This is my great great gran's recipe. Smile

Rosebag · 06/12/2014 15:37

That sounds delish MrsS it reminds me of the red cabbage that my grandmother used to make. She was Polish.

I think so addle.... We are fb friends aren't we ( I still can't deal with the dual names thing...) if it won't play let me know. I do have it in a format I can text as well.

bigTillyMint · 06/12/2014 15:45

Mmmm, I love red cabbage - must buy some!

We have just had tree-gate. DH and I went out to buy one (see above) and found one that met both our criteria but had a fat trunk(Wink)which the man said would be easy to saw down to fit in our tree-holder.

Not when your saw-er is my DH. We now (an hour later!!!) have a tree with a wedge-shaped trunk which is precariously screwed into the holder thing.

hattymattie · 06/12/2014 17:07

BTM - that is the sort of thing that goes on in our place. I have put off tree buying until next week.

Red cabbage recipe noted Mrs S - will try with sausages on Monday.

We have a party tonight and it is cold and dark and I do not want to go outside! Also it is my turn to drive so I can't even look forward to a warming drink (except tea).

herbaceous · 06/12/2014 17:12

It has become traditional chez Herbs for DP to do the cooking on Saturday night. Tonight it is going to be braised chicken with a 'panache' of vegetables. Very Masterchef.

Jolly birthday party this afternoon, pirate-themed. As ever, DS took at least an hour to warm up, insisting that I sat with him during pass the parcel, etc, and by the end was the life and soul, and had to be dragged off the dance floor, where he was wigging out to Gangnam Style. He's going to be one of those people who doesn't even go out to a club until midnight, isn't he.

Now attempting my next PGCE assignment. Zzzzzzz.....

motherinferior · 06/12/2014 17:26

I have been to Bromley.

With DD1.

We both survived. Just. We have various Christmas presents. We stopped for pizza and prosecco (for me) which helped. I have books for my parents to take tomorrow...

In S&B news, Bromley has a branch of Kiehls! As has Waterloo station, in fact.

beachyhead · 06/12/2014 17:46

I was born in Bromley.......

I have bought the DVD of Legally Blonde to watch with the Inferiorettes. DP will lurk pretending he isn't GrinGrin

Beachy, get it checked out!

hattymattie · 06/12/2014 18:05

Beachy - if it is throbbing it may be infected - get it checked.

Menu sounds delicious.

cremolafoam · 06/12/2014 18:30

6 shows down , 3 more tonight, 5 tomorrow.
I never want to see another face-painted fairy ever again. Humbug....

bigTillyMint · 06/12/2014 18:32

Beachy, the menu sounds luvverly. The finger less so - get it checked out!

Have ferried the girls in their finery to the Gym awards in Dul Col. DS has been dropped back from paintballing and I need to get ready - DH and I are going for a drink and then meal with old friends.

bigTillyMint · 06/12/2014 18:34

Well done so far, Cremo!

MrsSchadenfreude · 06/12/2014 18:50

Rose, my family are a German/Polish/everything else mishmash on my mother's side, so probably a similar recipe.

I want pie, Beachy. Instead of cold salmon and salad on the coldest day of the year. Maybe I can make some soup to go with it and be comforting?

DD2 has gone to a party in Welwyn Garden City. DH has taken her. She was wearing a very short dress (charity shop purchase) with thick black tights and (my) black lace up boots. And a cat hat. Grin

lalsy · 06/12/2014 19:03

Late to the party...still no internet so holding laptop at window to get hotspot and may have missed things...

Stropps you are a brave and wise woman. That must have been quite a conversation, and one well worth having. Flowers

NU is your littlest dg ok?

What a lovely meet up, gabby definitely the mot juste at least for me. Thanks to MrsS.

Had a gorgeous walk and a little gentle mulled-wine fuelled Christmas shopping today, taking to sofa soon.Grin

CointreauVersial · 06/12/2014 19:06

I'm off out too! Drinkies and Nibbles with good friends of ours. I will probably volunteer to drive; having said that, DH is currently sound asleep on the bed, so I'm not sure how "lively" he's going to be.

Finger sounds "ouch". The trouble with fingers is that there's nowhere for the swelling to go. It does sound broken... wouldn't be infected, surely, unless you broke the skin?

MrsS we are a mishmash too. The Polish connection is largely on my Fathers side. My mothers family are Belgians but the great great Aunts all spoke Czech and came from somewhere in the Austro Hungarian empire which is presumably now the Czech Republic. My Polish Nana used to make incredible beetroot borscht ...although that might be Russian Confused. One of the reasons I don't have my hair up is that I suddenly look like an Eastern European immigrant...which is presumably what out first generation were...I am a Slav. Grin

Everyone's going out (wails). We are staying in boringly...DH keeps saying..."we've got some films on the hard drive"...boring, boring, boring...Today I have done laundry, supervised homework, done housework, and made meals. A brief lovely oasis at one of the groups I taught a year ago who invited me to Xmas drinks which was lovely. Then to pick up the kids at the theatre them having done a matinee, and home again to supervising homework and shouting.
ConS and I have been exchanging supportive messages and metaphorically linking arms against the evil directors.
Tomorrow what do I have to look forward to..more homework and tea at the inlaws. Meh

Rosebag · 06/12/2014 19:57

But I have ordered with my 20% discount and free delivery this and these not necessarily to be worn together.

MrsSchadenfreude · 06/12/2014 21:21

Rose, do you make Klops? Grin

Rosebag · 06/12/2014 21:43

Hahaaaaaaaaa mrsS I thought were the only people on the planet who make klops. It's a standing joke amongst our friends..... Grin

NUFC69 · 06/12/2014 21:57

Thank you all so much for asking after DGS2 - he is a little bit better today. It's such a worry, as although he is doing well generally, he still seems so small. He has been having difficulty feeding and DDiL has had to resort to a spoon as he is having difficulty latching on. I had a text from DS at 8 o'clock to say they were just going to bed.

In the midst of all this they are supposed to be moving before Christmas and it seems that it will be whilst DH and I are in Derbyshire for three days which is rather unfortunate.

I hope the finger is getting better, Beachy - I think it's like toes, though, even if it is broken it will just be strapped to the next one as they can't do much.

All the Christmas activities sound lovely - we're out for lunch again on Tuesday (with DH's cycling buddies) - it's usually good fun.

Rose, well done with your writing; it must be very encouraging. The consultant might decide to operate eventually but DH will only go ahead, I think, if he can be assured of the outcome.

Oh well, my bed is calling me.

NUFC69 · 06/12/2014 21:58

Now I want to know what Klops are?

MrsSchadenfreude · 06/12/2014 23:11

NU - klops are like huge, slightly flat meatballs. We (usually) make ours with two types of ground meat, beef and veal, chopped onions, paprika (a bit, not to overwhelm), salt and pepper, egg to bind and some matzo meal to add bulk, I guess? Fry them, eat with mashed potato and some kind of sauce (a home made tomato sauce is good) or gravy.

MrsSchadenfreude · 06/12/2014 23:12

Now I am hungry...
