Needs to be black and probably cropped. Not a blazer (live in the flipping things at work) and not a cardigan. Any ideas, please?

Remus if you could design something to cover your arms what would it be?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/11/2014 11:10

Tiger - I like that a lot, but fear I would look an idiot in it.

The jacket I have is a bit like this but it's too long and slouchy. Need something more fitted.

This is horribly middle-aged looking, but might work.

It's not middle aged looking if the rest of you isn't Remus. I know plenty of younger women who wear such things.

AND what's wrong with middle aged!? I'm middle aged at 42 and I'm far from twinset and pearls but I also don't flash off my upper arms. If you like that one, get it. As for the trendy folks who suggest mad capelets covered in hair or whatever....fantastic on someone of 22 but crackers on a woman over 40.

ris.fashion.telegraph.co.uk/RichImageService.svc/imagecontent/1/TMG8089872/p/8_kate_1747990a.jpg cool and over 40. I have several fluffy/beaded vintage capelet type things and looking around when I go out don't think I am too old. My son is 20 and none of his female friends would wear one!

www.harveynichols.com/99276-black-bow-embellished-cropped-jacket/ money no object

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/11/2014 11:25

I do like little sequin capelets etc, and would wear them with skinnies and a camisole. That works for me but over a dress I'd veer into Helena Bonham Carter territory at best, and crazy cat lady at worst.

And I am very much middle aged but generally do tend to dress quite 'young' I guess.

Yes I think little vintagey capes etc better with skinnies and boots etc esp if older. I am 49 and love a bit of fake fur though! I am wearing a pashmina thing today though black and grey paint spa=lash effect with a big VW pin and grey silk shirt black coated skinnies don't think it looks middle aged I hope!

Riverland · 23/11/2014 11:44

That harveynicks jacket is gorgeous.

noddyholder · 23/11/2014 11:52

I know its so cool but too £££££

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/11/2014 11:57

Would your leather biker jacket work with a fur scarf round it for added glam?

Or what about a fur wrap thing - zara have some nice ones.

I really want to see the dress now.

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/11/2014 12:00

Something like this perhaps

Although pretty pricey but lots of cheaper options in zara etc.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/11/2014 12:37

I've got a fur stole - will try that but not sure about fur and bare skin.

My leather bikers would be too warm - I'd feel silly indoors wearing an outdoor coat, and deffo wouldn't want to dance in it!

Noddy - I often wear pashmina type scarves - my objection to them is when they are draped over the shoulders with a dress, like a shawl. I think they look silly then. They look great looped around in the way you describe, but then obvs don't have shoulder/upper arm covering properties.

Mrs C - I'll DM you a pic of the dress, but I'm pretty sure you'll hate it.

I have seen the dress. It's red. Lace. You need plain top. Wool/ viscose Jersey . Any other fabric will be too much.

Tbh Id just but a dress with sleeves.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/11/2014 12:55

Oh I have dresses with sleeves, but I want to wear this dress. :)
At least I have a couple of ideas now - otherwise I'll have to be boring as hell and shove a tux-esque jacket over it.

I doubt I can help - I just wanted to say I feel your pain.

And Pah! to sleeveless dresses. I'm never buying one again.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/11/2014 14:40

Thanks, Flo. :)

Just to add: my favourite cover-up is a coat in very fine, deep plum crepe, 60s shape and 3/4 sleeves. It was from Boden but no applique or sequins in sight! Supposed to be a normal coat - so thin it's bleeding useless but kind of works as an evening coat over a knee length dress without screaming 'she hates her arms' like shrugs do.
I normally wear it till I've had a few drinks and don't care about my arms any more. Mind you, the last time I did keep it on all evening so maybe the effect's wearing off!

hollyisalovelyname · 23/11/2014 17:41

Remus I saw the following in Next today and thought of you. I can't do links but the code is
693-551
AF-964 and it was 38 euro so probably about £30.
Well worth having a look at it online.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/11/2014 17:42

Thank you. I will check out Next. Debenhams look as if they have a couple of contenders, too.

Thank you.

Well I might order the Oasis bolero that MaryWesrmacott linked to . I need some thing to go over this dress rather than the top they have put under it.
