Ooops, sorry, I didn't mean to finish the thread.

MontserratCaballe · 29/07/2014 20:29

Thank you all so much for the lovely welcome. Wilbur, I'd be delighted if you called me Monty. I am sorry to report that I am not a musician, let alone an opera singer, although I do love music, and singing in particular. I'm actually a lawyer Shock, although I am not in practice at the moment.

MI, is this her first baby? I was especially demented after DD1 was born, and could barely string a sentence together, let alone do a proper job. I don't think fitting in a real job around the baby's naps is the way to go alas. I hate waking up in a panic about work too. Are you feeling better now? I hope so.

Blackduck, good luck for the interview on Thursday. And for the Seasalt sale. There isn't one round here, alas, but I did make a few purchases in the Lyme Regis one at half term. What have you bought?

Hatty, I feel for your DD and her boyfriend. When does term start for her? I suppose with the Eurostar etc keeping the relationship going is easier than in our day but I can imagine her devastation at being apart at such a young age.

Happy anniversary NU - congratulations on 42 years! Wow. Are you doing anything nice to celebrate?

Rosebag, hello there. How are you? It is horrible to feel bad about oneself, and I am always surprised how a little thing can absolutely make my day or utterly destroy it. Hope you are feeling more chipper now. What is your fitness challenge? Lunch on the harbour sounds nice. Where are you on your hols?

Hello Stropperella Smile

QQ, that is one hell of a skirt. Love it. The crepeys and Tamsin clearly share very good taste. I feel a bit sorry for TO and her cad of an ExH. Not that he has shared his side of the story, of course, but her account is very sad. Her girls are sooooo young. What a good job she works with Dennis Waterman to keep her pecker up Hmm.

Vast playdate passed without (too much) incident, thank God. DD1 got a bit overwrought at one point, so we had a melting walk to the swings and an ice cream on the way home. Supper, piano practice and bath all completed, and I was just about to nip downstairs for a quick sundowner when DS pulled out a tooth! He is only 5, but landed face down on his mouth about 2 years ago so his teeth were always a bit wobbly. He lost the other front top one about a week ago, but this one clearly wasn't ready to come out, judging by the blood. I must make sure the tooth fairy doesn't have too many gins and end up writing an apologetic note with the grubby cash tomorrow.

Thanks again for the welcome. It's nice to be here Smile

MontserratCaballe · 29/07/2014 20:30

Sorry, went a bit mad with all the Smile etc faces there. It's the heat!

NUFC69 · 29/07/2014 20:44

Monty, I am Envy at the thought of heat; it's been cold here all day. I am currently slumped in front of the tv watching the Commonwealth Games. Tuesday is the day we have two of our GC, and as the youngest has chicken pox we were in all day. And, as DD moves on Thursday, we will be having the poxy one until she's well again and can restart nursery.

We're not going out tonight as we really had forgotten all about the anniversary and, MI, there are times when I wonder that!

bigTillyMint · 29/07/2014 21:22

Monty, DS lost loads of his first teeth during reception (as DD was losing hers in Y2 - we have some very gappy photos!) - watch out for him starting adolescence early, DS easily passes for 16 (he is 13)!

Most stuff appears to be packed and both DC have chosen some books to takeShock I am praying my Kindle doesn't go wrong! Will see you all tomorrow morning whilst bored at Heathrow, no doubt!

NUFC69 · 29/07/2014 21:44

BTM, have a wonderful time - I am sure you will! I bought my Kindle when they first came out and it revolutionised my holiday reading. I only use it at holiday times as I miss the feel of a book, but the joy of being able to take dozens of books away with me. How long are you away for? Bon voyage!

CointreauVersial · 29/07/2014 21:48

Evening, Monty. Were you lured over from the AIBU thread as well? I should be getting a Finder's Fee, ha ha.

BTM - I didn't know that early baby tooth loss and early adolescence were linked! DD2 lost hers very early (before her big sister, who is 2 years older); please don't tell me I'm going to have two hormonal madams to deal with simultaneously.

I am looking out across the sea, where the sun is setting in a blaze of streaky pink and red. It matches DH's forehead. Grin We had a lovely sunny day on the beach today; the DDs and their two friends spent hours doing a huge, and much admired, sand sculpture of a crocodile. This evening we descended on the town en masse for dinner, but the gods of vacant tables weren't smiling on us, so we ended up having a Cornish Pasty and beer buffet back at the house. I love a pasty.

