Dry
New carpet no way to dogs.

Party- terrible thing to do what a way to breed suspicion and resentment! I'd say no thanks

MarshaBrady · 02/11/2014 18:26

And I bet people find out somehow. On FB together?

Drywhiteplease · 02/11/2014 18:30

Tricky isn't it.

Oh, and;

  1. Next Saturday I want to wear my lovely leather skirt with my Whistles courts have removed protective plastic sole covering Grin but what will I do with my legs waits for jokes . Tights feel frumpy or shall I go bare legs ? Could sprint from the car into the house.
Drywhiteplease · 02/11/2014 18:31

Marsha they will find out! it's inevitable

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 02/11/2014 18:47

Lol at your 3rd dilemma Dry. I would wait and see what the weather was like but think I'd go bare. I did for a work Xmas do last year. Assume you're inside all night!

For 1) I would try to be assertive with them (new carpets is great excuse) and maybe offer to have dog outside as lib suggested. Easy for us to say though when they're your friends. But they are being rude insisting!

For 2) omg... I don't know. I'd first feel relieved that I was invited Blush But what I'd do would depend on lots of things, who wasn't invited, why they weren't, what the party is for, why it's being kept a secret... sorry not helpful. But agree that the safest option is to make an excuse, obviously this doesn't help all of the poor uninviteds though.

Drywhiteplease · 02/11/2014 18:51

Blair I'm hard when it comes to shoes. If they cripple me I wear them and I once wore open sandals on NYE and it was snowing!!!!!!

LinusDKD · 02/11/2014 19:02

You are hard dry! But then again, you are an honorary Northener. Wink

Re your dilemmas

  1. it is your house so no dogs if you don't want to.
  2. that is a horrible position to be in. I would invent a previous engagement like someone mentioned already and not go.

sleep did you manage to break in next door? Wink

Fedupnagging · 02/11/2014 19:43

Dry in answer to your questions:

  1. think the mn mantra ' your house, your rules' applies here. Or, if you don't wish to offend, explain about the new carpet and how it will be chaos with all your visitors blah, blah

  2. sounds a bit sneaky of management and certainly guaranteed to cause ill feeling when the secret meal becomes general knowledge as it invariably will. So, think of an excuse and decline.

  3. bare legs - you can take it!!

No word from Sleep, maybe she broke in, they returned and she is now hiding in a wardrobe until it's safe to escape......

Sleepwhenidie · 02/11/2014 20:14

ha ha! Didn't break in yet, might be forced to do so tomorrow though Hmm. Your imaginary scenario made me LOL though Fedup, reminded me of when my ex and I thought the people in the flat below had been burgled, we came in the communal front door to see their front door open. Was pretty late at night, so we thought we'd better go in and check...we ended up in their bedroom, in the dark, where they were fast asleep Shock Grin. We somehow managed to stifle hysteria and do a runner without waking them Grin

Drywhiteplease · 02/11/2014 20:22

That's funny Sleep!!!!

May have just bought This dress...despite declaring that I don't need any more going out clothes. Thanks Linus for spotting it.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 02/11/2014 21:00

Great dress, hope it's perfect Dry

Does anyone else think my-wardrobe may be in financial trouble? They have had the 15% off running all season as well as loads of other discounts, and I just noticed tonight that they've removed the "new in" button from their website. Made me wonder whether there isn't going to be any more new in.

Topazandpearl · 02/11/2014 21:04

I have seen this possibility mentioned on another thread Blair. I hope not but would be cautious about placing expensive orders just in case. Back in the summer there was a similar rumour about Atterley Road and they still seem to be going strong, so maybe that is all it is.

Great dress Dry, good spot Linus.

