Charity shop verdict: the ones in Molly's manor have much posher clothes (including Ghost)...but it's still v much luck of the draw.Wink

Knackered. DP cooking. Will open bottle of holiday Cremant in front of Dr Who.

bigTillyMint · 23/08/2014 20:31

Am wishing we had gone to France en vacances (CremantEnvy)

CointreauVersial · 23/08/2014 21:02

We have been bathroom shopping today - a small windfall means that doing up the DC's bathroom is finally on the horizon. There is far too much choice out there, particularly around taps. I cannot get excited about a tap.

I'm off to Property/DIY to solicit opinions on various aspects....

Rosebag · 23/08/2014 21:14

Any time NU!

Good luck to all crepeys waving off DCs to uni!! when we took DS1 to Leeds ( gosh, eight yrs ago) we drove to his hall. He didn't wants us around after the initial unloading so we made a weekend of it and stayed in a posh city centre hotel and saw a play at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. Guess I will have this all again in two years time with DS2.

We have missed out on DR Who although DS says he'll try and stream it or something.

Am round the pool, again having had various contretemps with the family about sight seeing....I am sticking to my guns. It's 82 degrees with a lovely breeze. Why would anyone want to go schlepping around tourist sights? dS is not impressed. He's going downtown on his own. Good riddance, I say.
On a style and beauty note......I am the fattest person here. At times like this, having always been an hourglass, I find myself wishing that I was an apple. Analyse that!

originalpiratematerial · 23/08/2014 21:20

Helloooooo honeys I'm home! Just marking my place - will try and catch up anon...

Blackduck · 23/08/2014 21:22

The bathroom is three quarters tiled and the bath is at least in the right room - if not functioning...
Dp and I keep looking at it and sighing... So wanting to get home to it finished, but on a plus it looks like we have made good choices (including taps CV) and it will look fab when complete...
Watched half of Dr Who - loved it - dp hated it... But he's not keen.
Early night and curry lunch beckons :)

bigTillyMint · 23/08/2014 22:05

What, CV, our opinions not good enough?! BD is a bathroom expert!

Rose, I am so impressed with your DS - off downtown on his own to see the sights!

BD, sympathies. When do you think it will be done?

We are planning to cycle up your way tomorrow OPM/Herbs - brunch in Vic park/Hackney vill, just DH and ISmile

NUFC69 · 23/08/2014 22:11

I used to love Dr Who (I remember watching the very first episode in my teens) and was devastated when it went off air. Unfortunately I just can't get into it since it came back which is odd because I am a big scifi fantasy fan. I actually have a much thumbed falling apart paperback copy of the very first adventure.

bigTillyMint · 23/08/2014 22:14

Just thinking of you, CV, as I attempt to dye DD's floor cushion cover in the washing machine...

lalsy · 23/08/2014 22:36

Hey, crepeys, back from holiday near where you went Herbs! WAF, have you family there?

Will catch up properly tomorrow, but Molly that is good news.

MollyAir · 23/08/2014 23:23

Thanks, lalsy. His new uni helped us a lot with the decision-making and tranferring, so we are impressed with them and very slightly in love with his Head of Department or whatever he's called, mmm, dreamy looker on YouTube

There are loads of threads on bathrooms in Property. I bookmark half of them. We have to do ours once ds is off our hands, groan.

lalsy · 23/08/2014 23:57

Sounds good Molly Smile.

MI, very sorry to hear about your dm and hope the uncertainty doesn't last too long and you get some good news then.

Stropps, that's brilliant news after all the tough times. And well done all the other GCSE-takers too. I think at this point as there is so much emotion and hormones/so many myths/so much uncertainty about their future swilling around all at once, it is hard to make sense of anything.

Managed to argue with everyone within an hour of getting back. Boo.

MollyAir · 24/08/2014 00:09

Bad luck with the arguing, lalsy, you need to recover from your holiday now. I think return from holidays is generally recognised now as a stress factor. We were in Iceland this time last year; thank God it wasn't this year, I would've been very worried about the volcano. I might've tried to get the RAF to rescue us (HRH William, perhaps?) from imminent danger of death etc.

NUFC, I seem to be the same about Dr Who; I can't get into the new version at all, though the rest of the family are huge fans. I am resistant to change though, especially with that kind of thing. Cybermen should still be made of tinfoil and old toilet roll middles.

NUFC69 · 24/08/2014 06:32

Molly, Grin that brings ip a lovely image. My DSiL dropped out of his first uni course as it wasn't right for him. I think it's a very sensible thing to do: he has never looked back. It is good that the new people are being supportive.

Cold morning here but we're hoping to get out for a bike ride after breakfast. DD and the children are coming later as her DH is away for the day at a reunion and she thinks she will need a little bit of adult company.

Blackduck · 24/08/2014 07:12

I walked out of my first Uni choice (LSE no less) as it was so wrong for me.... Took a year off and then went elsewhere.

BTM - end of the week I hope. It's just a bummer having a long weekend and no bathroom -once I'm back at work I only have to face it when twice a day :). Will post update photos later....

Lalsy sorry to hear about the arguments! Here ds took himself off to a mate, I unpacked and did laundry and dp went shopping....

bigTillyMint · 24/08/2014 08:42

Lalsy, I think in combination with jet-lag, I had the post-holiday-blues badly for a few days. I think arguing on return is to be expected. Well, it is in our house, anywayGrin

I have been very productive in terms of household stuff in the last few days - feeling pleased with myself!

