Are black tights a no no?

I'm going to my works Christmas party next weekend and have bought a black lacy sparkly dress which sits just above the knee. I'm a size 20 with a fine pair of rugby players legs which for obvious reasons would prefer to keep covered. Would I look frumpy in black tights?

If you've found this page in search of tights that have been tried and tested by fellow Mumsnet users, you might find our guide to the best tights useful. Hope this helps! MNHQ

I also hate fishnets with a passion. Not sure why.

NoelleHawthorne · 08/12/2014 11:24

its not the legs, its the style they are worn with. Its the look.

You can't plonk one outfit on and say I am SO fashionable Grin just because of one item.

I say that sitting in sweaty gym tights Wink

I like fishnets but only with longish skirts. I have always worn sheer with evening type dresses or skirts.

I have just googled black lace sparkly dress and almost all images were of nude/barely black sheer or no tights.

Black Micronet fishnets are ok. The other type of black fishnets are tacky looking imo.

Thanks for the replies. Don't think sheers tights will be very flattering as my legs are pretty big. My knees are awful so nudes won't look good. Was hoping you'd all say 40 denier opaques will look fab!

More unsure than when I started the thread now! Grin

I like micronets and will happily wear something like this

I've only got natural micronets but the black ones look fine.
