Am I too old for this skirt? London buses print!

I'm 38. I think I know its wrong. Any thoughts please?
skirt

Ideally I'd wear a 50s shape, just below knee in a grown up print. Any ideas? I'm a horribly wobbly 16/18. I'm wearing lots of white stuff skirts. The prints are fun and they come in big sizes but hangy A-line shape is wrong on me. I look pregnant. V embarrassing.

Grateful for any help. Thanks

A few of the mums at school wear these. They look nice enough. I think the secret is keep the too plain and fitted not loose at all.

OscarWinningActress · 07/08/2014 22:24

The shape is nice but the fabric would be better suited to a two-year old's nursery curtains, I think.

OneLittleLady · 07/08/2014 22:26

I would wear it and I don't care what anyone else would think!

5madthings · 07/08/2014 22:27

My three year old dd has a dress with a very similar print on it.

If you like it then try it, I agree a plain top to go with it.

It looks a bit shapeless in the link though which would put me off.

MrsLettuce · 07/08/2014 22:28

Poppy do some great skirts to a 16. Not sure on the sizing.

Have you looked at GetCutie?

MrsLettuce · 07/08/2014 22:30

this is nice

NoArmaniNoPunani · 07/08/2014 22:31

I think you're too young for it.

MrsLettuce · 07/08/2014 22:32

Sorry, didn't check the sizing Blush

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/08/2014 22:32

I'd wear it BUT the problem with the CK ones is that they are so gathered that they add masses of bulk. I'm pretty slim (10/12) but they make me look huge, so I don't buy them even though I really like some of the prints.

hoboken · 07/08/2014 22:36

I would wear this if in stretch fabric, made up into a tube skirt below the knee. I'm 61. (Too old to rock 'n roll...)

SinglePringle · 07/08/2014 22:37

Honestly, anyone over the age of 5 is too old for it.

Softlysoftlycatchymonkey · 07/08/2014 22:37

Wear it! It's lovely!

Elswyth · 07/08/2014 22:47

I knew it would be CK before I clicked on the thread!

I love the CK skirts and have a few, and they're actually great quality. The length and fir suits me (in my mind at least Grin). I've just bought the autumn bloom skirt (will try to link) which is probably safe and boring. The lurex sweatshirts I'm thinking of buying too, but want to go and try on first.

I think some of the current prints are very 'toddler clothes for adults' but I think the London bus print is about the best of them and you might be able to carry it off.

Elswyth · 07/08/2014 22:48

I agree with Helpme. Keep the top simple and plain. It might work.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 07/08/2014 22:51

If you suit that shape of skirt it's fine - I can't wear anything bunched around the waist as it makes me look fat around the middle (I'm a size 12).
Have you tried pencil skirts?

Drywhiteplease · 07/08/2014 22:52

OP...doesn't sound as if you're convinced really. And whatever we say you need to feel comfortable in it. I think it looks unflattering.

Floisme · 07/08/2014 22:54

If it was Bertie The Bus even I might draw the line but that looks fine - as long as you don't wear it with pigtails.

minkah · 07/08/2014 22:55

Definitely not too old for it. It'd be good on someone of eight, or eighty, it's timeless.

Just make sure everything you wear with it is very simple. No fussiness or over accessorising.

Enjoy it!

TheFillyjonk · 07/08/2014 23:00

You're not too old for it! I'm 27 and I'd consider that style of printed skirt too old for me. To be honest it's a wee bit frumpy. If you like the print, you could maybe get a scarf?

tigerdriverII · 07/08/2014 23:01

I love the fabric but the shape of the skirt with all that gathering and an elasticated waist is v unflattering. What's age got to do with it?

loaderloader · 07/08/2014 23:04

Thanks for the feedback.

I did wonder if the gathers were too bulky.

I love the Poppy skirts link thanks! I am pretty sure I saw these last year in a shop in London but haven't been able to remember the brand. They were beautiful . Thanks so much. Hmm.. Wonder if I can do a size 16?!

Love the Get Cutie idea as well.

Glad I posted.

My standard winter look used to be black tights and boots, black fitted top and funky skirt. It wasnt ever trendy but was flattering. I've morphed into frumpy mummsy style. I think I'll try Get Cutie.

Ah well. My son would have thought I looked great!

All depends on how you feel about kitsch? I like its mock-retro look and think it could be fun to wear. Share concerns though about elasticated waists.
