Buying a chanel handbag

My husband wants to buy me a chanel 2.55 handbag for my birthday (been lusting after one for years and have the fake from bodrum lol) but Ive just seen the price :O are they the same price wherever you get them from (i understand chanel doesn't put these bags on sale)

Also is there a handbag forum here or is this the right place to post? Just need some advice on buying as Ive never bought a designer bag at that price before..

I don't have a double flap chanel bag and for the past two years, I really wanted one.

Then I bought my first wallet on a chain a few months ago...and found it super versatile. It's sooo versatile that when I saw another one (in a different colour) I bought that one two.

So now, I have one in grey and one in nude and feel like maybe I'll continue to buy the wallet on chains because 1.I can afford more of them, 2. come in lots of colours. 3.Super cute and very practical. 4.To me they are beautiful.

the wallet on chains go from purse to clutch to wallet. its just awesome. understated too.

mrsCB every time I see the reissue I think of you, Grin ,

hydepark I have the WOC in black lamb skin and I use it more often than the medium boy bag, it's very versatile, as I have small kids,

I'm totally against fakes, for all the obvious reasons, and even if they were not connected to child labour or drug trafficking, I still won't get one.

Hollyisalovelyname, couldn't agree more. Brown Thomas is a little bit of heaven on earth. I had wonderful service in Chanel & LV. All the staff are wonderful.

Please don't buy fakes people, to do so is to fund criminals , not cool.
I'd rather have a real M&S bag than a fake Chanel.

I have a single flap jumbo flap which I bought at Heathow duty free about 5 years ago. It was worth every penny but I coipent justify today's prices. Mine was £1400.

Chanel's after care is fab, I recently took it to Bond Street for a minor repair which was free of charge and it came back all beautifully wrapped and bagged. I think they offer a complete refurb (new leather, hardware) for quite a reasonable price (under £500) so you could buy a second hand bag with some damage to it and get it rebuilt.

Avoid Chanel in Harrods! I went in with a friend who wanted to spend a bonus and treat herself.
Found the staff very snooty and unhelpful. Needless to say she went elsewhere.

Also, I have to point out that the Chanel at Harrods has a very limited stock. Although you get the points for it, their limited supply makes you feel like you have to buy a different version of what you came for.

Chanel at Selfridges on the other hand has EVERYTHING and 4x the stock and can supply their constant traffic of customers...and you feel like you have a great selection to choose from.

The only downside to selfridges is that you don't get anything for the purchase. No points, nothing...

Hi- just wondering why the wallet on chain is more versatile? Surely with small kids you need to go bigger in size not smaller?

I personally wouldn't overfill my bag with loads of crap for fear of stretching it out.

I really like the Boy but when spending that amount of money I would go classic, unless you have quite the disposable income.

I agree with Swooosh - every blogger has the boy bag and I don't think it is as classic as a flap or 2.55.

So, I find (as a mother of two) that I only ever reach into my bag for three things; my phone and my bank card and my keys. I always need them straight away, so I don't have time to look through my bigger bags.

When I go out running errands myself, I take a bigger bag for my kindle, my lipstick, my bank card and my phone. I often wonder what else one is supposed to put in a bag.

I'd prefer my car to a Chanel bag though, and I love Chanel. Can't say what type it is as I'd out myself probably. There are so few of them where I live.

Shock at mrsCB ,the boy is the new classic,
One of the reasons I love it a bit more than the flap is that it can be worn cross body, and the strap is longer,it has this leather pad for the shoulder, so its comfortable to wear.
I know lots of bloggers wear them, but I hardly see anyone wearing them in RL, but of course the flap is a safe choice for a classic bag as there will always be a flap, boys ? you never know, they are very in demand now,but things can change,

mow I don't have small babies, so I don't need to carry nappies,or other baby stuff with me, I can fit most of what I need in the WOC,

I like bond street best,its quieter,and the bags section is huge.

It's the fact all the mormon bloggers seem to get get them right after selling their celines. And of course Rosie Londoner has one too.

But this is all fantasy shopping for me after getting quote for building works today - now that really was a Shock

It's the pink peonies and her sister lot. They are Mormons who seem to have huge amounts of cash and get married very young.

I got sucked into reading them and about them a while back.

You should look at Christie's, Bonhams etc as they sometimes have handbag sales. Christie's had one today so you'll be able to see what the sold prices were. It can be worth it since the bags are authenticated (and you an sue them if it turns out to be a fake) but you also have to pay buyers premium etc so take that into account beforehand
