Ooops, sorry, I didn't mean to finish the thread.

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 07/08/2014 13:57

Blardy ell MI, what a mareAngry And for you MrsS too.

Just woken up again. We now have to pack up for the next leg of the adventure. Good job I only need arms/hands for packing - dunno how I'll be able to walk with a rucksack on my backConfused

herbaceous · 07/08/2014 14:14

I am in awe of your adventurousness, BTM. And dragging teens with you, too. Top marks.

On a positive note - and to redress the balance slightly against doctors' receptionists and passport office jobsworths - I just took the car to the garage to have its brakes fixed, to be told that they were fine, and had at least a year's wear left! When I had the car MOT'd at the dealership in January, they said they were 'unsatisfactory' and had to be fixed ASAP.

I know where I'll be getting the next MOT!

Rosebag · 07/08/2014 14:20

MI I am speechless. Agree re playing the race card. Or go to the press (sorry, you ARE the press Grin). I also wondered whether a lawyer might be able to help? Expensive though, I guess.
*MrsS I am also amazed at the barriers being put up by the GP system. We have faced this every time the kids need a doctors letter for a performance licence ( x2 annually) or a school journey. In fact I moved to another GP over the crap that went on over it, and the extortionate fees. Now we just make an appointment and nonchalantly say...would you just do height weight etc...and our new lovely GP prints it off while we're there or fills in a form by hand and outs the practice stamp on it. Good luck. I have nearly lost it many times over such matters.
Tilly you are amazing and put my lardy, slow family to great shame. Wishing you lots of quiet sit downs on lovely beaches for the rest of the hol.
NU your cousins plight makes me have sad memories of my first job, as a speech therapist on the neuro wards. So sorry for him but lovely of you all to make the gathering at his place. You probably know this but emotional lability is a feature of stroke, although a bereavement is an emotion time any way, of course. You sound like such a loving family. Thanks

My DS1 has a different surname to us and dual nationality. It always caused extra stares from the charming ( not) staff at the airport.

Currently lolling around at the flat after a very long, hot but beautiful walk. Never on BTM's level though!! dS2 called last night...he has lost his iPod on the beach....Hmm

motherinferior · 07/08/2014 14:25

Oddly enough I have just forwarded correspondence to lawyer friend...

MrsSchadenfreude · 07/08/2014 14:40

Have found local private GP who will do med cert for half the cost. Hurrah! And no need to schlep down to Surrey either. He said he spends a lot of his time doing this, as the NHS doctors either refuse to do it or charge a fortune. Think this is the way to go.

CV - DD2's school sort out dentist, orthodontist, doctor, anything and everything. DD1's school insists that dentist, orthodontist, anything routine is sorted out in holiday time.

MrsSchadenfreude · 07/08/2014 15:01

We are going to need another thread title soon...

motherinferior · 07/08/2014 15:05

Oh and talking of oversized school uniforms - DD2's age nine (9, ix) skirts swamp her. If I tighten the elastic as far as it'll go they'll just about fit round her without embarrassment but they are a distinctly over-modest length. She really is tiny.

motherinferior · 07/08/2014 15:07

August is a Crepey Month?

I do wonder if Dd2 will ever grow to a remotely normal size. And bear in mind my definition of 'normal' is other people's 'notorious shortarse'.

MrsSchadenfreude · 07/08/2014 15:10

She will possibly do what DD2 did, and have an enormous growth spurt at age 11-13. Two years ago she was a good head shorter than DD1, now she is taller. She grew six inches in her first year of secondary school.

NUFC69 · 07/08/2014 15:13

Rose, I think that speech therapy didn't start early enough with him, tbh. He had the stroke early December and I don't think the therapy started until the March. I don't think that his speech has altered between seeing him in April last year and now. Every time we went last year I went along in high hopes, but the improvement has stopped.

MrsS, glad to hear that you're sorted out now.

