Ooops, sorry, I didn't mean to finish the thread.

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 31/07/2014 04:53

Finally arrived after nearly 24 hours travelling but sadly DSs rucksack is apparently still in Houston. DS is remarkably calm but DH is well pissed off as we will have to wait till at least 1 for it to hopefully turn up and he wanted to leave in the morning for Nicaragua where we have 3 nights booked already. And he cant get his ipad charger into the adapter.

Accommodation is very basic with small children running about and moaning loudly, but it isn't 10pm yer

MontserratCaballe · 31/07/2014 05:57

Morning, crepeys!

Gosh, it's early. Herbaceous, I feel your hangover pain from yesterday. I have been up since about 4, as it is customary chez nous for one of the children to have a crisis overnight when I have had a few. She went back to sleep after about 30 mins whereas I was wide awake. I am bound to feel especially fragrant about 3pm this afternoon, when the tiredness and hangover combine. Ah me. It was hugely worth it, though, as he is such a dear friend.

Wilbur, what a pain on the bikes! I am so sorry. Insurance etc is such a bore to have to sort. I find in our house that we wouldn't even have insurance etc if I didn't arrange it. Have the police been any use at all? Hope it gets resolved swiftly and in your favour, even if you do have to do all the legwork.

Rose, huge sympathies on the early waking text message. How is DS doing? When will he be back? Did you get to speak to him last night? Well done on keeping up the fitness challenge.

MI, these young people Shock! What do they know about anything? My pal and I worked out last night (once we'd started the second bottle of rose) that our tutor at university, who had seemed like such an old fool at the time, was probably about 38 when he had the pleasure of teaching us. We more mature wimmin must seem ancient to her, but she will learn (as you will show her.....). I think the Maggie Smith pose is a sound one. Is the bonkers designer the one who is 2 weeks post partum? Huge kudos to her if so.

Hatty, glad DD1 is getting over the separation.

NUFC, your day sounded trying. Hope you are feeling more chipper today.

Loving the BF stories, esp Rudy and her twins. I managed between 1 and 2 years with mine. I was rubbish at giving birth but seemed to get on with feeding and it was a whole lot less hassle than all the bottle / sterilising fandango.

MrsS, sympathies on the job front. It is terrible when you are working for such arses. Have you a viable escape plan?

Hello CV, glad St Ives is proving so relaxing. Fingers crossed for decent weather etc today.

BTM, so sorry about missing luggage. Hope soon resolved so you can do the next leg of the journey.

Right, everyone is slumbering peacefully and there is another ten minutes til alarms go off, children need breakfast etc etc. I do love early mornings, which in our house is just as well. The children are going to spend another day running around in the park with the fab childminder, whilst I sit at my desk and try to meet my deadline writing a report. Piano lessons this evening and they are a bit light on practice. Perhaps I should be mean mummy (even meaner mummy?) and make them do some practice before I march them to the park for 9am. It would be better for them than CBBC but I am not sure my hangover and I are up to the conversation....

Blackduck · 31/07/2014 07:01

MrsS I just cannot believe what an utter crappy situation you are in. How is saying something like that supposed to help? How utterly de motivating.
So Sad and Angry for you.
Thanks for all the wishes - this will be mighty weird as I know two people on the panel and one of them very well! (Always the drawback of internal interviews!)

Lovely (sober) evening with very old friends last night.

hattymattie · 31/07/2014 07:52

BD - Good luck for today.

Mrs S - crap situation - you need to move on.

Today - I am going to start packing!!!!!

BTM - hope the luggage gets sorted. Your holiday sounds amazing. Where is your final destination?

Blackduck · 31/07/2014 08:20

grr on luggage BTM (one of the reasons we cross pack....)

motherinferior · 31/07/2014 08:20

Good luck, BD!

Monty, go for the easiest option.Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 31/07/2014 08:45

LinkedIn today posted "Seven Signs You're too Smart for your Job."

Your projects bore you - oh yes.

You don't see a forward path - right again

People around you don't see a problem - absolutely

Your supervisor has no vision for himself/herself, the department or you - yup

Your employer has not seen the best of you - well how could they?

