Help needed for glamourous wedding abroad

I'm a long time lurker, occasional poster, and am desperately in need of some help for a wedding I'm going to in Greece at the end of August. It will be v stylish, but of course very hot. The wedding is on the beach and the party at a hotel. There is no specific dress code, but I know guests will have made a real effort (think trendy, stylish media types).

I'm 5'10", size 12. Usually quite pale, but a bit more tanned now, and hopefully a bit more so after a few days on the beach in Greece. I generally don't like my tummy area, and am thinking that my usual weapon of control knickers are going to be waaay too hot. I also don't like my upper arm/shoulder area, so don't generally go for strapless/sleeveless tops. Budget around £150.

I like this www.johnlewis.com/ghost-mcwilliams-crepe-dress/p1520388 and think it would look OK on me, but any further suggestions very gratefully received.

Very true waswondering. I haven't bought much from boden in the past. Do you think that I would need a 12R of a 12L at 5'10''?

Arghh. Really love that atheists dress, but pretty sure a 10 in Reiss is pushing it A LOT. May have to nip into town tomorrow to see if there's one in store.

Or reiss dress even. I wonder what an atheists dress would look like?

The Ghost dress is lovely, but probably does need a tan so you're not the same colour as the dress.

DO NOT WEAR A FASCINATOR OR ANY HAT OR ANYTHING MORE THAN A PRETTY COMB IN YOUR HAIR FOR A BEACH WEDDING. I cannot stress that enough. I think hats and fascinators look pretty ropey at UK church/stately home weddings, you will look ridiculous on a Greek beach.

UML · 14/08/2014 21:06

You need something in silk chiffon - so it looks cool and breezy on the beach but nice enough for a party at a hotel...

UML · 14/08/2014 21:07

Maybe have a look on notonthehighstreet.com

upto11 · 14/08/2014 21:25

Hermione - dont worry, I look ridiculous in hats so there will be no headwear of any kind.

On the phone now but Jaeger is worth a look. Beautiful fabrics and they always do a decent sale.

mrslettuce that bird is beautiful. Bookmarked in case I get an invite to anything !

peasandlove · 15/08/2014 08:54

asos has wiggle dresses that cover all the bits you want, will be long enough as well, here is one wiggle dress

HermioneWeasley · 15/08/2014 09:14

Phew!

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 15/08/2014 10:22

Boden reviews suggest some 5.5-6 is a regular, I'd just get a long unless you like stuff super short! Grin

MrsSkinnyLegs · 15/08/2014 10:35

An Issa kaftan or poncho. They're so beautiful, made from silk and very airy. Plus, perfect with flip-flops so beach-friendly. Have a look online at their sale stock or eBay for more purse-friendly options!

Pimmpom · 15/08/2014 10:36

and it's linen/cotton Smile

upto11 · 15/08/2014 10:59

Have ordered 2 x pink flowery print Boden dress, 1 x size 10 Reiss dress (wishful thinking I fear), 1 x Ghost and 1 x Hobbs (thank you Pimmpom). Fingers crossed one of them works.

Off to check out Issa kaftan now.

Will let you know which one I eventually go for. Thank you all so much for your help - I couldn't have done it without you.

Very exciting - hope you love one of them xx

tethersend · 15/08/2014 11:38

Reiss sizing is supposed to be on the larger side, so good luck Smile

MrsLettuce · 15/08/2014 12:00

issa kaftan is going to be way, way over budget. Was lusting at this one yesterday but was too far over budget to link.

HappyGirlNow · 15/08/2014 12:31

Viscose is breathable like cotton....

upto11 · 15/08/2014 13:29

Aye carumba. Yes, over budget for me unfortunately. May try ebay though.

Not the most exciting but it is silk, and if you had black sandals and a really bright bag eg: turquoise, orange it would give it some pop
