Steam Cream in Tesco

Justgotosleepnow · 28/08/2014 21:32

Hi I read about Steam Cream on here a few months ago. But I didn't buy from the internet as didn't want to pay shipping on another face/hand cream.

Well I saw it today in Tesco! £9.99 & lovely tin designs.

What's more lovely though is the fact how good it is! I have awful ezxema on my hands and behind my ears and it is loads better now after applying the cream this evening.

All the ingredients are well proper. And interestingly the first one (ie largest volume) is oats. Which is the active thing in Aveeno. But it's 8th on the list on Aveeno, after silicone.

I'm really hoping this stuff keeps working!
Thanks again mumsnet GrinThanks

Yeah mine is just a light lavender smell. I'm sure it shouldn't smell of petrol. It does only have a 6 month use by date. Maybe they are out of date?

Mine's two years old and still fine (I don't swim as often as I should!)

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 11/09/2014 13:35

Still no reply to my emailHmm

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 17/09/2014 08:48

STILL no replyHmm

I've just emailed again.

CecyHall · 17/09/2014 08:51

Has your tin got a best before date on it Dame?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 17/09/2014 09:08

Have they got a FB page or Twitter feed you could try?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 17/09/2014 09:33

I got a reply-that was quick!!Grin

They said possibly air got to it in the manufacturing process and they will send me another one, so I'll compare smells when it arrives. They said it absolutely shouldn't smell of petrol.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 17/09/2014 09:34

The use by date is April next year so well in date.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 17/09/2014 09:59

Hmm . Unless they are making it in some sort of vacuum it is likely to come in contact with air during manufacturing. Now it could have been made in a cleanroom with nice clean air, but it is exposed to air the minute you open the tin and it is supposedly protected by preservatives. So that doesn't really ring true. I would think a more likely source of contamination would be their water supply.

Anyway, glad they responded in the end, let us know what the new tin smells like.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 17/09/2014 11:21

Yeah, sounds suspect, doesn't it?Hmm

Just had another email, apparently they have no record of the batch number I gave so want to test it and want me to send it back, no mention of refunding postage but they might do later I suppose.

They said as I didn't buy it from their website they don't usually refund but they will this time as a gesture of good will.

Air getting to the supply? No record of batch number? I smell bollox all round to be honest. I do wish people wouldn't treat customers like they are wet behind the ears!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 17/09/2014 12:00

I had a quick look at their website and it does all sound a bit pseudo-sciencey. I'm not sure about the cosmetics industry and what the regulations / guidelines are but batch traceability just goes without saying, surely. Maybe it's a fake. It's good that they want to investigate further though - this is exactly the sort of thing I deal with in my work (scientific quality assurance). Ask if you can be kept informed of the outcome, they probably won't want to, but it would be interesting. Although best not to put it on here!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 17/09/2014 12:11

I don't think its a fake, others on this thread have had similar issues and bought from different outlets. I think its a manufacturing issue and they're covering their tracks.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 17/09/2014 13:03

True, I hadn't read back up the thread recently. To be honest, the stuff on their website about making it in a kitchen doesn't fill me with confidence. I'm no expert in emulsions either but the steam process thing does sound a bit far fetched.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 17/09/2014 14:18

They make it in a kitchen?Shock

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 17/09/2014 14:33

It must be a massive kitchen if they supply to tesco...

DownWithDaddyLongLegs · 17/09/2014 21:32

I'm a bit surprised to read about this in my mumsnet email. They include perfume in their list of ingredients, when they finally give the list, after talking in details about all the lurverly natural stuff in their cream. Not saying it doesn't work for some people, but I'm a bit surprised that it appears in my in box as a great recommendation after reading this thread.
Still, the tins look cool.

MegMogandOwlToo · 17/09/2014 21:38

I believe it's made by the same people who make lush, they're hardly known for product consistency, so it's likely it was contaminated during the handmade manufacturing process.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 17/09/2014 21:50

Down-I thought the sameHmm

I didn't know they were Lush people.

Actually I'm going to email and ask for a stamped addressed jiffy bag-if they want it back I'm not dragging myself off to the shops and the post office!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 18/09/2014 18:34

I re read the rnail, they say they haven't had any issues with that batch NOT they haven't any record of that batch-that'll teach me to skim readHmm

Fozzleyplum · 18/09/2014 22:38

I swear by Steam Cream, which I read about on Mumsnet. I had very persistent eczema on my eyelids for over a year, but as soon as I started using Steam Cream, the eczema disappeared and hasn't come back.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 02/10/2014 13:33

They emailed me, they agreed it smelled funny and they'll replace it, hope they'll refund postage too as it was nearly 3 quid to send back.

I hope the replacement smells ok!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/10/2014 12:42

Update-the replacement arrived, it just smells of lavender and so obviously the other one was faulty. No refund of postage. Not overly impressed by their customer service tbhHmm