The choir sings from the "Tried it, didn't work" hymnal - yes, again

No-one around you looks like a role model, mentor or guide - spot on.

Think I will post it to BB...

Blackduck · 31/07/2014 08:59

MrsS - :( It's not a great place to be, is it?

From what you have said posting to BB wouldn't make a difference - she's too dumb to get it....

Rosebag · 31/07/2014 09:41

Good luck BD!!!

BTM aaaargh bloody airlines. Do hope you are reunited with DSs luggage soon. Hope you got some sleep too xx

monty oh lord!!! hangover and sleep deprivation. Hope the report gets done.

DS finally called at midnight. (2am where he is...don't these youth EVER sleep?) he is fine although there have been a lot of changes to his itinerary to avoid the troubles. He's due back on 10th august, so we're on the home run. Not before time, I miss him and have a lot of wibbles about it all.

The night then got a bit surreal, with DD waking up due to the commotion of my phone going off, and coughing a lot for some reason. Gave her calpol for all the good it might do.

Then another early message from DSs friends mum who is on hols in Turkey and hasn't heard from her DS and is worried. He's on the same trip. That was 6am and then my DSis who is in Sityes and had also forgotten the time difference, alerting me to the fact that the boyfriend of a choir member is spouting hatred on FB again.

I'm letting DD sleep on a bit. Wish I could. I think I shouldn't have watched the 10 o'clock news follows by Newsnight before I went to bed. Had the masked terrorist dreams again.
Hoping that another day at the beach will heal all this a bit.
hatty where are you bound for?
MrsS don't all jobs go that way in the end?

motherinferior · 31/07/2014 10:15

I've just dobbed the 25 year old in. And the beauty was I didn't even do it deliberately, just by explaining to head honcho that no, I'd done various things yesterday and was awaiting responses...

Rosebag · 31/07/2014 11:13

Grin MI

NUFC69 · 31/07/2014 11:36

How irresponsible of you, MI. Grin

DD has disappeared back to her old house to clean it now that the furniture has gone. DGS1 has gone to nursery; the poxy DGD is asleep in her cot, DH has taken leylandii trimmings to the tip, and I am having a breather before going out food shopping again (I forget how much young (er) people eat). Keeping my fingers crossed that the house purchase is completed today and they will move in to live there tomorrow.

MrsS, what an awful bunch of people you work for! I think a big rethink is called for. Good luck with it.
Wilbur, I hope you get the bike situation sorted out soon.

Rose, good that you actually talked to DS yesterday; sorry you had a bad night.

BTM, I hope the luggage turns up soon - the best laid plans and all that.

BF DD was very fortunate as she had whooping cough and breast milk was the only thing that she kept down. She was 10 months' old at the time. The really, really odd thing is that when the GC cried when they were babies I could "feel" the milk let down sensation I used to have when I BF their mum. So strange!

bigTillyMint · 31/07/2014 13:30

MrsS, such a frustrating situation for you - not sure what else you can doSad

Got some sleep despite DHs best efforts at fidgeting all night and waking me so earlyAngry - am hoping the DC are sleeping better.Got a few hours to kill before we can find out if DSs rucksack has made it here - TF for free wifi!
No final destination - we are backpacking round, DH has an itinerary of sorts!

Rosebag · 31/07/2014 13:39

Oxytocin NU Grin
And thank you. I feel a bit better now that DD and I have had a beautiful walk to the neighbouring village. It's so easy to lose all perspective at night and when one is tired. I have chosen not to watch the news so far today.
Tilly last time we were in Canada, DS1s luggage also didn't make it. He was 15 at the time and I nearly murdered British airways. He was a sullen enough teenager already. It had his fishing rod and everything. They did catch up with us eventfully as we were moving around. Good luck with it. X

motherinferior · 31/07/2014 13:52

In the continuing saga of the Inferiorette's passport, DP has now taken Umbrage and written to our local (Labour) MP - a rather good letter about how government policies of cutting passport staff have led directly to this predicament etc etc and asking her to take it up at Ministerial level with direct reference to the government promises that are being broken (I may get cross with him, but he's a damn good operator Wink). MP's assistant assures him it is being Taken Up At Highest Level.

hattymattie · 31/07/2014 15:19

MI - I'm sure questions have been asked in the House about the passport situation.

