Kn-October! The continuing NO Spend/ Low spend clothes challenge!!

Laska42 · 01/10/2014 21:33

Welcome to the continuing NO Spend/ Low Spend clothes challenge , where we pledge once more to KNOCK our clothes spending habits on the head! .

A huge Well Done to all who have stayed with us (especially those who have been here since August!!) . We have all made a huge difference in our clothes spending habits , learning what we need and what we dont..

We've had some brilliant support here, we have all learnt what our triggers are and we all spent less.

So, a definite success; and now it’s time to sign up and pledge to get a grip in Kn-October!!

Can we continue? .. Lets face it with the lovely weather , lots of us have had we havent even contimplated our Autumn wardrobes yet , so resisting the new seasons offerings has been easier ...

So this month we are going to get out our last year's stuff and really contemplate what we do and dont need .. Maybe we can even MAKE ££s instead of spending them by ebaying some of those purchases that sat in outr wardrobes unworn last Autumn/ winter ..

SO lets get at it again. Remember WE DONT have to buy just because THEY want us to get their 'Life style' looks

SIGN UP BELOW ..

And a big welcome to old and new S&B obsessed MNers - who just can’t stop buying it all - to join us in our quest to get a grip.

......................................................................................
So, what’s it all about?

We all LOVE new clothes, but are short on the willpower to resist, and quite frankly its getting too much ..

We have piles of clothes and shoes we've even forgotten we have, (some with the labels’ still onblush) .

But we want to get back into control and wear the lovely things we have and stop being a slave to every new catalogue, website and blog.

We want to resist the sales and offers and we want our friends and neighbours to know us better than the postmen and the local couriers !

We know they want us to buy into their new lifestyle looks , but we are stronger than them.

-Throw out your catalogues as they arrive!
-Unsubscribe to online shops!
-And let’s get creative and stay stylish without spending even more £££s and without adding to the piles of unused stuff we already have...

So here we go again...

-Some Rules-
-Either commit to No Spend or to a set budget.
-Exceptions to No Spend are tights, socks ,underwear (knickers and bras) and to replace something that has Genuinely worn out.

Lets help each other kick this habit!

We know its hard and we will have to continue to be accountable to each other ..BUT WE CAN DO IT!

So Who's in again?

I bought a gorgeous paisley patterned top
Some M&S leggings (then got home and found I already had the exact pair at home- they said chocolate but I thought they were grey. But they were the same colour as the chocolate ones I had at home (Blame my elderly eyes Blush but I really like them so I'm keeping them)
I bought a slate grey pair in Sainsburys

I fancied a pair of boots in Clarks but I didn't like the feel of them round my leg so I walked away.

DD is coveting my black Converse Hi-Tops so I think I'll be bidding farewell to them soon.

Bought some thin jumpers for A/W last month.

And I'm hoping my brand new jeans that have been hanging in the wardrobe for months will fit now (had my gallbladder out) Grin

Apatite1 · 16/10/2014 12:51

No further purchases for me. Probably because we bought a house for £££ instead and now have to renovate it. Every little helps!

katiegee · 16/10/2014 15:52

Going okay here... I had to give in a buy a couple of longer tops to see me through the next couple of months as it was just becoming indecent! £30 on 4 long length vest tops and 2 v neck jumpers from matalan... I think I can live with that. I'm currently resisting treating myself to a nice tartan scarf...

I've resisted all forms of lotions, potions and make up so far. I'm going to a body shop fundraiser for a church group I'm involved with next week, so that will be a real test of my strength. I'm telling myself I will behave and only buy christmas presents for other people!

PeachandBlack · 16/10/2014 17:39

I've bought the cami top, jumper and boots that I allowed myself in my previous post.

May have also ordered a coat and a pair of black jeans Blush. In my defence, although it is now football and cross country season, the weather is still pretty mild and my big padded coat is too heavy and cumbersome whilst my trenchcoat is too thin and doesn't have a hood (and feels too smart). I've ordered a parka style. The jeans are a trial, I don't usually wear black, so I will return them if I'm not 100%.

victoryinthekitchen · 16/10/2014 19:16

well we're half way through the month of kn-october! I've thrown away countless catalogues and avoided the mid-season sales (so far). Did order some pjs and slippers for dc from mini-boden but apart from that it's just been a coat from Matalan, only £35 as recommended on 'does my bum look 40' (surprisingly nice) and 2 jumpers and 1 perfume from Next. Trying to avoid taking cards with me when going anywhere near shops!!

Laska42 · 16/10/2014 19:35

I've thrown all my catalogues away unopened also..

