Stropperella · 26/11/2014 11:37

Happy birthday, Herbs!

Sorry to hear you're feeling overwhelmed, Auriga. Christmas? Aaargh.

Rosebag · 26/11/2014 11:41

NU you've probably done the right thing. I mean how many offspring are actually going to have inheritances?…most of the dosh will go on care of elderly parents in this brave new world. Yes, do go to the GP…you might need an antibiotic or something.

Thank you Stropps on both counts. DS2 funnily enough doesn't distinguish himself in his piano grades but has developed a kind of "music life" playing with and for others. He tells me (although he's known for ages….always filters info, that boy) that he is also accompanying the school Glee Club at the moment, at the request of the Head of Music. One needs these rare moments of bragging pride amongst all the shite that is heaped upon parents. He had a HUGE downer yesterday…was awarded an E for a Spanish essay (he loathes the teacher as does the whole class) and she has scrawled all over it in red including comments like" I will not mark another essay as bad as this" and astonishingly "You are coming over as a spoilt child in your views…" he now says he needs a Spanish tutor and won't continue it through to A2 Confused Hmm Angry Ah well. Your new course Bestie sounds like fun! There's nothing like giggling from the back benches….

Tilly I stuck with my old GP practice for god knows how long. One doesn't think there are choices. Our new practice is like a breath of fresh air. We sometimes even get smiled at…and even better, get treated!! Grin

Happy Birthday Herbs!!!!!!! Wine Cake

bigTillyMint · 26/11/2014 11:45

Sorry to hear you're not feeling so good Auriga. But it's reassuring to hear others detention woes!

I am going along to a different practice this afternoon to register myself and the DC. DH will have to sort himself out (not that he ever goes to the GP's anyway)Wink

bigTillyMint · 26/11/2014 11:48

Rose, we have stuck it out there for over 15 years. I rang the new one to enquire and someone actually answered the phoneShock! I think it will also be like a breath of fresh air. It certainly can't be any worse!

What a horrid Spanish teacher.

herbaceous · 26/11/2014 12:59

I so want DS to be musical like various crepey offspring. I've tried to sign him up for lunchtime singing club at school, but he got put off by the teacher who takes it telling him off for complaining about his eye hurting. Needless to say I have Had Words. He used to spend all his time playing CDs and singing along, but now it's all watching Power Rangers and playing 'love groups' with his cuddlies.

Today is not going to be an exciting birthday. I have to finish off my blasted reflective practice assignment, which isn't very good but I can't quite see why not, and waterproof a coat. DP is away, but I am looking forward to later when DS and I shall be sharing a Japanese takeaway. I have prosecco, DS shall have apple juice in a wine glass. We will sit at the table, with candles, and have music, like a proper dinner party. It's his first takeaway that isn't pizza, and he's very excited. This was my mentor's idea. She's a good stick.

Stropps - I haven't really got a bestie on my course. I tend to sit with different people each time, so as to avoid getting stuck with any of the weirdos. And have to dash off afterwards, so don't do 'coffee', etc. There are plenty of crepey types, though, with whom I commiserate about amounts of work, etc...

cremolafoam · 26/11/2014 13:21

Happy Burpday HerbsThanks
That sounds like a very civilised little dinner pardee.

Auriga, we are all allowed to have days like that. Hope you can practise some self care. Thanks To you too

I changed doctors surgery about 5 years ago NU and for me it was agree at relief . They are really really busy, but will get you in if it's deemed urgent. You get 10 minutes. After you been seen another longer appoint my is booked for you within the week if needed to reassess you.
I love the practice nurse. She even texts me to alert me to tests, results, etc I might need to follow up.

At the last place you sat on a chair from 8.00am until you could be slotted in between scheduled appointments ( that you had to wait 6 weeks to get . You could be there all day with your sick baby/ child/ granny. Admin chaos.

bigTillyMint · 26/11/2014 14:14

Aww, that sounds lovely Herbs!

Cremo, at our GPs you have to either book 3 weeks ahead or get there before 8 and wait in line for a day apt with a crap agency doctor. If at all.

Blackduck · 26/11/2014 14:28

Just dropping by to say happy birthday Herbs

and AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH darned computer ate my revised draft of a report that is currently killing me (not helped by crappy comments like 'gosh really?!' - well that's helpful and 'why are you talking about xxx here, shouldn't it by yyy'? erm I refer you to the heading which is 'Details of xxx'......

herbaceous · 26/11/2014 15:02

AGGGHHHHHH coming right back atcha, BD, re this essay. It's really not very good. I'm hoping it's 'good enough'. I have to describe various teaching cock-ups, using some model of critical reflection, then drag in a theory to explain each cock-up. So I either have to trawl around trying to find a theory that supports why I, for example, can't remember anyone's names, or find a nice simple theory and make up a cock-up to go with it.

lalsy · 26/11/2014 16:06

Herbs, many happies, like the sound of your dinner party.

