According to the Times supplement on Saturday, skinnies are now over; boyfriend jeans are the in thing.

I'm not doing boyfriends. Sticking with the skinnies.

HouseOfBamboo · 07/11/2014 14:01

Eew at most of those pics in Glamour (and an especial eww at the unnecessary comma in the headline).

That 'baggy where the willy should be' look just isn't nice.

Some of the cropped with stiletto examples just look like they are crawling along on their knees.

MrsGSR · 07/11/2014 14:06

I'm pretty sure I read in the Sunday Times Style supplement that skinnys were out at least 2 years ago. Personally I'm ignoring them and sticking to what I like and what flatters my shape :)

MarshaBrady · 07/11/2014 14:08

They look pretty bad in that Glamour link. Even Helena.

Not keen on that more rips than jean look.

ginnycreeper5 · 07/11/2014 14:44

the real problem is we have got used to wearing tight bottom half with a longer, looser top half. You can't wear culottes or boyfriend jeans with a baggy top that covers your bum, you'll look fat, it only works with tight fitting to the waist top half clothes, and in most of those boyfriend jeans photos, heels

Yes... if the bottom bits baggy you need a fitting top and vice versa.

The trouble is, women have become too used to the longer tops/tunics that covers the bum.

ClawHandsIfYouBelieveInFreaks · 07/11/2014 14:50

I haven't. [smug] I've been wearing a combo of both types in addition to some whatdoyoucallthem baggy cotton trousers which taper to create a cuff at the ankle during the summer.

I think I like the baggier bottoms as my upper body is one of my best features so I like tighter tops in general. I've got a small waist and "good" arms. I always felt skinnys didn't allow for that.

Floisme · 07/11/2014 14:53

But everyone said exactly the same when bootcuts were declared dead and gone: skinnies look awful.. we'll stick to what suits us blah blah blah Grin

Admittedly boyfriends are hideous.

MarshaBrady · 07/11/2014 14:54

I never do overly long tops. Looks so bad on me.

ClawHandsIfYouBelieveInFreaks · 07/11/2014 14:57

Floisme yes! They did didn't they! What's after boyfriend? Hopefully jeans will go out completely and we can all wear crinolines or something with a bit more splash than denim. Grin

MarshaBrady · 07/11/2014 14:57

But it's true my jumpers are skinnies-friendly. Usually the shape with straight sides, they wouldn't look great with boyfriends.

Floisme · 07/11/2014 15:00

After 50-odd years on this planet, I have finally come to the conclusion that jeans - of any cut - just aren't very flattering on most women Grin

Nanadookdookdook · 07/11/2014 15:02

Faded denim looks good on someone with a tan, loose white shirt with the beach and surf in the background. Here in the UK they usually do nothing for people.

cowbiscuits · 07/11/2014 15:04

It's because my 65 year old Dear Mother has started wearing them Wink

She's got no hips/arse and really thin legs and has just realised that skinny, well, narrow not super-skinny jeans suit her so much more than the mumsy bootlegs she's been wearing.

Tis the beginning of the end.

When skinny jeans first came out I swore I'd never wear them but I wear nothing else now.

What are we supposed to be wearing instead? Is it those awful 80s mum jeans with the high waist, baggy hips and tapered leg, that bunch up badly around the crotch?

ginnycreeper5 · 07/11/2014 15:18

cowsbiscuits - they do say that as soon as the oldies start wearing a fashion, the younger ones go RIGHT off it!

You are right. All the older women are wearing those hideous over-long tunic tops over skinnies.
I like tunic tops that are fitting and stop just below the bum, but those over-long shapless things look terrible - especially if you're short.

LilAnnieAmphetamine · 07/11/2014 15:34

Noddy

I hoped my mother was a one off- horrid to think she has a double Sad. Or maybe you are my sister?

A great example of what NOT to do, my mother. And come to think of it, my father wasn't that hot either.

noddyholder · 07/11/2014 15:38

I do have a sister and a feckless dad but don't 'think' its you! Grin

LilAnnieAmphetamine · 07/11/2014 15:49
Grin
ShakeYourTailFeathers · 07/11/2014 15:55

hmmm - if those very slim, beautiful women wearing jeans that cost hundreds and hundreds of dollars look that shit in them, the rest of us are buggered Grin

YY to baggy crotches... grim

rookiemater · 07/11/2014 16:01

Nooooo. It took me until about a year ago to get rid of all my boot cut jeans and find skinnyish jeans that suited my shape. I don't think i will ever adapt to boyfriend jeans, I need fitted clothing not baggy stuff or I look even bigger than I actually am.

ItsGotBellsOn · 07/11/2014 16:19

Boyfriend jeans look hideous on me and I dont wear that casual style well at all.

I think spray-on skinnies are well over...slim jeans are my thing.

noddyholder · 07/11/2014 16:32

I like boyfriend jeans rolled up with linen vest and big jumper and winkle picker boots Def don't wear skinnies as much as I used to like bootcuts with platform ankle boots and a silky shirt

ginnycreeper5 · 07/11/2014 16:36

I think spray-on skinnies are well over...slim jeans are my thing.

It's the skin-tight skinnies that make people's legs look like sausages and their feet look massive. But slim jeans are good.

Floisme · 07/11/2014 16:40

I agree, slim jeans do look good. Which is why they will never be fashionable.

noddyholder · 07/11/2014 16:41

I can't do slim jeans they just don't feel right they are what OAPs wear here

Floisme · 07/11/2014 16:42

Well I'll be an OAP before I know it so that'll do for me Grin
