Give me your best bright red lipstick recommendation please - long lasting and not too glossy.......

Recent convert to lipstick after buying some Lipcote - am currently switching between Maybelline Always Plum and now got Revlon Really Red, very nice creamy texture, but matte-ish I think. Very fifties bombshell with pale eyeshadow and black eyeliner.

I like the look of Lime Crime Suedeberry upthread....Does anyone have any recommendations for a brick-y red - I am trying to match a colour that Zooey Deschanel wears in New Girl a lot, it's red but a lighter, pink brick kind of red, not found on high street so presumably is Mac or something. I did read a bit about the products her make-up artist uses on the show but not for the latest series.

niminypiminy · 29/11/2014 16:24

Bobbi Brown Old Hollywood very glamorous bright red Sali Hughes's favourite, apparently

crossparsley · 29/11/2014 18:26

I'm really pale/a difficult tone and anything too pinky looks terrible on me, and so far every single mac shade is too pinky. Revlon really red is the bluest I can wear - it's superb though, true red and can be slicked up with a clear lip gloss. If you need a decent tomato red, then dior 999 is good but quite slippy. Last - my perfect irreplaceable - is ellis faas 401. Good god it's red, but it also has a lovely finish. Good luck!

evelynj · 30/11/2014 13:26

Cross parley-you sound a bit like me, I've debated Dior 999 several times at airports but I think maybe it was not pigmented enough. Will have to try really red-never heard of ellis faas-any big uk stockists? Have you tried mac lady danger or the bourjois ones? I find I can get away with hardly any other make up if I have red lippy on.

BigPawsBrown · 30/11/2014 13:32

Impossible without seeing a pic; everyone has a different red they suit and hardly anyone suits the sort of Hollywood glamour red. I think Taylor Swift does it really well with slightly coral-ly reds and pinkish reds.

cardoon · 30/11/2014 16:23

Any thoughts what Taylors reds might be Bigpaws?

Tried Dior 999 today but too dark for me.....

Funny thing is the Dior S/A was wearing it and it looked a great colour Confused

Revlon butter lips in tutti fruti is ace, j can even wear it to work

flippinada · 30/11/2014 22:12

I really like Estee Lauder Pure Colour Envy (what a mouthful) in Fierce. Lovely brick red that looks great on my very pale skin. The texture is semi-matte.

flippinada · 30/11/2014 22:15

The EL one is quite spendy - I saved up my Advantage Points to buy it!

umiaisha · 30/11/2014 22:18

I wear a Rimmel Kate Moss one too - think it is 101 though

niminypiminy · 30/11/2014 22:23

Another fan of EL Pure Color Envy -- I have Emotional which is a warm deep red that I would never have dreamed of wearing, but was persuaded to try by an orange woman, and lo and behold, really suits me. It's a great lipstick, highly pigmented with great depth of colour, but not drying at all, and doesn't stain the lips (and your cup/glass). Easy to apply and lasts very well. Spendy, but really worth it, IMO. There are quite a few very nice reds in the range.

HappyJustToBe · 30/11/2014 22:31

MAC Ruby Woo makes my teeth look yellowy too. Found it too drying and didn't really stay put either.

I love Rimmel Provocalips in "Kiss me you fool" or similar. Really long lasting to the extent that it won't come off when taking make up off.

msfreud · 01/12/2014 11:31

Someone asked for terracotta red upthread. Bourjois Rouge Edition 05 Brun Boheme is my current favourite for that.

crossparsley · 01/12/2014 22:47

evelynj ellis faas is in Liberty in London, and some Selfridges but not sure if all of them. I bought Dior 999 when feeling flush but generally use it over Revlon Really Red for shine. The Revlon is only 7.99!

evelynj · 12/12/2014 22:18

Tried the EL today. Loved it-fierce is best for me. Added to wishlist!

RojaGato · 12/12/2014 22:24

Chanel Rouge Allure Passion

Botanicbaby · 13/12/2014 00:07

Mac Russian Red for me without a doubt.

Failing that, try Lipstick Queen. There's a red for everyone.

LoadsaBlusher · 13/12/2014 08:40

MAC Relentlessly Red is my favourite, wear it loads
Also have a few of the Rimmel Kate lipsticks - great colour but nowhere near as good on the staying power.

coffeenut · 13/12/2014 09:00

NARS Dragon Girl for me (I'm pale but suit cooler, less teeth-yellowing reds). It is amazing and stays put.

Wobniar · 13/12/2014 09:18

Besame old fashioned Hollywood style lipsticks vhlemporium.co.uk/product-category/makeup/lips/
Put it on carefully and it will stay put. Very glam packaging.

Scottishcrumpets · 13/12/2014 10:25

Boots No7 stay perfect pillarbox red, really long lasting.

flippinada · 13/12/2014 12:26

evenlynj itsn't it lovely? I haven't worn it for a few weeks and you've inspired me to put it on again :)