Auriga · 24/08/2014 11:46

Herbs and MI, sympathy on grieving partners. MI, the people we sat next to at the RAH on Thurs had just heard their best friend had died in a boating accident Sad.

Molly, good news about your son. DH switched universities after a year and it worked out brilliantly for him. He had left it too late to talk to anyone but still got helped to find a course that suited him a lot better.

I was in a sleep-deprived frenzy by the time we left: suddenly seized with compulsion to clean the whole house including the oven Hmm probably anxiety-fuelled.

Good journey, managed my share of the driving with no panics. Lovely gite. We ate bread and cheese, I slept nine hours, had a cup of tea and slept another two and a half hours Grin

Programme for today:

  1. Lazing about
  2. Pottering a bit
  3. ...er, that's it.
cremolafoam · 24/08/2014 12:08

Morning crepeys, we have arrived back in Ireland and are driving north at present. Have organised a Sainsbury delivery for 4pm so dh has foot to floor. Dh inexplicably delighted to be on home turf( I'm the opposite and hate coming home.)
Dd is completely plugged into mariocart in the back seat.Confused

BD sorry about the bathroom sitch. Very disappointing ; I always feel I can't get properly clean except in my own bathroomWink I have no idea how you choose taps.

Rosebag hope you have a lovely holiday. Sounds like you've got the ground rules right.

The boot of the car is clinking alarmingly.Blush

CointreauVersial · 24/08/2014 13:52

Welcome back, holiday-makers. Lazy day here; have done nothing apart from eat bacon & eggs and soak in the bath (not at the same time).

Rosebag · 24/08/2014 15:46

cremo hope you got home ok....sounds like France was good and a much needed break for you all.
BD hang on in there re bathroom. It'll be worth it in the end as it sounds like the makings of a beautiful sanctuary. Can you go round to a mates house for a bath in the meanwhile? good luck also with your bathroom plans CV
molly what course is your DS transferring to? dS1 did music technology and I have to admit all the tutors were slightly long haired, ear ringed ex 1970s rockers whom I found most appealing and fanciable. Grin

lalsy sounds like my kinda programme....

Just waking up here in sunny Vancouver. dS came back from his mooch downtown yesterday in a much better mood. He needs his freedom as it must be difficult having had a month away without us and then being with us on a family holiday. It also turns out that he was very upset to have missed being on the school GCSEs role of honour posted on the schools Facebook page, by one A. I do wish schools wouldn't do this. What does it achieve? We spent time with him telling him (again) how proud we are and all this on line boasting means very little. We also gave him a small money present which seemed to cheer him up no end. He came back to the pool, and then we ended the day in the magnificent Stanley Park, had dinner at the hotel and then dS and DH watched Dr Who...on the iPad ( don't ask me how....) sharing a set of headphones...

Today we will take the harbour walk to the beaches, spend more time at the pool and tonight we've tickets to see Shrek The Musical Hmm in the open air theatre back in Stanley Park.

Ps we argue all through the preparation for holidays, through the holiday itself and presumably when we get back too....

NUFC69 · 24/08/2014 16:56

Welcome home, Crem. I hope you feel really rested now and ready to face the world again.

I hope that you have enjoyed your lazy day, Auriga.

We did almost 14 miles on the bikes this morning: it really was lovely. We saw a group of cyclists from a pub jn Byker who were cycling to Tynemouth for charity - all ages and abilities and two of them even riding
modern day versions of penny farthings!

herbaceous · 24/08/2014 19:10

What ho, crepeys. We are returned from the West, having stopped off overnight with some friends in Bristol. V nice, Bristol. On my list of 'possible places to move to'. I shall consult Right Move shortly.

Tenby thoroughly lovely - like Cornwall, but 20 years ago. In good ways and bad. The bad being the scary pubs and shops selling dreamcatchers and sarongs. The good being much cheaper, and fewer braying poshos.

Another lesson: four castles in one week is one too many. Caerphilly, on the way home, broke the camel's back.

I have given my lurgy to DP. He had been planning on going out Wednesday night, which would have scuppered my crepey meeting plans, but reckons he's going to cancel due to imminent death.

We haven't argued before, during or after the holiday. But then we don't tend to, preferring to seethe inwardly.

BTM, hope you enjoyed your trip to Vic Park. I love it there. Nearly bought a flat, back in the days when it was affordable. And am going there on Sunday to meet friends, and have huge lunch at the People's Pub.

bigTillyMint · 24/08/2014 19:21

Welcome home Herbs! We had a lovely cycle up to Vic Park, but as the café was mobbed, had brunch in Elbows(?) And then we went to see Boyhood this afternoon which I really, really enjoyed.
Glad to hear your DP is getting the manfulWink

We all argue a lot - we don't sulk or seethe inwardly! but actually there was a lot less arguing on hol than there could have been!

Rose, good on you for not letting your DS feel a failure

DD says she is going to burn her Chemistry revision stuff when she gets back from the PIL!

bigTillyMint · 24/08/2014 19:22

Oh and Bristol is one of the rare places we would consider too. But probably only if it was Clifton village...

Rosebag · 24/08/2014 20:27

Thanks Tilly We are giving DS lots of validation and support. I am upset with the school. It's the same with the a levels. They only listed the Oxbridge entries...
Welcome home to herbs

We have just got back from a lovely long walk to the English Bay. Walking always stops arguments in their tracks with us for some reason. Now back to the pool. Even managed to find a couple of free sunbeds...surprising as we are later than previous days. I refuse to let the family do the towels on sunbed reservation malarkey. I hate that.