Have also resisted some lovely tartan scarf/wraps.. I DO NOT need any more scarves as I have a million already (just not tartan ones , but I dont Need tartan ones ,)

Repeat out loud , Laska....

mmm...laska..well you sound like you have been doing impressively well. Well i am still doing rubbish. I have ordered quite a number of things for winter, but i have to stop now. It has been bad because we are off currently with the October week here. It means i browse the internet too often..annoyingly. I have been throwing away the catalogues but still ordering online [ weeps]

Greengardenpixie · 16/10/2014 20:00

..and mumsnet S&B is not helping gggrrr!!!

Greengardenpixie · 16/10/2014 20:01

Ooooh and tartan scarves..and scarves in general..love them but rarely wear them!

Greengardenpixie · 16/10/2014 20:04

Yes, i bought a pair of Ilse jacobsen low boots...to wear when its wet and snowy..but i really did not need them!! They are cool though!! It hasnt actually rained since i bought them.
As for my large spend toast boots....mmm...gorgeous, comfy and ive worn them once. Still they will last forever :)

Laska42 · 16/10/2014 20:42

greengarden not really... have you read above? I've been buying things I dont really need and sending them back! , (and after yesterday when i bought yet another jacket, then realising I was being ridiculous Itook it straight back , not even taking it home ... Im starting to think I have a real problem .. ) BlushSad

I'm still doing well, the only other thing I've got was a pretty cheap tracksuit from costco.

Trills · 16/10/2014 20:56

I had a tights audit recently which was very cathartic.

I'm going on holiday on Monday and I have NOT BOUGHT any new clothes. I have plenty.

Petal02 · 16/10/2014 21:57

Before anyone pulls me up on my new 'help me find a cocktail dress' thread, DH is buying this for me. So I assume this is permissible??????

Greengardenpixie · 16/10/2014 22:47

So i wonder how coconut is doing? Not seen her on for a while. She always had a cos fetish!!
Well Laska, hang on the fact you returned it :) Im proud of you Grin

Greengardenpixie · 16/10/2014 22:52

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/10/2014 20:15

I keep getting Joe Bloggs catalogues offering me great deals as a valued customer. I;ve never bought from them, ever. Never even looked on their website.

They don't give up Confused

Laska42 · 22/10/2014 20:04

Any one else finding they are not on the net so much because of avoiding spending? I'm not going out so much lunchtimes either, but must get out ofthe office some days ..perhaps ill start going for a fast walk instead ..I used to do that before but have got out of the habit .

I am still getting my S&B fix (but not everyday) and also just not clicking on the links fo recommendations so much now..

(However I am spending more on kindle books ..)

I have sinned Sad. I bought a scarf from Asos for £12. I love it and I'm not retuning it.

I am a bad girl Sad.

cardamomginger · 22/10/2014 21:19

But I have been selling loads of stuff on Ebay and am most definitely in credit Grin.

CoconutAmericano · 22/10/2014 21:27

Hi ladies! Well this month won't actually be a no spend month for me because i bought a fabulous coat on Saturday and i need some new bras (inspired by seeing my side profile earlier in a useless bra, my god, the sagginess, the sagginess). Sad

BUT thanks to laska and the support from the other ladies i have been dong fantastically well with not spending and actually living within my means. I have literally had one splurge since August which was the coat i bought last week. And i bought two pairs of jeans for €40 in h&m last month. This is huge progress for me!!

I swear this thread really made me think. I will be back committed to a no spend November, if you'll have me Grin

Ps greengarden how are the boots? Grin

Laska42 · 23/10/2014 18:33

Well I had another Woolovers catalogue today (2 this week! Why?) .

Hi coconut great to hear from you again..
cardamom i'd wag my finger , but however I sinned today also .. bought a Black Watch -looky-like tartan overshirt in New Look.. (ive wanted one for a long time actually .. but even so..Blush ) ..

But I too have hardly spent compared to what I used to since starting this and i'm being much more creative with what i have

For example today I dragged out a black grey and white checked shirt from DollyPs, that I have had for years and wore it to work over a charcoal tube dress, charcoal leggings and biker boots.. I reckon I looked pretty darned ok too (well no one sniggered to my face anywayWink ). But I would never have thought of wearing that shirt that way before ..

However , I did fall in love with a red plaid coat I saw in todays Guardian and looked it up thinking I'd have to have it come what may .. However the £650 price tag , put that Firmly out of my mind..Grin)

So we are going for NO-Vember also then? Could be tough , with party season looming ( though as I said earlier , I have my Biba lush frock already .. and plenty of other sparkly things of course)
