Girls bra sizes

I'm having a hard time finding bras to fit my 11 yr old daughter and wonder if anyone could advise me. I've measured her - she's 30'' round under bust and 34'' over. I made her bend over! We've tried 30A/B, 32 A/B and she complains they feel too tight round her chest. She is very broad and is heavy, something were gradually working on. I've tried Debenhams & M & S. Don't have a John Lewis near us. Any other ideas or recommendations?

I believe she should be in a 30D with those measurements! Probably why you're struggling to find something to fit.

She needs 30 D. They will feel a bit tight at first, but should be right.

I think the cup size you are trying is too small. Isn't it 1 inch = 1 cup size, so those measurements would give you a 30D as your starting point.

This is what confuses me. The cup sizes actually seem ok, it's the band round which seems too tight. She does have overhanging flesh above it usually and says it's very uncomfortable which is why I've ended up going bigger. Also where is the best place to find non-padded/ not underwired bras for young girls in a D cup?

so get her to put the bra on back to front and see how the band feels then

DD is a 28EE but it is very difficult to find them (esp in non glamour model styles!) so the fitter in JL said get 30E. They fit well, but it took her a while to get used to how tight the band was and it was actually a size bigger than she needs IYSWIM!

Thanks all. I've ordered some size 30D from Debenhams to try. Can't believe I was so clueless! I'm going to measure me now, I might not be an A cup after all!

How very odd - I was wondering whether to start a thread on here about finding bras to fit growing girls, come downstairs and open laptop and bingo, there's one in Active.

It does sound to me as if your DD needs a 30" band and a D cup. My youngest was measured last week at a branch of Fenwicks as being a 28D and finding bras for her, even in a specialist department, was really hard: she ended up with one very dull bra and is moaning about how tight the band is, though I could see when she was fitted that it was the right size. We had a hunt for 30Cs and had no joy, oddly. May have to order a couple.

Angelica, be prepared to go through about 1,000 bras in the next few years. One of my DDs went through a cup size about every 4-6 months for several years. It cost a bloody fortune as she has an extremely narrow back and the tittage of a topless model. Luckily she likes them: it would be awful if she didn't.

If anybody has any tips about bras for girls/young women with 28 and 30" chests and D-FF cups, PLEASE let me know!

Debenhams is quite good for smaller band sizes. I wear either 28DD or 30C/D and find that I do quite well in the Debenhams sale. Also is your DD measuring 34 inches when bent over at right angles,my guess is that it might be a bit more which would increase the cup size further. Bravissimo might also be worth a try, but a bit pricey.

MehsMum if it's any comfort it's actually easier above a D cup! 28C has been described as the rocking horse poo of the bra world!

I always thought you added 4" if under busy measurement even, 5" if odd. So 30"= 34.

Then 4" difference= AA cup, and every inch more than that = an extra cup size.

So your dd is a 34AA?

You need to get her in a 34" / small cup size. No way is she a 30D! To be that she'd have to be TINY, ie 25/26 under bust then 34" over bust.

Anyone know if it is possible to buy 24 or 26 inch band bras?

DD will be fine in a crop top for some time to come. But she measures 24B (and so could probably wear 26A) and really can't wait for 'proper' bra. Is there anything out there likely to fit, or will I need to continue to tel, her to wait until she's grown to a 28 band?

In today's world of Lycra type materials you don't need to add inches. The band. Size is the actual size you measure under bust.

Mmeh I used that method when I first started bra fitting and every measurement I came out with, when I tried the customer in that actual size, did not fit at all.

A 30D wouldn't be that big a size, a D cup is quite small really especially with a small back size. An 11 year old to be in a 34inch back sounds very wrong. I wear a 34 inch back and I'm a size 16/18 and 5'8.

Bigtillymint I don't think there's such a thing as a EE cup? It jumps straight from E to F. So if you've tried a 30E a 28 back would be 28F.

Unfortunately 28inch backs are like gold dust, no where seems to do them at all!

I do wonder why a 28 back is so hard to get hold of, I wear a 30G and am not at all skinny, what the hell do all the terribly skinny celebrities wear if its so hard to get back sizes smaller than 30"?

They have money and can buy custom bras!
