaller size to try as I think the pair I have are slightly too big, should have taken the advice on sizing down. They are incredibly long - Amber have you taken yours up? And the fit on the waist is really flattering. As said by a previous poster the baukjen have an elastic waist which bunches up and I would need to cover.

Still a bit nervous about the whole tumble dryer thing, but will cross that bridge as and when.

Karbea- these are the HL I have, I think these are the same as Ambers

amber/foxy I am so pleased with my HLs so thank you for recommendations. Have either of you washed/cleaned/tumble dried yours yet?

OP posts:
AmberNectarine · 05/01/2015 21:14

I have not - have given them a once over with some baby wipes when they got something spilt on them but dont have a tumble drier, so will have to take them to the dry cleaner.

ZammoMcGuire · 05/01/2015 21:16

you spent FOUR HUNDRED POUNDS on a pair of trousers?! Shock

fricken nora

TheBuskersDog · 05/01/2015 21:40

Zammo Where are you getting £400 from, the net-a-porter link is for a £745 pair! Grin

cardamomginger · 05/01/2015 21:42

Zammo, there are many on this thread who would kill for the chance of £400 leather leggings Wink.

AmberNectarine · 05/01/2015 22:09

It's an investment.

frankietwospots · 05/01/2015 22:50

...and by the sounds of it, you've worn them every day since you got them, so cost per wear...

MrsGolightly · 05/01/2015 22:55

I too second the Theory ones - I got them in navy. I also bought Whistles leather trousers (more biker style) in the sales in black - great fit.

MrsGolightly · 05/01/2015 23:08

by the way what's the tumble dry thing?

angeltulips · 06/01/2015 00:33

I bought Vince ones ( technically jeans but more like leggings) from the outnet a couple of months ago and they are GREAT
