isit I have ** scarlet too (jewel winter as well). I had a red coat that's biting the dust but I loved it as cheered up a winter day. I've bought a batwing top from kettlewell also in the sale partly as I find the bright colours harder to find good matches for.
Finding the cooler weather disappointing as I was enjoying shorts or skirt and tshirts (summer hols for me). Back to jeans, navy converse, I've blue t and royal purple cardi. Not enjoying the look so much but think it's style faults rather than colours...
Are certain cardi shapes better for each style? Is a crew neck more classic? Ingenue; what'd that need? Had a black waterfall front one with shorter back but a thread is pulled so it's mending pile! I do love a jacket but feel like I'm meant to remove it if indoors?!

fooogle · 17/08/2014 13:35

Sorry, terrible lack of punctuation and sensible grammar in last post Grin

IsItFridayYetPlease · 17/08/2014 13:41

I'm a gamine, so fitted cardis are better for me. I was told to steer clear of waterfalls, so I have lots of basic M&S crew necks and two boiled wool blazer type cardigans like this but different colours.

I rather like the look of this

fooogle · 17/08/2014 14:05

isit, links taking me to just the front page. I wonder if I've a bit of gamine in me but I'm 5'11'' with curly hair which both seem to be mutually exclusive to gamine-dom!!
I like a fitted cardi but also have a long body so sometimes they seem a bit short. Goodness what we do to dress our bodies eh?...

IsItFridayYetPlease · 17/08/2014 14:44

www.lauraashley.com/uk/cardigans/evergreen-boiled-lambswool-blazer/invt/cd422 - like this but other colours
www.lauraashley.com/uk/cardigans/red-cardigan-with-front-zip/invt/cd908 - like this one

Do these work?

IsItFridayYetPlease · 17/08/2014 14:45

Errr, obviously no!

ItHasANiceRingWhenYouLaugh · 17/08/2014 17:07

The links worked for me.

I also found this green cardi there.

IsItFridayYetPlease · 17/08/2014 17:16

That's strange, your link won't work for me ItHas !
I'm avoiding green, though, as I just can't take to it and it doesn't work too well with the colours I've already got.

MrPop · 17/08/2014 19:34

The chat about types of winter got me thinking and have just had a look at my 100% ** colours again - indigo, royal purple, royal blue, lobelia, fuchsia, raspberry, damson and carmine.

Not sure what type of winter that would make me??

Need to have a look for some of the pinker colours and carmine too.

ItHasANiceRingWhenYouLaugh · 17/08/2014 19:50

Sounds like my top colours and I'm a Jewel winter mainly.

fooogle · 17/08/2014 19:51

Mrpop I'm not sure, maybe another jewel? I don't know the others! Burnished, sultry (are they the same?), sprinter (apparently not same as jewel?)...

Went into john Lewis today and saw lots and lots of winter things, kin (one of their own brands) had forest green jumper (think it was, not hot swatches with me though), jaegar and whistles I think had lots of royal and electric blue and oasis concession loads if ice things and grey etc etc. Saw an ice blue cashmere jumper in jaeger. All this was window shopping though really. Mostly too pricey for my bargain hunting instincts.
I did buy a navy (perhaps indigo) trench from oasis reduced to £25 and a shirt from mango in v dark navy. Will try to link.

AuntySib · 17/08/2014 19:57

Just found this link on another thread : www.collegefashion.net/fashion-tips/how-to-find-your-perfect-colors/
Might be useful for some of you.

fooogle · 17/08/2014 20:07

Think they were sale dregs as can't find pics to post! Was amazed by how much winter stuff I saw Grin.

MissScatterbrain · 17/08/2014 20:25

Mr Pop - sounds like jewel winter which I think sits in the middle of the season.

Sultry (or deep or dark) & burnished are not the same.

Sprinter is closest to Spring so is a bit different from jewels.

There are often overlaps and some people straddle between types. Basically we can wear all of the colours in our palette but the types tell us how best to use the colours.

Have seen this link (or similar) but many of us do not conform to these types e,g my colouring does not match their profile for a deep winter and like Queen there are blonde winters. Hair/eye colours do not determine your season - its all in the skin although wearing the right colours will help enhance your eyes/hair. This is why so many people who try and self diagnose get it wrong.

NigellasGuest · 17/08/2014 21:26

MissScatterbrain thanks for asking what my ** colours are..... I actually do not officially know.

The consultant told me I was a winter and that No.62 lipstick suited me, also No. 28 (both of which I bought, plus another one but I can no longer read the number, it's faded off).

