Love it tomandlorenzo.com/2014/09/george-clooney-and-amal-alamuddin-get-married-part-two/ and I can't wait to see the frock. Even though the whole wedding has been too brash for me and abit not right with it. I love the way she dresses. Call me shallow but this is S & B!

Here, here re: aiming for the Whitehouse. Doubt they'll get all the way but that's what this is all about. When has George Clooney ever been so publicity-friendly? It just doesn't look or feel right. He's on a mission to showcase himself as a regular (straight) family guy.

One of them is going to have to give up their career to make this work, surely? Or do they plan to return to their respective sides of the Atlantic after the honeymoon and catch up every so often for a photo-op and a friendly bunk-up?

mignonette · 30/09/2014 09:29

It is typically Oscar.

cheeseandpineapple · 30/09/2014 10:06

Emily, have you watched Scandal? Worth a watch! The President only gets elected once he and his wife can play the happy family.

Bet George has been advised he needs the whole 2.4 kids thing for a political career.

I think Amal will join him State Side, she can still do her international work from there, whatever she's still doing and G will probably look to run as Governor somewhere once they've banged out a couple of perfect sprogs although he's getting on a bit so they can't leave it too long...

Onedropoflove · 30/09/2014 10:07

I like it but it has no wow factor. I never think you can really tell in mag photos.

cheeseandpineapple · 30/09/2014 10:11

I think it's rather understated and not that Oscary, Mignonette?

Took me by surprise that it wasn't a little more ostentatious, expected it to be strapless but with the off the shoulder sleeve, made it a little more coy to me?

I like that she's generally out there in her dress sense, it can be disarming and intimidating, suspect in her career she's been underestimated on first meeting and then proves herself to be polished and smart both inside and out.

LinusDKD · 30/09/2014 10:19

Not sure G Clooney has political ambitions as he directed and wrote the screenplay for The Ides of March, a film about all the dirty tactics and compromises selling your soul to the devil you have to make to be elected. (Good film btw)

I think his father once ran for office (not sure at what level) and that made an impression on George from what I rerember from his Inside the Actor's Studio interview I saw a while ago.

I am sure he will remain involved with politics (Darfur etc) without necessarily running for office himself.

Anyway, I like her wedding dress and the rest of her wedding outfits. Not my personal style but it suits her, which is all that matters really.

MarshaBrady · 30/09/2014 10:22

That's a great film Linus.

I like the dress a lot but the photos do have that staged effect.

cheeseandpineapple · 30/09/2014 10:32

I wouldn't have thought it either Linus but for the whirlwind romance with someone who's very engaged in international politics.

Call me a cynic but he could have carried on just dating her if he didn't have bigger political ambitions.

As others have said, it doesn't add up. But maybe it's just that old fashioned thing called love and I'm an old cynic!

looki · 30/09/2014 10:48

Oh my I have just caught a glimpse of the cover of Hello online of her wedding dress.

What I saw is the most beautiful dress I've ever seen.

higgle · 30/09/2014 10:53

DH and I both found the wedding disconcertimg. DH thought George looked great and felt he looked old and unattractive in comparison, and I thought the same about her. Then we had a think about the day to day of it and wondered if it will feel as woderful from the inside as we see it on the outside. The whole wedding thing was glorious and wonderful, so wonderful it reminded me of JKF and Jackie and as if it might be the "before" to some sort of "after" . We could do with a genuinely clever beautiful and committed couple on the world stage, so hope it goes well for them.

Loandbehold · 30/09/2014 10:53

I was really underwhelmed by her wedding dress, I was expecting something jaw dropping.

