The only way I'll get teen ds to wear a coat this winter is if it has a over priced super dry logo on it Hmm

I'm looking at the website at the Arctic wind trekker and the wind trekker. Is the Arctic one REALLY toasty as he won't like that, he's more of a light jacket boy but it does need to be slightly water repellent and see him through the winter so perhaps the wind trekker?

Anyone have a ds with one?
He's going halves with me btw,I can't bring myself to spend that much on a winter coatGrin

My ds has the Arctic windcheater as, it would seem, do all his mates. I bought it last winter in largish size. I am pleased I did as he has grown like a weed.

It's warm but not overly so. Extremely well made and durable. I don't get the bazillion zips thing, but he loves it.

HolgerDanske · 24/09/2014 18:46

It's not overly warm. It's got a fleece lining and water resistant outer layer. I would say it's just about right for Uk winter.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/09/2014 18:48

Aha! Thank you! I'll size up too as ds is growing like a weed also. Is it a puffy jacket or quite fitted? Ds hates anything too puffy , the fussy toe rag!

Glad to hear it's well madeSmile

^ that's the arctic fleece, just to be clear.

The wind cheater is just a thin layer of outerwear, no warmth at all.

Also, unless he's skinny you will need to size up if he's into men's sizes for clothing. So if he's a small he will probably need medium. They come up very small.

HolgerDanske · 24/09/2014 18:49

It's not puffy.

CurlsLDN · 24/09/2014 18:50

Can't actually help with your actual question, but superdry have an outlet shop on ebay, or did when I was Xmas shopping last year

ajandjjmum · 24/09/2014 18:50

Superdry have an outlet at Bicester - don't whether that might be worth a call?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/09/2014 18:53

Ah right, I'll go for the Arctic one then, thank you. Will also look on Ebay!

DS's has a fleecy inner and a (seemingly) water resistant outer, I may have got the name wrong.

Not puffy - quite a slim fit.

burnishedsilver · 24/09/2014 19:48

Ds has the arctic one. I was a bit disappointed when it arrived as the fleece is thinner than I expected and it didn't look warm enough for the dead of winter. He, however, absolutely loves it.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/09/2014 19:50

Great, glad I asked as I'd have got the thinner one and it sounds like he needs the Arctic. Slim fit is good, he's as skinny as they come but I'll size up to allow for growth.

Agree with other Arctic is warm. But not boil in the bag hot. Ds had one a year last Xmas. Has been frequently washed and is still very black and very red. Looks like new when it comes out the machine. (Ignoring the numerous zips) when he finally grows out of it I will be keeping for me! I find it really comfortable and particularly like the thumb holes. Buy large and you'll get lots of wear out of a coat that will still look like new.

Ds had his as an Xmas present from his doting great gran as I refused to pay for the label. His next coat will be the same one which I will have no issue at all paying full price for and it's rare I feel like that about ds's anything!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/09/2014 20:00

I might pay full price then if the quality is good.

I'll buy a medium and large and see which fits best then send it back.

Glad it's not too hot,he has a Patagonia one which he never wears as he's boiling in it. Shame as it was a steal in tk max.

I ordered two to try sizing and the refund was prompt and no nonsense.

(Great gran then refunded me for it!)

My suggestion would be to find out if any close friends have them in a particular colourway though. Ds has black and red, some of his friends have the black and blue one and regularly go home with wrong coats and have to then have a sort out. Avoid the same issue if poss, it sounds like it's got heated on occasion.

jennieflower · 24/09/2014 20:16

The superdry ebay outlet has the polar jacket for £30 in navy and £39 in black at the moment, I've bought from the outlet before with no problems, even when I had to return stuff.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/09/2014 08:21

I'm ordering now but dithering about the sizeHmm

His jumpers are 36, so shall I order a medium which is 38? In Primark he's still in boy's 13 and only just in an xs man's in certain styles. He's never been a large in anything before.

If I order 2 he'll automatically go for the slimmest fit but I need it to last...

Neena-they've all got them apparently at school, I'll have to label it anyway as he's taking it to school. Thanks for the heads up thoughGrin

I know this is S&B and not Parenting but if he is so insistent he will only wear one (very popular and expensive) brand, how about he does his own research?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/09/2014 08:29

He isn't insistent whatsoever, in his wildest dreams he never thought I'd buy one for him, but seeing as he's 13 and I'm the one with the credit card I'll do the research. Thanks all the same though for your really helpful post and you're right, this is why I posted in S and B not parenting.Smile

Awww it'll be a lovely surprise for him Smile

Behoove · 25/09/2014 09:13

I'm Envy about your DS still being allowed to wear proper jackets. Our school went to compulsory blazers last year - has there ever been a more inappropriate jacket for young people. Heavy, itchy, roasting even in mild weather, useless in any kind of damp or rainy weather. Angry

HolgerDanske · 25/09/2014 09:15

Yes same here with compulsory blazers only. I was really glad it was a mild winter here last year - my daughter has a forty minute walk to school!

Hakluyt · 25/09/2014 09:16

Have you ordered it or do you want me to look at ds's and see what size it is?
