Pandering to the uncouth... Grin

OP posts:
herbaceous · 17/12/2014 10:32

I haven't sent cards yet either. That's this evening's task. Along with getting DS to write the rest of the cards to his class. We got through ten last night, only another 17 to go. I think I shall be forging his signature in most of them...

As the last two weeks of PGCE have been a bit lighter - only one lot of teaching practice a week, rather than two, and I've taken my foot off the gas, this loss in velocity seems to have caused a plummet in enthusiasm. I think maybe I'm just knackered. Must plough on and finish my assignment before Christmas, so I don't have to worry about it over Yuletide.

MI - are you finding your silver brogues get lots of wear? I've just spotted a pair online for £19, and feel they'd be an ideal Christmas present for me!

Stropperella · 17/12/2014 10:52

Herbs, for the last few years I have encouraged ds to make a large Christmas poster for his entire class instead of writing out 30 cards. He takes it in at the beginning of Dec "Happy Christmas Class xx from ds" and tells the teacher that this is his environmentally friendly way of giving everyone in his class a Christmas greeting. He uses old Christmas cards and loads of glitter etc and has a much better time making it than he would if he had to write all the damn cards. Plus, it saves money.

I am going to have to give myself a massive kick up the arse today to get lots done, as the temptation to just slack about and pretend I haven't got an enormous list of crap to deal with is very strong.

BD, hope there's absolutely no more bad news, only good.

MI, am also hoping you will not have to wait too much longer for info and I very much hope the news when it comes will be good.

Stropperella · 17/12/2014 10:53

And Rose, good luck to your ds for the show tonight.

Blackduck · 17/12/2014 11:07

i LOVE that poster idea Stropps - I might pinch it....

motherinferior · 17/12/2014 11:39

If you mean the DMs, Herbs, YES. In fact so do my others.

Have braved post office and Argos. I really don't feel like working now.

herbaceous · 17/12/2014 11:50

I did mean the DMs MI, yes. Hmmm. Maybe I'll wait until the sales, and snap up something then. These £19 ones are synthetic, so liable to end up with trench foot.

Just remembered another annoying thing about bobble-hat lady - her son was called Dakota.

Blackduck · 17/12/2014 12:03

Isn't Dakota a girls name?

herbaceous · 17/12/2014 12:04

That's what I thought. But I'm sure she referred to 'he'. Dakota is a pretty annoying name for either sex though, TBF.

bigTillyMint · 17/12/2014 12:49

Lalsy, thanks for the ideas - we did break it down and she did learn the first half on Sunday... Ah well, we'll see.

Sorry to hear about the delay for your mum, MI - seems like par for the course from what I have heard from others.

I don't think DD has any crepey teachers, but no doubt I will see tonight.

cremolafoam · 17/12/2014 13:04

Stropps and Herbs you should be so proud of yourselves. What a terrifically positive note to end term on. Being liked is half the battle, and definitely because of being crepey and having loads of life experience.

BD I completely concur with your sign around neck. I'm a getting me one if those too.Confused

Lalsy and Hatty: I in dread of the giant personality with green hair and new found radical feminism plus she's now a vegan, bombing into our somewhat peaceful existence. I sympathise with you Hatty on the me me me thing. I am hoping that sheer exhaustion might temper dds visit. I'd love a peaceful Christmas with no major outrages, but I fear that it's not going to happen that way.
Roll on the dull, grey void of January when I can hibernate and dream of holidays in the sun. I think I hate Christmas.Sad
No cards done here either. I have a box of them and am writing them in response to ones that have arrived.
( cheeky and miserable , I know). I do prefer a Happy New Year card, but I've no motivation this year at all.

Rose , loads of luck to dd tonight!

NU you sound incredibly organised !Envy

MI - much love to you and yours. I hope the news, when it comes, is positive.

I am having a day off and am trying to catch up on things . The delivery co here have stopped delivering as they have a mahoosive backlog . I imagine anything I've ordered will now arrive after Christmas. Pah!
I have discovered I do not own a plate without a chip, so will have to purchase stand-ins to avoid parental horror .Angry
Also I seem to have no wrapping paper or more importantly any gift for DM. ( inner shrieking )Shock

cremolafoam · 17/12/2014 13:07

Oh BTM - hope it's all good tonight.
Can dd record the passage on her phone and then listen to it on a loop?

Rosebag · 17/12/2014 13:10

MI sorry to for the delay in knowing re your DM's progress. She will improve a bit after her body has recovered from the onslaught of this particular dose of chemo. I do hope there's some encouraging news once the meeting happens.

Thanks also to BD and hoping some nice stuff is around the corner.

