Was a good sample sale - I bought Phillip Lim over the knee boots and Acne floral courts for £30 each.

MarshaBrady · 19/10/2014 15:39

Brilliant Amber. I was so tempted but in the end I was too comfy at home - too far across town for me. Great shopping though.

MarshaBrady · 19/10/2014 17:09

Evening all.

So.....
Shop the Gap skinny khakis are perfect, nice black berry colour and I can wear them to work. Hope they don't grow.
Santa 'Hamish Bowels'? Really Grin that sounds like a dodgy Scottish dish Grin
Amber waking up in last night's clothes?Shock way to go......Darcey's dress last night was DIVINE...I would wear that. Totally ADORED it.
Fedup sounds like a fab night.

Karbea we know eachothers' styles because we've been on here going on about what we love for AGESGrin. As well as MUs you get an idea about someone's style like that. And, I've said it before, but on here, people don't pidgeon hole you as in RL and you also get honest advice which is what I love. MNV has found me many fantastic items that I wear a lot an love.

Looking forward to SCD results, bath and Downton particularly excited about tonight's episode. Have you also heard that George Clooney is in the Christmas episodeShock

maradesbois · 19/10/2014 18:23

Karbea mu is 22/11 evening, if you want to come along please pm me your details. Same goes to anyone else on here who would like to partake in the MNV (pre)festive revelry.

Santa dh loved that apartment too but I was shuddering a bit at all the clutter. Fab photography in WoI as always, got loads of inspiration for future London pad.

Had the family over for lunch today, nice and relaxing. Like Dry am looking forward to Downton later, didn't know about George though. Very exciting!

Evening Ladies. Been a long time that I've been here, but want to just say hello and see if I could slink back here. Been away taking care of parent's epic move (moved 600 miles away from where they had been living for the past 35 years) and dealing with things for DS2. Back to talk to lovely ladies about lovely things...

I have caved into the brogue craze (yes , I am a year late) and purchased these which I have been living in.

Also, I've booked my tickets for the Alexander McQueen Exhibit at the V&A for March (could not believe they were advance selling THAT far in advance). Am really looking forward to the exhibit because I tried to see it in NY and it was sold out.

Will sit back now to catch up on things. Promise to post more!

xx

OneLittleLady · 19/10/2014 20:21

welcome back mom I was just thinking about you the other day and wondered where you'd got to!

santamarianovella · 19/10/2014 20:25

dry, I know! Grin I don't know what his parents were thinking when they named him, but the man is a living legend, he knows everything about the world of fashion, and is a serious art collector,he owns a massive couture collection, thousands of pieces! His writing is extraordinary too.
mara, yes, clutter is the word, its so unlike his paris apartment, which is more "neat" and a bit coordinated. but still it works somehow, although I don't like the idea of a European grandeur in NYC, I'm always against this concept, it works in moderation, but you always have to take into consideration your sourondings and atmosphere. ny has very interesting architecture, why disguise it and depict something its not,

Sorry for going on about ID, once I begin I can't stop Blush

Back to fashion, I've started reading this book, very interesting, light read, about "dress psychology" , the author states that every person at some point , gets a bit lost clothes wise and struggle, they lose their identity, and start not carrying about how they dress, or dress differently, and its all related to how we feel deep inside , I somehow agree with it.

Oh himominatrix! I remember you, sounds like a hectic time for you, I read that tickets are selling fast, but somehow I can't pinpoint a date I can arrange a visit to London to see it, Will be Sad if I missed it,

shopafrolic · 19/10/2014 20:35

Dry glad you like the chinos
Mom I was thinking of you the other day when I tried Russian Red on at the Mac counter. Nice to see you here again.
I thought Mr Clooney was in a charity episode of Downton, not a real one?
I feel as though I've missed loads today. We've been out and about all day, and finally bought Sonos for the house. LOVE it. I am a complete music and technical geek so it's right up my street. Wore blue chinos, grey sweatshirt and new Gazelles today with my burgundy lip colour. DH loves the new make up which is a big relief as it is quite full on!
My SIL arrives on Tuesday with my nieces. Will be nice to have some quality time with them.
Off to check back on links.

Karbea · 19/10/2014 20:43

santamaria I totally get that about clothes. I went from knowing very much who I was single/senior city job and knowing exactly what to wear and what suited to me, to being married with two dogs, giving up my career and taking a part time job, all in a very short amount of time (I also moved away from all my friends and family ), so know idea who I was - I've been this for 3 years and I still don't know what to wear. Which means I've a lot of very cheap clothes because I've felt unable to commit to anything nice. But I really want to get my mojo back, although no idea where to start... But currently can't buy anything, so that makes things very easy!

