Those pyjama kinda trousers!

Not sure of proper name! Keen to try a pair before the summer ends! Tried a pair in new look, but they were horrendous on me! Willing to try again though if anyone can link to a nice pair.

  • quite tall, about 5 ft 8
  • a good size 14 in trousers, large of hip and thigh
  • would like a nice pattern, but nothing TOO wild!
  • preferably navy or black based, but really not essential

Ideally less than £30 as probably a fashion item, rather than classic.

Also, some styling tips would be good. Don't really like closely fitting t shirts or vests as I need to disguise my tummy!

Thank you so much!Thanks

Sorry but they are just not made for us, I bet everyone you see looking nice in them is petite? I am same height/size as you and I just look stupid in them.

lemonbiscuit · 05/08/2014 20:39

I bought some hareem pants in Next and I think they have some in the new season catalogue. they are really comfy and cost about £22. My husband does say they look like I am wearing pyjama bottoms though!

GiveTwoSheets · 05/08/2014 20:46

I knew what you where talking about from your thread title as my sister asked me why I was wearing pjs out!

I was going to suggested new look as that's where I got mine from but have a look on H&M.

GiveTwoSheets · 05/08/2014 20:51

I wear something like this with them, top looks better in RL than photo

I'm a 12 in trousers and also large of thigh and bottom. I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole - I know they'll make me look wide and dumpy, and cling to all the lumps. No no no.

busywifey · 05/08/2014 20:59

I got a fab pair from Next, black Base with a blue pattern. Wasn't sure to start with and didn't try them on is shop as I'm lazy! They are now my favourite pair of trousers, so comfy but fashionable also. I am 5ft4 and size 16 btw.

Only1scoop · 05/08/2014 21:01

I just think they look awful on everyone. Even my friend who is an extremely toned size 10.

Everything jiggles in them a little much Blush

scrivette · 05/08/2014 21:04

I was thinking today how unflattering they are, although Next do a pair that aren't too bad as they are navy blue with a white spot/flower on them. However, they still look like pyjamas!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/08/2014 21:31

I've got these Warehouse ones but they are neater than some of the monstrous pj ones out there. They are quite flattering, but need heels (NOT like those in the link!) to make them look nice.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/08/2014 21:41

I like the Warehouse ones because they are cotton; most of them are polyester or viscose.

Greengardenpixie · 05/08/2014 21:44

I tried on the next ones and they were horrible on me. These are not as baggy at the top and are like the other post said about the warehouse ones, neater. They are tapered rather than harem

salonmeblowy · 05/08/2014 22:09

£12.99 from H&M.

They are actually maternity trousers, but supremely comfortable and look good in a cheap, on-trend way. Surely the point of this particular trend is to look slightly tacky?

I'm 5'10" and a 10 with a 20 week bump. I wear them with a loose black t-shirt with a v-neck.

Real mix of opinions!

Well I have gone ahead and ordered the next ones, free returns to store so no harm done and I'll be able to satisfy my curiosity if nothing else!

Fed up of being too warm in jeans, but feel silly in skirts and dresses.

I agree with the topshop ones, I have a black and greige tile pair and they are so lovely. Everyone comments on them when I wear them and they are so soft and silky.

Fcukfifa · 05/08/2014 22:21

Mind you I'm quite hippyish anyway so no one bats an eye to whatever I wear

smoothieooo · 06/08/2014 12:47

Shy I bought the ones from New Look at the weekend and was asked by DS2 why I was wearing weird looking jogging bottoms. They went back for a refund the next day.

I'd quite like some but would rather they were a plain colour (black, silk if possible) but haven't found any that look remotely flattering.

OatcakeCravings · 06/08/2014 12:59

I have 8 pairs Blush

I have worn them all summer and I love them, though I bought 2 or 3 pairs last year from ASOS, I didn't buy them all this summer! The rest of mine are from NEXT. I think that I might spend the rest of my life in them!

rootypig · 06/08/2014 13:03

Are you referring to the formal jogger?! Grin

These ones from Topshop are really flattering, with the stripe down the side. They're also a decent fabric, hard to describe but you don't want anything too soft or cottony, as it will collapse into pajamas proper territory, and you don't want too satiny, as the creases are dire. These are matte and without stretch (apart from in waist and ankle).

These are also brilliant, and in the sale.

rootypig · 06/08/2014 13:04

Styling tip: they are more flattering if you cuff them slightly (at the ankle).

Notonaschoolnight · 06/08/2014 13:13

Nice ones in sainsburys

TheJourney22 · 06/08/2014 13:15

Don't know where you live but The Forge Boutique have 3x shops, Wendover, Berkhampstead & Gerrards Cross .... Sell very reasonable hareems! I have plain & patterned ones ... Love them :))

LightastheBreeze · 06/08/2014 16:05

I ordered these from Boden, they were a bit big on me though as I am a small size 14 so I had to return them

Boho trousers

IfUSeekAmy · 08/08/2014 20:24

The Forge Boutique you say? I'm very near Gerrards Cross. I may have to make a special trip to pop in for a browse now!

waitingforgodot · 08/08/2014 21:15

I got some black and beige ones from Primark with ankle cuff. DH asked me if I had changed into my pjs!
They are sooo comfy. I wear with black vest and birkenstocks
