Advice please, if you've a moment.

I grew my hair from short, very blonde (see pic) to this.... It's dead straight and a dull mouse. I'm 52 and just feel like my hair's fading. Not grey yet just bland because I decided that if I was growing it, it'd be healthier without colour.

Now, I'm bored. And without loads of colour on my face, I look grey and washed out. So, my question is this.
1). Go for loads of highlights (but tint, not bleach)
2). Go for a full head permanent colour (which I've never, ever had and am worried about roots).
3). Ask for something colour wise, to "warm me up".

Don't want brassy, straw like locks though!
TIA :-)

Have just taken this "rear view" photo and stuck it on my profile file as could put on the thread. Bloody Nora...the colour's all over the shop! Also, my hair's crazy fine but loads of it. Does this pic change anyone's advice? I had no idea the colour was SO uneven. Shave it off?

No, that link didn't quite work, it was to rake you to a pic of Sarah Jessica Parker with darker hair. She's gone from blonde bob to longer and darker hair, and there are loads of images on google that show how it's been managed.

Ah yes! We highlighted ladies know the stress of which you speak....and the cash outlay!

Another vote for the bob, slightly choppy is apparently the current approved "twist".

321zerobaby · 17/09/2014 21:01

Sorry haven't read all the thread. I like you with the bob. In the first picture, I think it would be softer to cover your forehead a little, maybe a side parting and tucked behind your ear so you can't see your hairline?

I would go with tinted highlights.

Eliza22 · 17/09/2014 21:08

Thanks for taking the tine everyone! Wine. Cheers!

btw

even if your sis is a stunning beauty that shouldn't take away from or diminish your individual beauty
you look great, honestly

madmomma · 17/09/2014 21:29

The bob looked beautiful and you should go back to it, and the colour. Totally classic. Hope you're back to full strength asap x

MrsTuppence · 17/09/2014 21:34

I'm going to go against the grain and say that I prefer the longer, darker style that you have now. You have a great face and I actually think the bright blond takes away from your natural beauty. I know that a highlighted bob always looks 'pulled together', but I think a selection of warmish slices and a choppy trim would give you the lift you're looking for.

Sorry to be contrary! Grin

Eliza22 · 17/09/2014 21:58

S'Ok MrsTuppence....I probably won't be fully decided til I sit down, in the chair tomorrow. I'll then be required to stop dithering and make a decision and remember...it's only hair!

On a lighter note.... Am sat here typing and have noticed that my index finger (which had a small, pea sized bit of purple discolouration on it this lunchtime) has now turned blackish purple. Nice. Maybe should see my GP instead of my hairdresser!

Eliza, good luck tomorrow. I hope you come out of the hairdressers feeling that you have more options to you than just either long and floppy OR bleached blond bob.

There has to be a middle way which allows you to evolve in the direction you had in mind in the first place when you began this project!

Fingers crossed you have a creative resourceful hairdresser.

Bingbongbinglybunglyboo · 17/09/2014 22:19

Your 52??!! Fuck a duck you look fucking fab! (What is your secret to your fab skin? Mine is shite and I'm in my 30's, and I have shit hair. You look great!

KoalaDownUnder · 18/09/2014 03:47

I agree with MrsTuppence! Something between the blonde bob and what you have now, maybe...a bit longer and choppier than the bob, with some highlights.

With your skin and facial structure, you can hardly go wrong, really. You would be stunning for 32, let alone 52!!

VestaCurry · 18/09/2014 04:42

I think colour wise you should ask your hairdresser about blond/light brown highlights and lowlights that will help bring out your lovely eye colour.
I was watching Tamzin Outhwaite on 'Who Do You Think You Are?' A couple of nights ago and thought she's got her hair colour just right for a blond with brown eyes. Your eye colour reminds me of hers.
Have a look at the programme on I player and see what you think.

Eliza22 · 18/09/2014 07:38

BingBongBing, never mind your hair/skin. Just your name on here and the Hugh Grant-style "fuckity-fuckity fuck" cheered me up, this morning. Grin

Vesta I have that on planner. Will take a quick peek.

You look great with both I think the angle of the longer hair is not as good in the pic and if it was blonder either looks great. Your mother sounds a horror though as you look fantastic

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 18/09/2014 12:51

irrelevant to the debate but you remind me of this person

polyhymnia · 18/09/2014 14:40

Do let us know what you decided.

Eliza22 · 19/09/2014 08:45

Morning all... I've been "done". Two inches lopped off (not as short as the short bob but got rid of the wispy bits so, looks healthier). My hairdresser reminded me that with that short bob I'd not be able to tie it back, at all. I can always go shorter next time, if I'm happy to NOT tie it back.

The colour's a big improvement. A fine weave of highlights all over but still having my own "mouse" as lowlights.

Thanks to Apple and the iPad iOS updates..... I cannot upload a pic yet, but when my iPad sorts itself out, I will! Smile

Lurks to await pics Smile

PS glad you went with the bob 'tis lovely

AimlesslyPurposeful · 19/09/2014 11:17

I think your hair looks lovely in all your photos but looking forward to seeing the new do.

Btw, I think you look quite similar to the lady in this blog. Her colouring looks similar to yours. Might be some future hair inspiration to be had there.

Eliza22 · 19/09/2014 11:44

Aimlessly.... Like that. It really suits the lady. Thanks