BTM, I now have visions of you crawling along pulling your rucksack behind you. Where next?

motherinferior · 07/08/2014 15:23

Yep: six inches and doubling her current bodyweight (I'm not exaggerating) would bring her into the small but adequate category. It worries her. Especially her lack of Chest. Wink I did point out that given her maternal genes she is likely to be Blessed with Chest in the long run...

beachyhead · 07/08/2014 15:31

MI, I hope the timing works out for you. Is there anyway you can collect? Or would that be far too confusing to explain!

dd1's Life drawing class is going well - the thought of 15 mostly girls between 16 and 18 yo, sitting around drawing a nekkid 25 year old ginger man! She decided she didn't want to draw 'that bit' so she scribbled it in Grin. She kept peeking around her easel and catching his eye which she found odd. Today they have a lady....she was hoping for a fat one! she's very into Lucien Freud.

BTM - you are indeed a star. Was the volcano worth climbing? Was there a view?

Did you organise it all independently or did a travel agent help? I wouldn't know where to start.

motherinferior · 07/08/2014 15:34

Beachy, she could have just hung out of my office window!

Ironically, the countersignatory friend has actually just been in Glasgow, stewarding at the commonwealth games...

MrsSchadenfreude · 07/08/2014 15:36

How about Crepeys Are A Wicked Bunch for a new thread title? Sort of pun on MI's earlier suggestion - or are we likely to have finished the next thread before the end of August?

Rosebag · 07/08/2014 18:48

Erm.... I think this is a YEEEEEEEHAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Thank you for submitting your proposal for Research and Development.

The Artistic Management Board discussed the various projects put forward and wanted to make sure that there were creative outlets for them all as far as possible. They can see the potential in the work you have done so far and would like you to develop your idea further for the Emerging Writers’ Week. The week will be taking on a slightly different form, with a range of activities, some full performances, rehearsed readings, extracts and more informal presentations, hopefully a mini festival of new writing.

Please let me know if you would like to follow up this opportunity. The Writers’ Workshop is available if you would like to use this space to develop your piece, where you can get regular input. It would be good for you to plan on showing a section in the October Platform.

Feel free to come and have a chat if you would like more information"

Here ds can ride a bike!!! Hooray!!!!

Auriga · 07/08/2014 19:18

Sorry to hear about passport woes, MI. Coincidentally, I've just had letter from the passport office & it seems someone's forged my signature on an application for a child's passport.

Unfortunately this probably means that someone is planning to take the child out of the country illegally. Not necessarily with the child's interests at heart.

And as for 'a quick phone-call to the counter-signatory', the forger had given false numbers for me, so if the passport office had phoned they'd have got someone impersonating me (this has been done before, for a different reason). There's a way of getting round the usual call-back precautions, which is also used in bank frauds.

So the delays are not all incompetence, bloody-mindedness or racism, though that doesn't help you, I know.

Sorry to bring in such a depressing subject. We've all just had a lovely day at Hever Castle Smile Trying to shake off thoughts of work.

Blackduck · 07/08/2014 19:18

Congrats Rosebag!

herbaceous · 07/08/2014 19:55

Ooh I love Hever Castle. Might pay it a visit next week between staying with my sis in Claygate, and my chum in Tunbridge Wells!

And congrats Rosebag! Was this the project you were working on with the mildly difficult person?

MollyAir · 07/08/2014 20:04

Shock Auriga! People forging your signature is a bit of a worry.

Our dc are often asked questions at airports - just ordinary ones like: Have a good holiday? Or: Looking forward to going home?

It appears to be in order to establish that they do indeed understand English, because it's always a bit colloquial.

Dh and I obv look like shifty sorts.

bigTillyMint · 07/08/2014 21:10

Well done Rose and miniBD.

Shock Auriga!

We are now in Granada in a lovely Colonial style hotel with a poolSmile
There wasn't really a view at the very top as it is shrouded in mist, so I let DH go to the crater lake with the DCas I rested my legs!