Well done on squashing 25 yr old.

NU - we're off to the Dordogne - bearing in mind we are already in France, not a very courageous destination although we've never been there before.

BTM - you need to post photos.

bigTillyMint · 31/07/2014 15:26

MI fingers crossed for the passport.

BD how did it go?

Hatty, I had a brilliant holiday in the Dordogne when I was 16 - a friend and I went with a youth trip to stay in Belves and got to know the local yoof - had a ballWink

MontserratCaballe · 31/07/2014 15:47

BD, I hope that you have had a productive day and that things have gone well.

I have left work early and am zzzzzzing on the bed for ten minutes before the piano lessons. Our plans for tomorrow have been cancelled and I have never felt cheerier to get the text of disappointment. Pyjamas, pancakes and slobbing out beckon.

Hope everyone is having a good day Smile. Will catch up once children in bed.

motherinferior · 31/07/2014 16:16

I have an empty house. Shock They've all gone swimming, including DD2's best mate (who confusingly has the same name as DD1). Best Mate is one of four (she's a twin) so her mum said cheerily yes of course my darling go off unaccompanied to the pool as opposed to some of DD1's mates who are not allowed to go swimming without a Trusted Adult.

Mr Inferior and I are going OUT tonight. Local pub. May have chips. Shock

MrsSchadenfreude · 31/07/2014 16:48

Chips? Local pub? Can your life get any giddier? Shock On the rare occasion that DH and I walk home from work together we always stop by the pub. We have stopped going via the German boozer though as we can't stop it gets a bit expensive.

motherinferior · 31/07/2014 16:54

OH GOD THE PASSPORT OFFICE.

I have just spent ten (10, X) minutes on the phone to a dame trying to point out in acerbic terms that (a) this has been in the system since JUNE (b) Mr Inferior does occasionally have to switch off his mobile to go into meetings (c) we don't need long explanations - though it would be nice to have one - we need our child's PASSPORT as we are travelling next Weds this is actually not the case as they're in the UK at that point doing hippy t'ai chi, we don't go to France till the following week, but DP, usually the soul of probity, thought it was politic to stretch the actualite a bit .

We have to be phoned by the 'priority team'. Please, I begged, just do it. Are we really likely to say 'stop the upgrade'? I pointed out. No, we have to be phoned. If nobody answers, please please just keep going on, I implored. I even said couldn't we leave answerphone sodding messages saying 'if that's the passport office please get on with the upgrade' but no, has to be Real Person.

Angry Angry

Pass the statins, please.

MrsSchadenfreude · 31/07/2014 17:03

I know it is no help to you whatsoever, but this mess came about when they transferred all the issuing of passports from overseas to UK. Despite having the stats, and the numbers of people involved in the overseas offices, they didn't take on enough staff to cope with the extra work. A lot of the extra work involved with overseas passports is quite "difficult" - eg there are a lot of fraudulent applications, identity theft etc, and they are REALLY time consuming. This wasn't taken into consideration either, as far as I can see. So they are in a right mess, with no clear way out, as there is a recruitment freeze (I am assuming this affects them), so the backlog just gets bigger... They made a mistake on my passport, but I decided I can live with it, rather than be without my passport for months while they rectify it. MP is a good move and usually gets things moving, BTW.

motherinferior · 31/07/2014 17:07

Oh yes, DP's letter went on at length about transferring from the overseas offices. It was really very good. Unlike the letter about public green space he sent to the council where he'd left the L out of public.

magimedi · 31/07/2014 17:12

Grin at leaving the 'l' out!

But it is so bloody frustrating dealing with this sort of stuff.

And it's petty & needless to have to be phoned by the priority team - I'm getting quite wound up for you.

I won't pass statins (was on them for a bit & they are evil) but I reckon a large Wine might just help.
