Handbags - Minimal and chic. Less well known brands?

I have been looking for a new black handbag for a while, budget £200ish. I have started to dislike overt branding and blingy hardware after looking at all the Michael Kors bags, some of which I'd like if they didn't have the logo. I was wondering are there lesser known brands that make nice quality bags without all the branding? Please don't suggest Peony & Moore. Ideally I'd love a soft leather tote/shopper style bag that has handles to carry it with your hand but also a strap to carry it on the shoulder. I quite like the one on the photo (minus the pin).

If you have that budget, head to Selfridges/John Lewis/House of Fraser for a bit of a feel and a squish...I keep bumping into Modalu bags this way, and some lovely Dickins and Jones. Or, you'll find gorgeous, relatively unknown brands in TK Maxx.

Jaeger tote

trixymalixy · 02/09/2014 22:02

Sophie Hulme is my favourite. Bit pricey, but you can sometimes get bargains in the sales.

Awks · 02/09/2014 22:04

That Jaeger one in orange is lovely

Coccinelle

Twointhe, I own four. One was a birthday present (significant birthday), one was with work incentive money, the other two I bought myself (these were the cheaper ones). Also to add I bought them all in the sale, the most money spent on one was £165, still a lot of money but good for the quality. Have a look on john lewis . Com they may have some sale bags left.

How about Decadent? decadentcopenhagen.com/shop/bags-4s1.html

Gerard Darel

Or - Whistles bags are around that price point.

HamAndPlaques · 03/09/2014 09:34

Or finally - Coach?

imip · 03/09/2014 18:19

Second mimi here, I had my beautiful one stolen from my buggy ... Sniff, sniff...

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/09/2014 18:25

I like the Mimi Berry bags. I'm a big fan of Coach bags, and you can often get them for half price in the sale. They're not overly popular, and you can also pick up some bargains on ebay.

polyhymnia · 03/09/2014 18:27

Another vote for Nat and Nin here. Though my most successful bags have mainly come from Russell and Bromley, I guess.

boodles · 03/09/2014 19:23

Imip, I would cry if someone stole my Mimi!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 03/09/2014 19:45

Oushka make nice bags. I've just got a lovely bag from &otherstories which is nicely made and has not tacky labels or logos.

M Hulot. Beautiful bags and beautifully made.

imip · 03/09/2014 21:36

Boodles, the day the bag was stolen (the softest leather, nice and gold and sparkly...), I had my 12 week scan and everything was good. Kind of put it all into perspective.

Since then, just over three years ago, I've stuck with a variety of free canvas bags from stores Hmm.

frogmore6 · 04/09/2014 18:31

Modalu is quite good.

Bluestocking · 04/09/2014 18:35

Mimi Berry large leather tote on sale at Johnny Looloo!

MissBeehiving · 04/09/2014 19:01

I like Uterque which is a sister brand to Zara.

H&M have some lovely minimalist leather bags in atm.
