Forever Autumn Forever Crepey

The summer sun is fading as the year grows old,
and darker days are drawing near,
the winter winds will be much colder,
now you're not here.
I watch the birds fly south across the autumn sky
and one by one they disappear
I wish that I was flying with them,
now you're not here

I found I ground to a halt with the GF. Must give it another go but have just blagged review copy of new Marian Keyes and feel urge to veg.

Wilbur, you blonde hussy, where are you cocktailing? Mind you I am going to local pub with v nice MNer friend of non-Crepey years.

I have actually paid attention to the supermarket order and thought of things we might like eating, rather than collapsing with not very nice pizza in front of Dr Who. I will be v unpopular for this with the Inferiorettes, since when I say 'we' I mean 'I', obviously.

Blackduck · 04/09/2014 18:24

Neeks? Enlighten me BTM ...

Rosebag · 04/09/2014 18:25

MI I teach on a Thurs night and my kids have pizza upstairs in their bedrooms. You are a good mother. I am Blush
They also have milk and biscuits (habit of old…I've been teaching at home for 10 years). I leave a plate of fruit up there….it will remain untouched if past form is anything to go by….

motherinferior · 04/09/2014 18:29

Rose, it's purely because I am fed up with not very nice pizza. Which is what DP tends to produce on a Saturday night. If I fling butter beans/garlic/olives/peppers/chicken thighs in the oven, and same mix sans chicken for DD1, we will have something nice to eat. I might pointedly suggest DP does it, actually. It is a bit of a nuisance that I am so much better a cook than he is.

Blackduck · 04/09/2014 18:31

Here it was stuff pasta and a pasta bake....

I am barking like a seal - but have to go in tomorrow as have meetings....

Blackduck · 04/09/2014 18:33

Stuffed....

motherinferior · 04/09/2014 18:43

I should stress this nice meal is not tonight. In fact I'm not feeding my children at all tonight, they are chez the Lovely Friend who usually has them while I go singing. Except that tonight I'm going to the pub instead.

bigTillyMint · 04/09/2014 18:43

Neeks are a mix of nerds/geeks - basically those with an ounce more intelligence than the rest, but are not cool, as perceived by those that think they are coolWink

DS is very unhappy about his bestie being split from him. DH is NOT happy about the uniform/lateness business, but as DS has gone off to footy training, he will have to wait till later!

Blackduck · 04/09/2014 19:11

Ahh - I think ds would probably be catagorised as a neek.....

lalsy · 04/09/2014 20:39

Blush I had been vaguely wondering why all these Indyref threads and what kind of music they might be about. Just clicked on one and light dawned.

dd has finally got her university portal thingie to work so we can now concentrate on shopping. I don't think it has dawned on her that this will be a good week to ask me for Things: she's pitching for posh cake on her last day of a volunteering project she's been doing all summer, she could aim sooo much higher.....

hattymattie · 04/09/2014 20:43

MI - your meal with butter beans and chicken sounds delicious - do you do any sort of sauce with this? I may try it as butter beans would be a new departure for us.

MollyAir · 04/09/2014 22:50

Speaking as one in possession of two (2, ii) neeks, and married to one who is off the scale, happily they don't seem to be particularly unpopular these days. Thank God. I would say they are a bit envied for being able to do stuff extremely quickly on the computer and in maths class; but now that computer gaming is so mainstream, they're not derided. They can even be useful if you need a computer game "cheat" - the neeks have all the rulebooks memorised. That type used to be derided when all they did was play Dungeons and Dragons. Especially if they dressed up.

Glad to hear you sounding a bit better, MI. Of course you are bound to be having all kinds of emotional rollercoasting with regard to your mum. The more negative feelings are perfectly legit and valid, don't feel guilty.

NUFC69 · 05/09/2014 01:25

Hello from sunny California. A belated happy birthday to BTM. I am lying on the bed trying to recover from a wine tasting cum gaume (oh god, I have forgotten how to spell) food tasting - five courses with specially selected wines. Oh yes, it's gourmet, I think. Shock We are also poorer as DH has just bought two expensive bottles of wine.

This morning we went to the Charles Shultz Museum and DH and I had our photo taken with Snoopy. Grin I will send a copy to MI and she can put it up on Facebook if she wants so that you can laugh at me.

We're having a fantastic time. I hope the DC are all coping well with the new school term. Good luck to Herbs, with getting a new school for DS - you know it's the right thing to do.

hattymattie · 05/09/2014 05:37

Now I'm really jealous. Have a wonderful time NUSmile

bigTillyMint · 05/09/2014 06:28

Wow NU, this is why I want to do a Cali tripEnvy Snoopy too!

Rosebag · 05/09/2014 09:15

I think that "neeks" have a habit of growing up to become quite cool…Smile
MI I agree, there's not very nice pizza around…partic the take away variety. I get the supermarket own brands. Waitrose ones are nice. I like the sound of your chicken, butter bean thingy. It's just that pizza works for us when the kids need to eat upstairs…at least it doesn't spill. I've tried all sorts to manage these evenings…at one point DH was supposed to get home early enough to take them out for supper…He managed it once. Hmm

NU Sounds amazing, you lucky thing!

I started to feel a bit happier last night. I always look forward to a new class, and this lot are going to be good. Lovely mix of personalities and ethnicities….it's quite amazing what a different person I am after a few hours of being the professional. By the same token the deterioration when I descend into domesticity is very marked. Strangely, I missed ConScript. He has been observing my classes over the last few months for purposes of research for our play. I kinda got used to him being there!

I am now waiting in for the curtain people. FINALLY we will have decent drapes in our dining room and lounge. 11 years ago I bought cheap and nasty curtains from Woolworths (Yes, that long ago) to tide us over whilst we rented an unfurnished house for 6 months between moves. They are still hanging on our current windows. What's left of them. This is classic Rosebag….we never finish a room. Grin

Molly our Dh's would get along famously, for dh is King amongst Neeks, to the extent of not even knowing he actually is oneGrin
I laughed at your description of them too. Dh is a demon at University Challenge when it comes to 19th century mathematicians or inventors.
I can recognise paintings and music , at which he is crap. Grin

Lalsy did you decide upon a printer yet? I need to do something about that today .

Yesterday was a Bad Leg Day and I was a miserable old cow. Today better be easier or I swear I will saw the leg off.

Further testing of school today - he went in wearing his eye, and we shall see if anyone knows how to deal with it if something goes wrong. The head was at the school gates, but didn't single me out to speak to. Scales are tipping back away from staying.

Watched Educating the East End last night. The school is near us, and a possible secondary for DS. AAAGGGHHHH. I am now selling all our possessions to send him to Eton.

motherinferior · 05/09/2014 10:26

Herbs, my darling, it is MANY YEARS till your precious boy goes to secondary so do not worry about that yet blots out memory of DD1 looking shifty when I said "I hope you're not all like that".

Hattie, it's based on a Jamie recipe. I will find it when not feeling faintly fragile after Night Out With Gurls (and some of them were really quite young) last night. For the record, running does not nuke a hangover.

I washed my VW dress as instructed on the label, and it has shrunk by a tiny bit. Just enough to be a teeeensy bit short, and a teeeeensy bit tight. V vexing.

Shoes and bag are a problem with it. Something faintly wacky yet plain, like big wedges, or studded ankle boots. And a metallic bag. Or something. Crikey, I don't know.