Also wishing Crepeys DS's better. Mine has come home after the ill advised attempt to stay in school. I'm a bit cross with him…but he's now dosed up, been administered chicken soup and in bed. I will fill him full of drugs and hope he can perform tonight. Feeling Angry with him, irrationally. Bad mother alert.

ConS and I are both fluey but managed a good mornings writing between coughs. Feeling a little less upset about the whole play thing but still don't know where it's all going at the moment. I've just, in a moment of madness sent him that Fascinating Aida song as a Christmas card, that someone put on FB…was it youMrsS? It makes me grin from ear to ear… Grin Grin Grin

Right, making a shepherd pie for tonight to scoff between theatre runs, and then I have finally faced up to the truth of being a Crepey and have arranged a chiropody appointment. My feet and ankles hurt all the bloody time and I've never had a minute's problem with them til this year. Hmm

motherinferior · 17/12/2014 13:43

I am making the veggie (indeed vegan) equivalent of chicken soup, my roast garlic/roast cauli/frozen peas one. I am going to see if it can be made with frozen cauli too, which will make it truly a Storecupboard Standby and cut down the likelihood of cauliflower rotting in the back of the fridge.

Just reading about the mass tango for the Pope's birthday. I quite like the Pope and all, in liberal lefty atheist manner, but isn't the tango a bit of a sexydance option?

herbaceous · 17/12/2014 13:48

That's one for the crepey recipe book, MI.

Unsheath your tasers, crepes. Once again I am supposed to be writing an assignment, but because it is quite hard, I am prevaricating on the internet. On the plus side, it means I've done all my Christmas shopping. Except for DP's 'congratulations on your lovely beard' keyring.

MollyAir · 17/12/2014 14:05

Stropps - "Don't teach them grammar"

I wonder if YouTube could help, BTM. YouTube is often the answer, and it's their medium.

Stropps, that Xmas glittery poster idea is FANTASTIC.

Dakota, Herbs. Grin

herbaceous · 17/12/2014 14:07

Bobble hat woman reminded me of a character from a Christmas film, but I can't remember who. It might have been one of the jolly types from the Grinch. Perky nose, ponytail tied on one side, stupid hat...

MollyAir · 17/12/2014 14:16

Oh yes, The Grinch. I'm always thinking about that film.

cremolafoam · 17/12/2014 14:16

Spongebob! Molly! GrinGrinGrin

MollyAir · 17/12/2014 14:38

I had such fun with that thread, Crem. It was a blast.

lalsy · 17/12/2014 15:25

Lovely crepesters interested in crepey recipes, I have trawled through some threads of crepey past and found some (listed below). And I have read rumours of but cannot find the recipes for:

MI - fish curry
MI - roast cauli soup
NU - banana and peanut butter cake/any other cakes?
Mrs S - bean stew

I am sure there are more - my search strategy has been rather random so far..... If people would like to PM me details of these or any other tempting goodies at some point, I will collate them and arrange for interviews on breakfast TV make available. Absolutely no rush, I am posting now because I have a minute but my next minute may be some way off.

I've found recipes for: HM's orange parfait; Klops (MrsS and Rose); Mrs S poppy seed cake; Mrs S Australian crunchy; MI dal; Rose’s beef and golden syrup; Mrs S Groundnut stew; Storecupboard cake (recommended by several); MrsS stovetop red cabbage, MI chickpea curry; black forest cake (recommended by Crem); MrsS retro flapjacks. Any more for any more? All welcome - I will rack my brains for anything beyond the traditional Welsh, "It is Dec 1, time to put the sprouts on" approach.

ds has managed to celebrate the end of term by rising from the sofa, going up the stairs and falling down them. Poor dab.

hattymattie · 17/12/2014 15:30

MollyairGrin - I see you've enjoyed the hip surfer names.

Stropp's I think you need to patent your brilliant poster idea.

I have been to the last English class before Christmas and have quite a haul of chocolates from the lovely kiddies. If I eat all these I am going to be seriously fat. One little girl has been very thoughtful and got me nice Yves Rocher shower gel. She swears she chose it not her Mum.

DD1 has apologised for being so arsey and we've had a big chat so all is well for the time being. She's now gone back to her old school to have a chat with (bug) her old teachers and to speak to aspiring UK students about her experiences.

DS is home and white as a sheet - I think I need to try that chicken soup Rose. It has not stopped raining today and it feels like midnight at 3 pm.

MollyAir · 17/12/2014 16:04

Yes I agree about patenting that poster idea, Stropps.

Rosebag · 17/12/2014 17:15

Oh god…Ds isn't doing the show…too unwell. Still there are 6 left. Some compensation I suppose…. ho hum

herbaceous · 17/12/2014 17:22

Six what left, Rose?
