Help needed for glamourous wedding abroad

I'm a long time lurker, occasional poster, and am desperately in need of some help for a wedding I'm going to in Greece at the end of August. It will be v stylish, but of course very hot. The wedding is on the beach and the party at a hotel. There is no specific dress code, but I know guests will have made a real effort (think trendy, stylish media types).

I'm 5'10", size 12. Usually quite pale, but a bit more tanned now, and hopefully a bit more so after a few days on the beach in Greece. I generally don't like my tummy area, and am thinking that my usual weapon of control knickers are going to be waaay too hot. I also don't like my upper arm/shoulder area, so don't generally go for strapless/sleeveless tops. Budget around £150.

I like this www.johnlewis.com/ghost-mcwilliams-crepe-dress/p1520388 and think it would look OK on me, but any further suggestions very gratefully received.

These are pretty - remember that you'll want either wedged or flat shoes.

I know you want sleeves but you'll be so hot, I'd get something you can take off rather than a long sleeved dress

www.johnlewis.com/ariella-charlotte-satin-back-crepe-lace-dress-champagne/p1151458 I love this!

MrsLettuce · 14/08/2014 16:25

The ghost dress is very pretty OP, lovely! Maybe not so 'think trendy, stylish media types' though.

How about this?
this?
this?

Would you consider a long dress?

MrsLettuce · 14/08/2014 16:32

That said, something along the lines of this? would certainly give the necessary cosmopolitan twist to that beautiful little ghost dress.

ppeatfruit · 14/08/2014 16:33

Sorry can't do links but I would think vintage (there's lots on line if you google them) or dress agencies where you can pick up pure silk and or linen designer clothes .Good idea to have a cover up against the sun !! Also a hat for the same reason unless there's good shade For the ceremony.

ppeatfruit · 14/08/2014 16:39

Sorry I didn't explain about the dress agencies they're mainly in posh areas of towns and sell 2nd hand bit worn once or twice and as I said are often real designer clothes. Dh is a media type and I've always felt good in clothes from the agencies I hate spending big bucks on new stuff which is never the same quality Grin

ppeatfruit · 14/08/2014 16:40

No I didn't mean a 'bit' worn.I meant but worn once or twice !!

MrsLettuce · 14/08/2014 16:40

Dress agencies are indeed fab. Charity shops in posh areas are not to be sniffed at either.

But, yeah, for myself I'd want a long sleeved maxi and a wide brimmed hat for a beach wedding.

MrsLettuce · 14/08/2014 16:42

(not because I feel that that's 'what one should wear' but because I'd not survive all day in the sun in a wee dress)

I think out of all the ones suggested that Ghost dress in your OP seems the most suitable. It's 100% viscose though so you'll probably be very sweaty.

I agree about maybe renting something.
How about this or this?

Alternatively, this one and this one are 100% silk. You can search by fabric on the JL website IIC.

ppeatfruit · 14/08/2014 17:01

tethersend · 14/08/2014 17:04

Could you do a 10?

Stoneysilence · 14/08/2014 17:06

Dress agencies - have you thought of looking on www.girlmeetsdress.com/?

Only thing is you're going abroad so might not be able to borrow the dress for long enough.

MrsLettuce · 14/08/2014 17:21

this isslightly over budget but down from double that. Quite similar in cut to the ghost dress. two left

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 14/08/2014 17:39

Try Matches Fashion. Fab service - it all turns up in a glossy box and you can get a courier to collect it if you need to return it, free of charge.

Cotton but you would need to see permission from the bride given the colour I think

I thought this was fantastic - in pink too but it's wool Sad

www.matchesfashion.com/product/187802
Utterly blows the budget but is silk, elegant and fits the design brief

EmpireBiscuit · 14/08/2014 19:20

tethersend that Marlene birger dress is to die for - just what I was looking for a weed don I have in France. Sadly it's out of stock in my size.

upto11 · 14/08/2014 20:34

Wow! Thank you all so much. Sorry it's taken me so long to come back - work and children getting in the way of important fashion choices.

I love the idea of a maxi dress, but always think I look like a bit of a giant tent in them. Is this true of tall people do you think?

Boden dress is lovely, but my boobs are on the large side - do you think this would look all wrong on me?

Matches dresses I love. The Stella one is just gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous, but sadly beyond my budget.

Loving the Reiss dress too, not sure i could squish into a 10 unfortunately, but may order and try on.

Miss HC - yes I had thought that too about the viscose. Hmmm thought needed.