Karbea · 02/11/2014 21:18

I noticed the new in button had disappeared too. How strange.

santamarianovella · 02/11/2014 21:19

Welcome back blair

dry, your house ,your rules, and after all the trouble you've been through, building and renovating your house, definitely no,

Next question, is a tough one,but I think honesty works best, tell them that you don't feel comfortable going knowing that people you work with are not invited,

queen beautiful bag, hope you are having fun,

Karbea · 02/11/2014 21:19

This happened last year :

MY-WARDROBE.COM: The British online fashion retailer entered the U.K. equivalent of bankruptcy proceedings and was immediately bought by Growth Capital Acquisitions Ltd. in November.

maradesbois · 02/11/2014 21:24

Omg Blair I hope not, need my refund on duplicate pair of boots. Getting them sent back tomorrow instead of arguing over shipping costs.

Dry no way to dogs. They are being really rude insisting. Amongst dog people it's probably fine to bring your animals to each other's homes but there's no way it should be imposed on you if you don't want it. As regards your second dilemma I agree with others that its terrible management style that will breed suspicion and resentment. Doesn't sound like its going to be much fun anyway so maybe better not to go. If I was feeling brave I'd be very upfront as to why I was not attending but you have to pick your battles at work so in reality would probably be more low key about refusing.

santamarianovella · 02/11/2014 21:28

I read somewhere they are closing blair , to be honest, they have buyers with very questionable taste, it's like they only choose the unpopular pieces,

MarshaBrady · 02/11/2014 21:31

I always wondered if Matches and NaP got first choice and my-w after.

Topazandpearl · 02/11/2014 21:39

I'd agree mara on getting your boots sent back ASAP! and fingers crossed.

Even if people have dogs, it is not right to expect to bring yours. Many dogs won't tolerate others on their territory. I have accepted doggy visitors in the past but wouldn't now as one of ours would be terrified and the other would quite likely view the visitor as lunch! (She is not scary really but, as an ex-racing greyhound, has quite a high prey drive - we keep her well away from anything small and fluffy!)

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 02/11/2014 21:45

Hope your refund goes smoothly mara! Interesting santa and Marsha, I have definitely thought that about their stock for the last year or two. Didn't know about them being bought last year karbea.

Mominatrix · 02/11/2014 21:48

Evening everyone.

Happy birthday QueenC - lovely bag. Also, happy early birthday shop!

Dry - sympathy regarding mountain of laundry. I always found the doing of the laundry ok - it is the worthing and folding which does my head in. Re your ?s. 1) No dogs. I think it is quite cheeky of them to even ask. 2) my instinct is the same as liberty, fein illness. 3) go bare, if it is cold, wear a long coat.

Thanks mara for organising. I hope to make it - would rather be with you lot than watch the school play. Don't worry, DS1 not in it - it is for the upper year boys, so I wouldn't feel guilty for my failure as a stage mum.

Blair - very impressed with the novel writing. Good luck with it! i can't even write a sensible paragraph anymore.

MU, I'd wear my VB leather and lace dress, and some kind of heel. Bare leg probably with a voluminous coat.

Speaking of coats, I still can't make up my mind about the fun faux fur. Because I wear dresses quite a bit, and they are pretty much all tailored schoolgirlesque style ones, I feel like I'd look like a petite oriental version of the Gwyneth Paltrow character in the royal Tennenbaums - especially as I am living in those studded brogues. Not sure if her coat was faux fur, but the style is very much like the one she wore. Definitely not a fabulous look.

santamarianovella · 02/11/2014 21:52

I think so marsha , in my line of work, some manufacturers wont sell a certain item to more than 3 retailers in a city for various reason, cost of production is the biggest one, but in the fashion world its the other way round, big retailers force certain distribution and selling rights on some designers, NAP is a whale and probably the biggest luxury E retailer, so of course they want some exclusive items, or maybe that certain items should not be used excessively,

shopafrolic · 02/11/2014 22:01

Mom your Gwyneth in the Royal tenenbaums description made LOLOLOLOLOLOL :)
I had heard that about My Wardrobe too. If you do order, I'd suggest paying on a credit card for now perhaps? Mara I hope you get your refund processed quickly
Dry great dress for you
I tried the Whistles tube skirt today. It's going back. The shape was good but I didn't like the fabric, and the way it is made means it has no seam at the bottom so the fabric rolls unevenly as you walk. So I am now on the hunt for a thick jersey skirt that sits an inch or so above the knee.......
