How much do tooth braces cost?

Sorry to subject you to a photo of my four front teeth bombed houses. I'm very self concious of them and I'm booked for dentist teeth whitening but really I think I'm wasting money and I'll still be concious of how wonky they are does anyone have any idea how much it would be to straighten just those teeth? the rest are fine

I'd be surprised if you can "just straighten those teeth" without enamel shaving of some kind because to move teeth they need space to move into. also your two jaws need to function together - so for example if the effect of straightening one tooth on the upper jaw means it will collide with an out of place tooth on the lower jaw, you will need braces on upper and lower teeth.

Whether you are suitable for invisalign or need actual braces is something only an orthodontist could tell you.

I think that the starting price for invisalign is around £1,800. I'd be surprised if you can get anything done for much less than £2k but you'll need to see someone for a quote.

You'd be better off contacting an orthodontist rather than a dentist. They deal with moving teeth about, whereas a dentist is more concerned with dental health.

You don't need a dentist. You need an orthodontist.

If the dentist is private, you will just end up paying to see them in order for them to refer you to an orthodontist.

You can self-refer to an orthodontist. If you find one on the internet, make sure it is someone who is registered with the Dental Council as a specialist orthodontist (click specialist lists in the search box and then select orthodontics)

I'm 33 and had a brace fitted in June to fix wonky overlapping teeth on both the top and bottom.

My dentist said the best orthodontist to choose is always the one that the NHS uses in your area.

Mine is costing 3,000 exactly but can be paid in installments (wish I'd known that earlier, I'd have done it years ago!)

From looking at your pic, I bet they'd do the same thing they've done with me which is sort of draw the teeth forward to straighten them, then see how it looks and then decide if you need an extraction (I have just had three teeth out a couple of weeks ago), then bring the teeth back again.

Luckily my dentist email was just sat in my outbox so I've deleted it and gone online and there's 6 orthodontists in my city so I'll contact one of those

Google Inman aligner and see if it is suitable. Mine took 16 weeks and cost £1200.

Mine have cost about 3k. Do not feck with enamel etc, just do the low slog of Invisalign. I wear mine for a week 24hrs and then a month just at night then get a new one. Has taken about 2 years.

Mine have cost £2.5k - fixed brace. I have had enamel shaved off.

I had them put on 5 weeks ago. It's at my local dentist - a huge NHS dentist that everyone I know goes to. I go as a private patient, however. I hope that's ok!

It was only my front six teeth that are crooked - so a small bit shaved off, already the difference is amazing. They do push the teeth a small bit forward to get some extra space.

My daughter is just being assessed for Invisalign, had her jaw x-rayed yesterday. The cost will be about £2k (she had NHS treatment as a teen but it wasn't completely successful, for various reasons). She has a canine which needs to be moved and has been told a small amount of shaving will be required.

I had similar teeth and got Inman alighners. It took 4 months to get completely straight teeth & cost £1500 including retainers and bleaching. Would highly recommend.

£1800 for braces and whitening is the max I'd want to pay I couldn't justify any more I've getting a quote on Mon afternoon and I'll visit one more and I'll let you know how I get on

I went to a dentist who did invisalign. An orthodontist refused to give me a brace as a teenager despite really wonky bottom teeth so I wasn't keen on going down that route. Invisalign took 13 months and cost just over £3k. I can't recommend it highly enough, and being able to take the braces out for special occasions, important meetings etc was a real selling point.

Yes i'd agree to that above statement.

I have just had Fastbraces fitted, well the first bit, getting the rest done next week. I would say really shop around as orthodontist prices seem to vary wildly by thousands! Mine are costing £1500 .

I'm getting mine done on NHS for free (post pregnancy) but I did enquire about the white braces & was quoted £1500 for top row only (NI).

So I'm going for the standard train track style. Says 6/9 months should do it & I'll only be going back to work then so it works out well.

Another Invisalign fan here - just had my top teeth straightened - they looked remarkably similar to yours, OP, in terms of misalignment when I started.

I went to the orthodontist who did a fantastic job of my daughter's teeth (massive overbite) on the NHS. I went to see a local dentist first, but he only offered Invisalign and not fixed braces, and I felt he wasn't able to do a proper assessment. My orthodontist gave me options - fixed braces, top only or top and bottom etc - so I could make an informed decision.

There was some 'filing' - where they file off under a millimetre of enamel to get the teeth to fit perfectly together. I also had some little bits of cement on the front of some teeth to help the retainer move them around. They weren't noticeable at all & were removed at the end of the treatment.

I've now finished my treatment (just under 2 years) and it was worth every penny (£2800) and every week of wearing the retainer. I paid a deposit and then 18 months of instalments interest free. You take the retainers out for eating and drinking, so no fiddly brushing after meals, and they are practically invisible.

And I now feel like I can smile again

I've taken on board what you've said and I'm going to a conventional orthodontist tomorrow and I'm going to call the nhs one in the morning and arrange a consultation with them.

It'll be good to think that by seeing the nhs one I should be getting the best advice and I'm intrigued how that advice may compare to the other one

My teeth used to look like a vandalised graveyard. You'd never know now though. I had Invisalign braces for 9 months and they completely straightened them out. It cost £3000 for top and bottom, but be warned, I had to shave the sides of some of my teeth shaved down! It wasn't the most pleasant of experiences but ones that's all done you're good to go! It was worth every penny and I absolutely love my smile now!

The short term orthodontics like six month smiles and fast braces eye will almost certainly NOT be done by an orthodontist (most orthodontists think the systems are rubbish) but by a general dentist with a good lab and a bit of extra training.

That's all fine until something doesn't quite work as planned, they've got no additional skill to call upon. I'd definitely say you're doing the right think going to a proper orthodontist. I'm a general dentist btw.

My DSis bought her orthodontic treatment on Groupon for half price so maybe keep an eye on that?

I had mine done on the NHS years ago (as an adult) and my orthodontist was lovely. I had one sticking forward tooth like yours and the same tooth on the other side was set back. The orthodontist managed to fit all my teeth in straight with no shaving or extractions.

Also, an ethical dentist would never resort to selling specialist treatment on groupon. We're not talking about leg waxing here, it's a medical procedure and I would advise steering clear of anyone who
Feels the need to drum up business by that means.
