Thanks LegoC.
I know, if they had free returns I don't think I'd hesitate to order! Good luck finding one in john lewis, let us know if you get to try one on!

This weather today is making ordering one that bit more tempting!

Borka · 08/10/2014 14:29

LegoC, what's the sizing like on the Northstar? Can you fit a thick jumper under it, or is it worth sizing up?

gildedlily · 08/10/2014 14:40

I love my Janelle. It's really warm and waterproof. I'm 5'6" and a size 16 and found the 16 perfect for fitting a jumper or two under. It also has a toggle thing inside so you can create a bit more of a waist.

LightastheBreeze · 08/10/2014 15:53

They had the Janelle in John Lewis in a light bluish colour in my size, so tried on a 12 and a 14. i am 5ft 10, broad shouldered with very long arms. The 14 was the right size with room for a jumper but unfortunately the sleeves were about an inch to short and also not that roomy under the arms, and shorter than my Merrell Wakefield. The front length came to top of my knee and the back length just below, so long enough. It seemed very practical and quite warm with a fur like lining in the upper back.

I think if the sleeves had been a bit longer I would have bought one, though from the website in a darker colour with the discount. Anyone with normal length arms it would have fitted OK, I usually have to buy coats from tall retailers, because of my disproportionally long arms so was not surprised by this.

PippiL · 08/10/2014 16:22

I am also having the same problems. I have a Merrell Haven in 12 which is probably slightly too small for my behind. It is not looking flattering any more and I feel like a dumpling in it.

I'm looking at Seasalt but I'm not convinced that Janelle would be good on me because I'm only 5'5".

What is the sizing like on the Didriksons Taylor? Would I need a 12 or 14? I looked at the sizing on the Didriksons site and although it is in cms, it seems crazy small. A 14 only goes up to 36 inches on the bust (I am 38!)

I'm also tempted by the other Didriksons styles... Mary or Thelma. Any input welcome!

gointothewoods · 08/10/2014 16:34

Can I jump on here and ask a question please?
This coat is exactly what I have been looking for, as a tall person who wants something non outdoorsy looking.
Just wondering if the hood has poppers or zip?

I bought the Boden waxed parka last year and it drives me crazy - hood comes off constantly as it's put on with poppers. Plus it weighs more than me! Not very practical/ easy wearing at all.

Laquila · 08/10/2014 22:37

PippiL I'm a fairly busty 12-14 and the Taylor in a 40 is perfect for me - maybe very slightly on the roomy side but definitely doesn't swamp me.

However, I was told that they've changed their sizing in the last couple of years - I think mine is a 2013 design (the SKU is 501199, if that helps) and I've a feeling with their previous sizing, I'd have needed a 42. A very helpful lady at Nordic Kids talked me through it all.

FelixTitling · 08/10/2014 22:41

The hood has poppers gointothewoods. I never take the hood off. It is my 'terrible weather' coat so I always need the hood.

hollowhallows · 08/10/2014 23:57

Hey everyone, just a quick update. Sadly my coat didn't arrive today due to an issue with Blacks, but nothing major so should arrive tomorrow evening. I called their customer service line and they were very efficient and I'm quite impressed with them so far.

Arriety your kids sound hilarious! Sounds like you have your very own personal shoppers.

Nashetnette I can't believe it either. With all the shops stuffed with clothes, its quite hard to imagine that it would be such a fuss to find a winter coat! I really liked the Planthunter too.

I ordered the Didriksons Taylor from Blacks, it arrived this morning. I wasn't sure which size to go for as I'm a 10 top and 12 bottom, I plumped for the 38/10 in the end. The top part is very roomy (I'm a 32DD), but it is tight-ish around my bottom half. I'm going to keep it though as a 12 would be far too big up top and the excess material would be annoying, I think. I can comfortably wear a jumper underneath, not sure I'll need one though as it is so snuggly and warm. It is the most comfortable coat that I've ever owned. I love it. I am now praying for a harsh winter to justify the cost!

gointothewoods · 09/10/2014 11:48

Thanks Felix, I've ordered it as I figure it will work well for me, being a tall gal. Hope the hood will not be as easy to pull off as the Boden coat.

LoonvanBoon · 09/10/2014 12:20

Does anyone have any more info. on the Seasalt Northstar coat? Measurements listed on site are huge, but don't know how accurate they are. Also, hard to see if it's meant to be a warm Winter coat or not. 20% off until midnight so need to make my mind up.

whitewineandchocolate · 09/10/2014 17:14

Loonvan, I've got a Northstar and am pleased with it. I take a size 14 usually (next, m&s, boden etc) and I have a 14 in the Northstar which is true to size.
It has medium padding and is very windproof so fine for most of an average South East winter but probably not enough if it's freezing.

I hope that helps.

LoonvanBoon · 09/10/2014 19:33

Thanks, whitewine!

Hey everyone! I know this thread is old now, but wanted to come back and update on my coat.

So I have had a week of trying it out and I love it! Didriksons sizing once again caters to the longer limbed woman with this coat. It is VERY warm and I have been wearing no more than a t-shirt underneath, as anything heavier in the current London temperatures would be far too hot. The coat feels and looks like luxury. I did end up taking the faux fur lining off the hood as I found it obscured my vision in the rain though. But the hood is simply AMAZING! As I walk a lot in all weathers, a good hood is very important. I got to test the coat out in some serious rain over the last few days and I wasn't disappointed. The rain did manage to get through on the shoulders, but I didn't actually feel it on the inside of the coat as it didn't get right through the insulating layers. The rain was so bad on that day that the coat might as well have been in a wash cycle, but it definitely stood up to the challenge. It has a higher heat rating to my Tilde coat and even though on paper this isn't by much, I can definitely feel the difference when I wear this coat. Sizing is generous enough for a jumper underneath but I doubt a chunky jumper would fit unless you sized up by one size. It is a seriously flattering coat and I do see people eying it up when I walk down the street. I am a curvy shape and it fits in all the right places. I went in-store to try on the Mary to see which one looked nicer and if you have big hips and big boobs like me, I would say the Taylor would be a far better fit. The Mary just seemed to tent out on me and not fit my upper body very well. The Taylor cinches in on the waist beautifully. The length is good and covers my thighs well. The only thing that would make this coat a little better would be some insulated pockets on the hips that I could slide my hands into. But, the larger pockets on the hips are really a great feature as they are large enough to carry all my important bits, so I don't need to carry a bag while out with my toddler DD for quick trips. Because of the depth of the pockets, I also don't need to worry about things dropping out while I have my hands full dealing with a tantrum Blush The extra mesh pocket on the inside is also great for keeping organized and the two way zip is handy.

So that is my long and glowing review of the Taylor coat, hope it helps anyone else who is still coat hunting and thanks to all of you for helping me make up my mind; that is no easy task Grin