Karbea · 19/10/2014 20:50

Know - no urghhh!

shopafrolic · 19/10/2014 20:53

Santa I really enjoyed reading that

shopafrolic · 19/10/2014 20:58

Amber I saw you've added the black HL dress to your wardrobe. Is it a keeper? Not see through?

Drywhiteplease · 19/10/2014 21:19

Santa I love hearing about ID , never boring.
Mominatrix welcome back beautiful lady

QueenCardigan · 19/10/2014 21:34

Hello. Welcome back mom.

Lovely day in the sunshine today. Cant believe its so warm for October.

QueenCardigan · 19/10/2014 21:39

I want some shoes like these but not with gold buckles/heels.

Mominatrix · 19/10/2014 21:59

Queen - LOVE them, and actually do like the gold with the black.

Interesting, santamaria. The period which was the most lost in terms of fashion for me was also my most miserable. It was during my registrarship in San Francisco when I was working crazy hours, and was completely geographically and culturally isolated from where I felt most home (North East Coast USA). My life was work, running, studying, then sleep. My fashion was surgical scrubs and clogs at work and a whole wardrobe of Patagonia clothes for off-duty. My style (heels, and a more dressy-up in general way of being) was completely not in synch with the environment I was in, and I was miserable. When I left to come to London, it was like I was coming up for air after being stuck 100 m under water.

That reminds me of some funny experiences I had when I first arrived in San Francisco. The cultural differences between the different areas of the US are pretty stark. I was missing New York, especially the vibrant community events which take place over the summer - particularly Street Partys. The street parties in New York are fun - like here, they close off several blocks, and there are food stalls, music stalls, trinket stalls, and just various bric-a-brac. I read in the local SF paper about a street party which was going on, and I gathered some of my fellow newly arrived East Coasters to go down to Folsom Street for this fair, which apparently was held annually. When We arrived at the Subway station, I knew something was different - everyone was dressed up. As it was close to Halloween, I simply thought that it was a street party which was also fancy dress. I thought it was pretty strange that everyone chose to wear some kind of kinky bondage-style costume, buy hey-ho, whatever suited them. When we arrived at Folsom street and came to the first booth (a spanking booth), then the first stall (selling all kinds of whips and strange strap on devices), I knew that this was NOT the kind of street fair I was used to. Imagine a group of 4 young women dressed in fairly standard preppy smart casual outfits amongst the various leather studded chaps (with no underwear underneath!) and vinyl catsuits - we stood out. That was when it really hit home that I was not in Kansas anymore. Grin

BrandyAlexander · 20/10/2014 08:41

Morning!

Great to see you Mom!Wink

need deep breaths, I am giving a 45 minute talk today to 150 people and so far all have is Hello my name is novice and I am the blah blah at blah. Welcome to blah. that doesn't take 45 mins.Hmm maybe they will be stunned by the beauty my dress and not notice there are no other words coming out!!Grin

libertychick · 20/10/2014 09:19

Good plan Novice. Or lash on so much bling they are all temporarily blinded Grin. You will be great, have you any scripts from similar thing you have done before you can use? Or my favourite trick, give a very quick outline of your topic and ask people what their questions are about it and use 2 or 3 of them to get you started.

My excitement today is I have booked an ironing service. Trying to find ways to take elements of stress out of my life and I hate ironing. So today someone is going to call, take it all away and bring it back to me folded or on hangers. I can feel a sense of calm descending at the very thought!

libertychick · 20/10/2014 09:21

Oh and big welcome back hug to Mominatrix - any chance you can make the MU?

bettykt · 20/10/2014 09:36

Still busy and not much time to post properly but just wanted to say to Lib I've just started outsourcing my ironing and cleaning and it's shifted a massive weight of stress off my shoulders. It's the best decision I've made n a long time. I am still busy though, but that's 2 things I no longer need to worry about.

Novice I'm sure you will dazzle them in more ways than one Wink all the best for today, you'll be great I'm sure.

libertychick · 20/10/2014 09:50

Hello betty, was wondering where you have been. Yes, ironing lady has just called and even having the pile gone from the house is great.

Next step in de-stressing is more me time - so today I got up early, started work at 6am and I have a facial booked for 4pm. That way I am still back home for dinner, bed time etc

And I am way more productive early in the day...
