Something to wear over a sleeveless dress please

Needs to be black and probably cropped. Not a blazer (live in the flipping things at work) and not a cardigan. Any ideas, please?

Thank you. Not fond of that tbh though - it's too long, I think, and it depresses me. :(

Oh dear! I think that boleros and shrugs are always frumpy but you seem to want a cool one... If you find it, let me know!! I have a dress that needs a cover up too.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/11/2014 19:00

I'm not necessarily wanting cool - just something that doesn't make me want to drown myself. Grin

You need a plain velvet cape.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/11/2014 19:11

Been there and done that - my goth days are long over, though. Grin

I wear a cream silk pussy bow blouse under my navy sleeveless velvet evening dress. It looks sort of Biba crossed with Margaret Thatcher.

Can you link to the dress you're wearing?

AlphaBravoHenryFoxtons · 25/11/2014 19:44

I've reached the age where I wish I kept my tartan boxy raw-silk jacket and contrasting raw silk skirt, circa 1982.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/11/2014 19:49

Pmsl at Biba crossed with Maggie T.
I tried it with something under it, but it really doesn't work.

The dress is this sort of shape.

Have two big glasses of wine instead of buying an unsatisfactory shrug.

Your dress will look nice, and you will won't care about arms.

You're going to end up wearing a pashmina aren't you Wink

I agree the is no stylish answer, so how about crochet

Floisme · 26/11/2014 07:18

What kind of fabric is the dress? I find the floaty, floppy fabrics are the worst cos they just accentuate all the um...flapping (sorry, I'm talking about my arms, not yours!). But if it's in something reasonably structured then my arms don't look so bad. I've still taken a vow to never buy sleeveless again.

lurkingaround · 26/11/2014 15:15

I think I'm with ReallyBadParty, wear your biker, have a couple of glasses of wine, or wait til everyone has a couple of glasses of wine, off with the biker, lovely dress, arms forgotten!

hellsbellsmelons · 26/11/2014 15:39

Bit different and cute?

Totallyfidobono · 26/11/2014 17:36

Any good?

Have we had this one already?

I love the Phase Eight one that you think looks like a bed jacket. Off to purchase Blush
after losing something similar but blush-coloured in a drunken incident at the weekend

PrimalLass · 26/11/2014 17:44

Totallyfidobono, I like the H&M one.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/11/2014 17:48

Don't like the Quiz one. Have got something v similar to the Coast/H&M ones but wear it to work, so don't fancy it for a night out.

I would wear my biker but it's too long and bulky and looks silly. :(

lurkingaround · 27/11/2014 10:51

Shame the biker is too long. It's a right old nuisance. Have you found anything yet?

On hols one evening in a busy restaurant, my LO made me lift my arms (was wearing sleeveless) and then pointed to my bingo wings, and said, with horror on her face, and in a loud, crystal clear voice:
'WHAT'S THAT HANGY THING'. Blush Hmm And there I was thinking my arms aren't too bad. Bubble nicely burst. Grin. I still wear sleeveless

hollyisalovelyname · 27/11/2014 11:40

Did you see the Next one in reality?

LeoandBoosmum · 27/11/2014 17:34

My mum's buying this to go with a black sleeveless dress (her friend got one and she loved it, nice material and worth the £15 price tag):

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/11/2014 17:40

Ooh I like that New Look one, I think. It looks a bit like Snape's cape! :) I'll try to look at a couple of them in real life tomorrow, and report back.

Oh no re the, 'Everybody look at mummy's bingo wings' thing. I haven't got flappy bits - it's not even the arms that are the problem tbh, but the fact that the dress is cut away a bit on the shoulders and I have enormous 32E norks which I really don't want to draw any attention to.

No good for me as too detailed over lace but this is v cute

Oooh

Oh, I like that fur cape, especially in the pearly pink shade! It's a bit different in a good way! Would love great with cream, navy or charcoal!
