Janelle

I have big norks and am going to be wearing it every day for very long walks. Opinions?

It's very practical but not very stylish. Depends where you want to wear it. For a day to day runaround, probably does the job!

hollowhallows · 07/10/2014 16:00

I have no car so do the school run and all other errands by foot and public transport. I'm wondering if the Janelle would be warm enough for long periods of time out in all weathers. I like to walk a lot and for long distances so it would have to put up with a lot. Hmm... I'm trying to decide between the Janelle and the Didriksons Tayllor.

isitsnowingyet · 07/10/2014 16:06

I've looked at the Didriksons Tayllor and have to say I like that better as it gathers in at the waist a bit

LightastheBreeze · 07/10/2014 16:10

I'm just looking at this because it looks really long, I like it but I'm trying to cut down on spending and already have a Merrell coat.

Code RED10PP will give you 10% off and free delivery.

hollowhallows · 07/10/2014 16:38

Thanks Breeze! The discount code does make it even harder though Grin

The Taylor is already stretching my budget understatement

I like the waist on the Taylor too Sundae. I'm not usually a faux fur person either but the fur on the Taylor looks so snuggly and warm...

It just started pouring down where I am, I think I will have to bite the bullet and just order one tonight. I currently look like this when dropping DD off at nursery

The Taylor does look very stylish and probably worth the money as you sound like you will wear it a lot. It doesn't look quite as long as the Janelle though which is what drew me to that coat. I'm 5ft 10 and it looks really long, a proper knee length, though hard to tell on a website.

Love the dog in the photo Smile

Arriettyborrower · 07/10/2014 16:55

Ooooo my Taylor has just been delivered, I spent hours yesterday trawling old threads here and various websites.
It is fabulous, I love it already. It's warm but lightweight, nicely fitted, hood is a great size, perfect length, brilliant pockets inside and it looks really really good.

Get the Taylor it's worth it - mine came from Black's with 15% first time buyer code so £170 from £200

hollowhallows · 07/10/2014 17:23

Whats the sizing like Arrietty? I'm on the website now but not sure if a size 14 would fit as I'm what I suppose would be a size 15. 14 is the largest they have in that style.

OP posts:
Arriettyborrower · 07/10/2014 19:11

I got a 10 which is a good fit on top but is snug on hips/bum but I think I'm prob getting well on for a 12 there....

Get it and try, can always send back!

Arriettyborrower · 07/10/2014 19:13

Snug that is with a vest and a slightly chunky jumper. The top of mine definitely gives me more room than I need.

Arriettyborrower · 07/10/2014 19:14

Arghh so what I really mean is my bottom half is prob a 12 but the 10 fits!

Laquila · 07/10/2014 19:16

I have the Taylor and it's the best money I've ever spent! It's quite warm though - it's a waterproof parka rather than a raincoat, IYKWIM. Very breathable though - I never sweat in it. I'm glad the weather's turned so I can start wearing it again!

Nel1975 · 07/10/2014 19:28

Nel1975 · 07/10/2014 19:42

Letthemtalk · 07/10/2014 19:46

Wild leaves code isn't valid?

Nel1975 · 07/10/2014 20:35

Sorry just re-read email it starts 5pm tomorrow

FelixTitling · 07/10/2014 20:45

I have the Janelle coat. It's been the best thing I ever bought. 3 years now and it looks as good as new. Keeps me warm and dry whatever the weather. I walk to school and then work everyday so it's had plenty of use.

I'm size 14 (with big norks) but have a size 12 which is a snug fit with a jumper underneath. I'm 5'4" and it comes down past my knees.

If they had it in red, I'd buy another one.

nooddsocksforme · 07/10/2014 22:36

I have never heard of Didriksons Tayllor, so googled it for a nosy and clicked on a link to Blacks-which was offering 15% discount on 1st order

hollowhallows · 07/10/2014 22:54

OK, I just ordered the Taylor from Blacks with the discount. Went with them because if its not a good fit I can go into my local branch and exchange it. Got the size 14. From what you've described Arietty it should fit me pretty well.

Will be here tomorrow evening, can't wait Grin

Thanks all!

VeryLittleGravitasIndeed · 07/10/2014 22:54

I like my Janelle coat. It's not beautiful but it doesn't look "outdoorsy" (I don't like utility zips and 50 billion pockets on my coats) and it keeps my legs dry. Also the hood stays up and it breathes so I don't get sweaty.

It looks daft when not zipped up though since it's so long. Which bothers the dog not at all when I walk him (which is what I use it for).

hollowhallows · 07/10/2014 22:56

Thanks for the codes Nel. Might still go for the Janelle so could come in handy. I'm an indecisive fecker I am Grin

Arriettyborrower · 07/10/2014 23:10

Will check back tomorrow to see how you get on with it hollowhallows I've been parading around in mine tonight!
Ds2 likes it (18 and likes to think he is hip)
I also bought a Helly Hanson raincoat in case the Taylor was too warm for warm rain, it's white.
Tried it Ds2 said - what have you come as? A forensic scientist?
Ds1 came up two minutes later and said - why do you want to look like a forensic scientist.....

It's going back.

Nashetnette · 08/10/2014 08:20

I can't believe how much time I'm fretting over which coat to plump for! I too have been looking at the janelle coat but am worried I'll look like a big lump in it. I can see what you mean when you say it might look odd not done up due to the length.
Has anyone looked at the planthunter? That's my other choice?
Help, so indecisive!
Thanks all x

RubyGoat · 08/10/2014 08:29

I just got the Northstar, love it. I'm quite short (5'2") so although it's described as mid thigh length, on me it comes to just above my knees. The hood stays up well in the wind & a few comments on the site said that about their other coats too, which I liked. I did consider the Planthunter but it would have been too long on me. Finish is good & delivery was quick, you can check tracking on their website even with the cheapest Royal Mail delivery option.

LightastheBreeze · 08/10/2014 08:53

Still looking at the Janelle especially with the 20% discount, thanks Nel1975 as I want a long coat.

Going shopping today and hope they have them in John Lewis, even if they haven't got my size I will get an idea of fit and how thick, etc it is. I wish everywhere was like Boden and M & S where I think nothing of ordering loads as its so easy to return and free (I keep all my Boden return labels Grin). If it was there I would just order and see.