Twinklestein · 30/09/2014 10:56

I love that outfit.

santamarianovella · 30/09/2014 10:57

I don't like it Blush, and I wish she had her hair up,

George is old Hollywood, I never thought he was handsome, but he has that glamour and class factor, they way he dresses, his choice in movies, you never see him doing crazy stuff, and he is very much involved in things out of the Hollywood box, he meets with influential people all the time and has strong ties with them, he is building a career for himself in politics, but I don't think this marriage is an arrangement or anything, maybe he finds her interesting and is really in love with her,

HesterShaw · 30/09/2014 10:59

Oh fuck off wit the "far too thin" comments! Too thin for what?

specialsubject · 30/09/2014 11:00

quite staggered to find how young she is - the emaciation, solid black hair, elderly trouser suit and inch-thick slap make her look near his age.

that explains the talk of kids, I thought she'd be in her late forties and so too old but clearly not.

scrape it off and eat something, Amal! But keep smiling, good to see a happy bride.

specialsubject · 30/09/2014 11:01

'too thin for what'

bone health. Fertility. And not looking ill when any limbs exposed. That's what.

no, that does not mean she has to eat herself spherical.

HesterShaw · 30/09/2014 11:03

Yes and people talk the same old shit about the Duchess of Cambridge, someone who is fit AND fertile.

HesterShaw · 30/09/2014 11:04

And what on earth does her fertility have to do with anyone except her and her husband? Nothing. The "too thin" brigade make out they're "concerned" when they're just being bitchy.

mignonette · 30/09/2014 11:05

A lot of Oscar's wedding gowns are less showy than his main lines- he does do a lot of heavy lace with embroidery overlay. Plus that ever so slight infanta look (not dissimilar to the Oscar wedding dress SJP wore in her Vogue shoot that crossed over into the first film).

I think that Angelina and William Hague will get together (professionally!) and set up a foundation and George and Amal have something similar in mind. Think they are seeing themselves as transcending politics.

LinusDKD · 30/09/2014 11:11

Maybe after all the waitresses/fitness instructors/starlets he has dated in the past he has finally found someone who is intellectually his equal or even his superior and that's why he is marrying her?

I do understand the cynicism as he is a Hollywood actor and his world is not known for honesty and realism, but I really don't get the 'bad vibes' people get from looking at a few pictures and reading a few articles.

I agree that he is not necessarily a handsome man but he does come across in television interviews as someone who is smart and funny, but maybe he's just a brilliant actor pretending to be someone who's smart and funny. Grin

HesterShaw · 30/09/2014 11:21

he is not necessarily a handsome man

I mean COME ON!! :o

mignonette · 30/09/2014 11:26

I am one of those freaky women who do not find him attractive personally. I can see why women do but he does nothing for me sexually. He''s a bit bland.

I wouldn't call Lisa Snowdon intellectually 'inferior'. She might not be academic but she is quick. Nor would I call his other girlfriends his inferior. From listening to him in interviews George doesn't exactly come across as a super brain himself. He has access to the best brains and lived experience though and spending time around people like that does rub off.

That is what I envy - the chance to meet and engage with such amazing people (not including him in that category!).

santamarianovella · 30/09/2014 11:34

The last movie I saw,was monuments men (highly recommend it,dont read the reviews whoever wrote them doesn't appreciate Art) he directed ,written and starred in it, now most directors/actors would have chosen to focus on the battlefield ,that's how you make big bucks from movies in Hollywood. I just found it really fascinating that he chose to Foucs on the stolen Art during WW2, i really loved him in that movie,as though he belonged in that era, very gentleman like.

most people who reach their 50s suffer a set back and start acting all crazy, trying to prove they are still young, he just seems very comfortable with himself, which is good,

Sorry hester nooooo, matt Damon .... yes please!

LinusDKD · 30/09/2014 11:44

I agree about Matt Damon but only as Jason Bourne santa Wink

I disagree Mig, I think he comes across as very intelligent, well informed and well spoken in television interviews.

That Actor's Studio interview I mentioned before in particular where he answers questions on a wide range of subjects, not just acting.

But again, he might just be a great actor pretending to be intelligent. Bit like Ronald Reagan pretending to be a great president. Grin

HesterShaw · 30/09/2014 11:47

It's because he's funny and clever too. And can sing. I totally dig him with a bit of stubble in farm labourer's clothing.