I would say black is a really good colour on me, DH loves it, and also when I try a top on in a selection of colours it is always the black version that makes my face come alive a bit.

People comment positively if I wear a fushia blouse (although I don't like the colour really TBH) or emerald shirt, or another shirt of a certain purple shade.

I have blue eyes, cool skin tone I believe, and blonde highlights.
I think I'm a jewel!

QueenCardigan · 17/08/2014 21:41

foogle I love a crew neck and I'm an ingenue natural. I don't get on with v neck cardis at all but that's because my body shape is softly curved so doesn't suit v necks/ straight ones etc if that makes sense.

IsItFridayYetPlease · 17/08/2014 22:35

Your colouring sound very like me NigellasGuest. I'm a blue-eyed blonde, with cool, pale skin. But I bought 512 and 499 lipsticks. Everyone said the red looks best, but I feel more comfortable in the burgundy.

I'm very definitely a jewel winter. My consultant directed me to This to show me there can blonde winters.

fooogle · 18/08/2014 03:50

Thanks isit and queen for cardi tips. I guess eventually i ll do a style day so I can be armed with the info. Liked the jackets isit though I'm rubbish with wool on actual skin so made me realise I need something wool-less for now til I'm in only long sleeves as my top? I think I'm cold blooded though as am feeling the chill already now weathers turned! Hmm

MrPop · 18/08/2014 13:36

I have just bought this uniqlo jumper which looks like a good match for damson (20). I will report back.

Cardigal - I just had a look back at my winter leaflet given out at the colour day. ItHas has given you lots of advice but thought I would look at the colour combinations the book suggests, to see if it would offer any useful suggestions. It does say to go for a high contrast look which is actually something I rarely do, so need to give it a try myself!

charcoal woollen cardi/jacket worn with black trousers looks low contrast - suggests adding white or red or an ice colour or acid yellow

navy cardigan that works well with my navy/grey pencil skirt but also looks low contrast - suggests adding white / emerald / fuchsia / red / acid yellow / chinese blue

light grey pencil skirt that works with navy and grey but not the charcoal for some reason - suggests red or white or yellow

I haven't added burgundies or damson to my wardrobe because they don't work with my neutrals of navy/grey/black - they suggest wearing burgundy or damson with their ice colours (ice pink I guess), burgundy with royal and electric blue, magenta and shocking pink. Also with grey. And damson with acid yellow!

Think I will try to add a few more bright colours to my outfits. Currently am wearing dark blue jeans, navy t and grey cardigan so not very colourful. And that is my usual 'look'. How about the rest of you, do you manage to wear the bright colours every day? Maybe I need to get a bright belt or bag to make it a bit easier??

MissScatterbrain · 18/08/2014 13:44

Mr Pop - YY to accessories which includes bags, belts, scarves, shoes, jewellery and I would also look at nail polish & lipstick.

Currently wearing an ancient purple, white and grey patterned top with jeans and purple toe nails.

IsItFridayYetPlease · 18/08/2014 14:28

I was told I was very under-dressed at my style day. I was wearing my correct colours, but just two of them, no jewellery, scarf or finger/toe nail polish. It was a basic trousers and top combination, with no detail. Handbag and shoes were plain and same colour as my trousers. At least I was wearing my lipstick!

I'm working hard at accessorising to add extra colours, but need small, neat pieces, that are bit quirky (but not too much so!). Still struggling.

ItHasANiceRingWhenYouLaugh · 18/08/2014 15:18

Currently wearing the new Next emerald Cardigan (the vertical black stripe is very gamine [win ) over a fuschia/magenta top with black skinnies, and grey funky shoes. Silver hair slide, fine sliver necklace, big black specs, bright fuschia lip gloss.

It looks good, I think. Grin

NigellasGuest · 18/08/2014 15:35

Thank you for that IsItFriday - yes I am probably a jewel? Not sure I can cope with burgundy lipstick though.... I always feel my lips are too thin for really dark colours.

At my style day I was told I was underdressed as well- she liked my handbag as it had a bit of quirkiness and she liked my jeans and boots. I think my top was wrong though (I thought I was a summer)!

NigellasGuest · 18/08/2014 15:37

ItHasANiceRing that sounds nice - what sort of gamine are you?

MissScatterbrain · 18/08/2014 15:52

For colour combinations, I would recommend going on pinterest - there is a search box that you can type in e,g "burgundy" will bring up outfits that has this colour in them