BTM, definitely worth changing. My GP has now introduced a telephone appointment system. You used to be able to request them, now I think they use them more routinely especially for on the day stuff. Is fab, you just sit quietly at home getting on with being ill or work or whatever, and a GP calls you. Lots can be dealt with over the phone, and if you do need an appointment you get one, pronto. There are lots of effective ways of managing appointments (mine did it well before telephone appointments too, you could always be seen on the day by someone if needed) - if surgeries are making sick people queue up, they are not trying [bangs gavel].

bigTillyMint · 26/11/2014 16:39

Have been in and I have an initial appointment in 2 weeksSmile
The receptionist grilled me was very friendly about why I was leaving the old one. Apparently patients are leaving in droves and going to them. She is now worried about what might happen to their practice, which is worrying.

cremolafoam · 26/11/2014 16:56

Didn't get the job.
The hr woman who phoned didn't even helpfully say ' you were really close' or ' we liked your presentation'
Just, you weren't successful. Thanks. Bye .
Fuck it.

bigTillyMint · 26/11/2014 17:08

Oh CremoSad
Will you be able to get feedback at a later date?
It's their loss, of course.

Time forWine

herbaceous · 26/11/2014 17:24

Big dog's cock, Cremo. Their loss indeed. If they weren't impressed by your general greatness, then you wouldn't have been happy working there. That's what I always reckon!

Japanese food ordered. Now I have to wrap an unwanted toy multiple times to play pass the parcel as part of my birthday party. Apparently.

Blackduck · 26/11/2014 17:30

Ahh herbs bless! I hope you are going to rig it so you, the birthday girl, unwrap the last layer....

Cremo - bummer....

I'm off to the GP Friday but now feel like a fraud as I'm not as knackered as I was....

Rosebag · 26/11/2014 18:02

Auriga I do hope tomorrow is a better day. It's amazing how the common cold can drag you down so much. Your DD will get brownie points for turning up to the detention but I'd complain about the teachers unprofessionalism.

Herbs, DS2 didn't actually start learning piano until year 5. I used a really good book we were recommended by the music teacher at the primary school, here
There's a lot in it about how so many kids give up because they start too young and there's a whole check list assessment to determine the right instrument, as well.
Your birthday supper sounds lovely…and special for you and DS.

We have just reached that point in the year where DH and I have the same row over mine, which is in January. It goes something like this…DH, "I'd like to do something nice for your birthday" Me, "I don't want anything …" DH, "Why don't you tell me exactly what you want and I'll arrange it"
Me, "No, why can't you surprise me for once?" DH, "You don't like surprises" Me, "There's a world of difference between blindfolding me and bundling me off on a terrifying magical mystery tour…and just arranging something sweet and thoughtful…" DH, " I really want to do something nice for your birthday…yada yada yada…" Me, (exit stage left in a long suffering huff)

Soz about the job cremo They don't deserve you, the buggers.

lalsy · 26/11/2014 18:11

Crem, pah to them. They don't know a good thing when they see it.

cremolafoam · 26/11/2014 18:31

Thanks laydee z. I am trying to be gracious in defeat.

Big meeting tomorrow about budget deficits in the department , which is going to mean horrific cuts in our office. The joy keeps on coming....
I was hoping for an escape route with that new job.
BooAngry

bigTillyMint · 26/11/2014 18:46

Rose, at least your DH wants to do something nice for your birthday. Although I can't fault my DH this year!

Cremo, it's pants, but as I said earlier, it's their loss. Definitely.

hattymattie · 26/11/2014 19:06

Yes - Rose - at least your DH wants to do something for your birthday. I had big birthday this year and although we did go to Venice - he promised we'd go to choose a ring to replace my engagement one which I'd lost the diamond for. My birthday was in May and I am still waiting. Soon it will be next year and there will be no point.

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/11/2014 19:18

Rose, we have the same argument re surprises. I got a Eurostar ticket last year. Smile

Re the Crepey Christmas meet up, the restaurant have come back to say that "Ordering from the a lactate [sic] menu is not a problem. There will be minimum charge of £23 per person for food, extras will be charged separately for expensive items such a mix grill, steak or king prawns." Which seems a bit odd? But the £23 Christmas menu looks quite good value anyway. How many were there for final numbers? Was it 10 or 11 with MI?

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/11/2014 19:21

Christmas Menu

Shall I go back and say we will probably be drinking our body weight in wine, and can they remove the minimum charge? Grin

bigTillyMint · 26/11/2014 19:25

Talking of rings, I need a new stone to replace the amethyst in mine - anyone got any recommendations?

MrsS, I think it is 10 or 11 with MI. The Chrimbo menu looks good to me. And I am sure to have a couple of cocktails plus wine...Wink

herbaceous · 26/11/2014 19:45

Seasonal menu looks just dandy, Mrs S.

BTM, I'm very partial to an aquamarine stone, if the setting is nice and simple. Would that appeal?

bigTillyMint · 26/11/2014 20:13

I was hoping for someone to recommend a jeweller to do itGrin But I agree, aquamarines are lovely - I have a ring with one in. Bought in India IIRC.
