bra help. . . m and s lady actually laughed at me

Hi there, I read the posts on correct bra fitting. I'm 31 and 38. Off I went to m and s, delighted with myself. Only to be sneered at. When the door dragon noticed I had a 32 Fs in hand, she actually put her arm out and said, where are you going with those, you're at least a 36C. i thanked her and said I had been given good advise and knew what I was doing. She sneered at me, and said you don't have a clue. Then have me a fake smile. Seriously?

So, more important than her bad attitude. . Am I trying. The right size. I did all the scoping but there was still a lot of unattractive under arm fat. I'm squishy of torso so tthere's going to be fat. i left without buying it. . . Though pretended to dragon lady that I was.

Any tips for me please?

Have you tried any 30Gs?

phonebox · 11/09/2014 17:29

Oh, and I would complain to M&S about the horrid, miserable woman!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 11/09/2014 17:36

Horrible cow. I am very very surprised at M&S. Definately complain that was customer service at it's worse. I think the management will want to know about this.
Sometimes in them type of situations you feel embarrassed enough don't you.
How old was she about with the risk of getting flamed some of these older ones have been there too long. I always find younger
staff are more eager because they're fresh and eager to please.
Like I said definately complain. Go straight to management

IScreamForIceCream · 11/09/2014 17:37

Is there a bravissimo near you? They'll measure you up a treat and utterly not be bitches.

SnakesRule · 11/09/2014 17:40

This is from Myla's bra size guide which I think is really good , at least for their bras. I ordered few bras from them (sale bras of cause) and they fitted very well. I don't believe M&S are doing it right , all the bras fitted by them were completely wrong!

^Let's start with your back size. Wrap the tape measure (may we suggest using a fabricone) around your ribcage, just under your bust. Pull it snug but not too tight -it shouldn't cut into your skin unless you want your bra to do the same! Make sureit's flat and level around your back.

If the measurement in inches is an even number, add another four
If the measurement in inches is an odd number, add another five
This gives you your back size. So, if you measured 30 inches you should add four to give you a back size of 34; if you measured 31, you add five to get a back sizeof 36.^

Then you need cup size -
Take the difference between back size and breast size.

^The back and cup measurements are the same A
a difference of 1"/2.5cm B
a difference of 2"/5cm C
a difference of 3"/7.5cm D
a difference of 4"/10cm DD
a difference of 5"/12.5cm E^

So sounds like in your case you will need 36G

Try Triumph - they are great bras for bigger cups.

TheFairyCaravan · 11/09/2014 17:44

Nooooooooo, you don't add inches to get your back size anymore. That's all wrong and outdated.

OP needs the bra intervention ladies, they'll sort her out.

HumphreyCobbler · 11/09/2014 17:45

why on earth would you add four or five inches to your back measurement?

ilovepowerhoop · 11/09/2014 17:45

no no no, do not add extra inches, that gives you the completely wrong size you need the bra guru blog. will find it for you

specialsubject · 11/09/2014 17:46

jeez.

email the branch and complain. People who want to keep jobs should not be rude to customers.

phonebox · 11/09/2014 17:47

Yup, bras have this amazing thing called elastic in them now Grin

34 band size on a size 6/8

I'm an 8/10 and in a 30 band size because a 28 band size rubs on my ribs. I got them from Debenhams - they're so much more supportive than my M&S 34A's (and I can raise my arms without the whole bra ending up round my neck!)

EvilTwins · 11/09/2014 17:48

We have a new Bravissimo shop in town. I went in and the lady there was absolutely lovely. No tape measures - looked at how I looked in my bra and told me what was wrong. I wasn't far off - have done the MN intervention before now and shifted from a 38 DD to a 36 E. Bravissimo put me in 34F and I am v pleased with the massive amount of money I spent lovely bras I came home with.

ilovepowerhoop · 11/09/2014 17:48

I would try 30 F/FF and 32E/F too btw

pinkfrocks · 11/09/2014 17:48

email the chairman, never mind the local branch.

Redcoats · 11/09/2014 17:50

What a cow, hope you threw them back at her and told her you'd go to Debenhams instead. Ffs

I don't think the bras on M&S are tht good anyway, last time I tried some on (32f via the bra intervention thread) they just seemed a bit cheap and flimsy.

ditsygal · 11/09/2014 17:52

I agree with the advice to go to Bravissimo if you possibly can - even if only to get measured by them. I used to be a bra fitter for them and can honestly say they will know what they are doing and will be lovely to you as well!
But it sounds like you are on the right tracks - ignore the M&S lady.

iwantgin · 11/09/2014 17:52

I am similar measurements to you OP - 31" underband and 37" round booblies.

My perfect size is 32E. So you should be okay in a 32F - or go down to a 30 band size. It needs to be tight.

The hard part is that differing brands and styles fit differently. My faves are Debenhams Gorgeous range. They seem to fit well.

I do get a bit of underarm fat, but i think that is just, well, fat.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 11/09/2014 18:00

I always need a bigger cupsize than I expect. Can't remember exactly but I think the last one I bought was around the 32G mark, even though I'm only a bit booby - not "huge" as we've all been led to expect G cups to be (I fit into a size 10/12 top for example).

SnakesRule · 11/09/2014 18:10

Oh, no! Maybe its just for Myla's bra sizes?

Although they do have elastic thing in them @phonebox and they fit like a kid glove.

I just measured myself - 30/36 and I get 34 E or F.
I could do 32 F or DD in M&S but no way I would fit into 30.
I find M&S bras unflattering and stretching too much after few washes.
I suspect the bra sizes different for different makes.

Checking other sites..

ilovepowerhoop · 11/09/2014 18:35

SnakesRule using that Myla size guide would have given you a bra size of 34C which is nothing like what you are wearing. In reality you should probably be wearing around a 30E.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 11/09/2014 18:39

I got dragon telling me that 34b wouldn't fit me.(fat and large of nork). Err yeah they WERE for dd, but now they are going to the back of fuck.

Hebburnisaplaceonearth · 11/09/2014 18:44

Never darken m&s lingerie dept doors again OP- they are useless, and apparently incredibly rude to boot! The bras don't fitting well IMO anyway even if you had the right size. Other brands much better eg freya, fantasie, curvy kate, panache. The bra gurus guide/MN method is undoubtedly the most accurate. It gives you a starting point to work from, then you try in bras around that size. Some brands come up bigger/smaller but hopefully statisticallychallenged will come and give more advice on particular brands/styles.

Armpit fat I think is to do with needing smaller band and bigger cup but I could be wrong.

JustLikeHeaven · 11/09/2014 22:41

Thanks all so much

i will see if we have a bravisimo

The underarm fat. . . Is probably just that. . Fat. Thanks again everyone

JustLikeHeaven · 11/09/2014 22:46

i just checked, there is no bravisimo in ireland. I'm in Dublin, I wonder if there anyone here who knows of a place in Dublin that adopts this correct method of measuring.

If not, trial and error and I will get there.
