Chopping all my hair off...

I'm feeling in need of a change, so this week I've decided to go from my past-shoulder-length hair, to next to nothing (something like the picture, but darker hair).

I have a long neck so I'm hoping to be able to pull it off, but have no idea about styling or even what cut I'm asking for.

My hair is curly/wavy and I don't want it shaved or shaped too severely.

Does anyone have any tips and more importantly, what cut am I asking for?!

I did it, too! 2 weeks ago I went from mid-back to chin length. My hair is curly so my stylist put in some layering in the back and a bit longer with fringe in the front. I love it! I finally have 'wash and wear' hair after years of curlers, flat irons, & blow outs.

Congratulations!!

Looks fab!

It's definitely worth finding an accessory shop around and investing in a load of headbands, they make the bad hair days much easier I used to use the big thick 60's style ones, and the 50s style fabric tie ones can look really cute if you're that sort of person.

Luckily I'd just bought a fabric band, thinking it would do as a partial hat in the hot weather :o

I will accessorise!

Did you get a shock when you looked in the mirror this morning? I always do if I go for a radical change of hair!

:) yes I did. And it made me :o

I still love it. And it looks great straight out of bed too, messy and grungy.

Best haircut ever.

Looks fab! I did the same a couple of months ago. Not quite mastered the bed head look in the morning - washing it every day, but only takes 3-4 mins to dry Grin

Be prepared for it feeling 'long' in about two weeks!

Yellow :o

I am a bit worried about the in-between bit, but as my hairdresser said, the first cut it always a test cut, she's happy to go even shorter (and to do that for free in the next few days if that's what I want) to lengthen the time between cuts, and see how my hair behaves (it kicks out randomly). She really inspired confidence.

I'm hoping I can manage to still wash it every other day, but I'm not sure this morning counts, since it was styled last night.

It was my first time with the stylist who cut mine and I was so pleased with it. Next time I had the stylist who gives student discount and I was a bit 'meh' afterwards - it wasn't quite the same, and of course there wasn't the wow factor you get from a drastic cut. Still pleased with it though, but yet to find gel/clay/putty that properly holds the definition in my fringe.

You will find you want to go a bit shorter I reckon.

FuckYouChris your hair looks lovely. I love short hair but I am 3 stone a smidge over my ideal weight at the moment and without hair my head looks ridiculously tiny in comparison. I'm looking forward to going short again soon.

Also, I've just spent most of the past 12 hours reading your horse threads. So glad the horses got gone Grin. And I must commend you on your excellent thread hosting skills - you were so lovely and good at acknowledging posters, it was a joy to behold. I hope you're currently frolicking through your meadow in a gingham dress with your cute but edgy hair Thanks

Taxi :o thank you kindly. There's frolicking aplenty!

Coco, I think I've been really lucky with her, I think you might be right.

Yellow, there's a definite wow when it all goes, watching all my hair being swept away was an interesting experience. Never thought I'd be excited by a hair cut!

It looks absolutely fab! Would love to do it myself but I have a giant forhead and I NEED a full fringe.