42 years of marriage??

CV, I think the AIBU thread inspired me to say hello, though I'd been lurking for a bit. I am not usually shy IRL but I didn't want to gatecrash. Anyway, I am here now. Hurray. Are you in St Ives? Have you been to the Porthminster Beach cafe? It is one of my favourite places and my reward for doing all the driving on holidays. I am going back in mid August to Carbis Bay and cannot wait. Crocodile sculpture sounds fab.

BTM, thanks for the info about DS and his adolescence. He is already huge, with size 1 feet at the end of Reception and in age 7 trousers. He is tall and skinny though, so sometimes the trousers are slightly at half mast and he gets a brown stripe at the top of his bottom where his trousers and t shirt don't quite meet. I hope you have a fab holiday, with a swift and safe trip.

Dh has come home grumpy so I have retreated upstairs.

It was me QQ. Beautiful skirt...but I could never wear it as I have big hips and saddle bags. Even when I was think I couldn't wear that shape!
Re post partum, I could never have gone back early...it was an NHS job, client facing. Not allowed to work from home.
Monty In am in West Sussex with DD (14). dH is supposed to be joining us on Friday for the second week. I'm ok...I just feel fat and ugly. I've always been a bit of a Peter Pan but my body has taken a real dive this year and I'm struggling with a sort of redistribution of fat which makes me look very matronly. Our fitness challenge is pathetically tame, but DD and I are doing something physical each day of the holiday and I'm posting it on Facebook so I'll be Blush if I don't do it. We did have a lovely day and a jolly time with friends on the harbour and to the beach after. Well done you on the play date. DD still has one milk tooth that isn't even wobbly yet!
Tilly have a wonderful trip!!
CV your holiday sounds lovely! Glad the weather is lovely there too.

Fretting as haven't heard from DS2 for a few days. His groups are fine but y'know....

Rosebag · 29/07/2014 22:09

Thin , not think

bigTillyMint · 29/07/2014 22:11

CV and Monty, I don't know that it is linked! I just wondered if it might be. FWIW, DS was quite average height in primary, and in Y6 was in the bottom third of the class for height (most of the girls were enormous next to him!) but his voice broke as he turned 12 and he went on a massive growth spurt and he is now 5'10"!

Am all packed, I think. Gadgets all charging...

Stropperella · 29/07/2014 22:20

Arf at Rosebag feeling out on a limb in North London - what about us bumpkins in the Rest of the Country? Grin

Hello Monty :)

MI, I was agreeing with you on the getting back to work after 2 weeks thing. :) I meant, I did it because I had to, but it really was too tough and it didn't work out well in the end. If the person in question doesn't really have to, it seems somewhat over-keen and ill-advised.

Have a super-fantastic holiday and I'm looking forward to seeing pics from exotic locations on FB!

Trying to get dd to sort out her holiday plans here. More difficult than one might think as she has to make a decision and this is not something she likes doing.

originalpiratematerial · 29/07/2014 22:42

Hello all and welcome to all the newcomers Smile. I would rather have my feet nailed to the floor than go on an AIBU thread on here so you won't have seen me previously Grin.

Feeling a bit sad as one of the posters on the runners thread has just been on to say that she's been dx'd with breast cancer and so won't be running for a while as she will be embarking on treatment soon. Bastard disease Angry.

CointreauVersial · 29/07/2014 22:51

Yes, Monty, we are in St Ives - Cornwall is quite a regular holiday destination - we go with great friends of ours who have DCs of similar ages to our three. Last year was Penzance, but this year we are just above Porthmeor beach, and it's quite a novelty not having to load everything into the car when we want to hit the beach (although my calf muscles haven't seen so much action in years with all the climbing up and down the lanes).

Haven't been over to Porthminster beach yet....The DCs love the waves here too much.

BTM - where are you off to?

Blackduck · 29/07/2014 23:27

Links arms with Stropps as an out of London country bumpkin :)

Stropperella · 29/07/2014 23:38

Bumpkin solidarity, BD Grin

The happy hols wishes were to BTM, but happy hols to all crepeys, obviously. Grin

Auriga · 29/07/2014 23:53

Arf at bumpkin solidarity. Can Scottish peasants link arms too?

lalsy · 30/07/2014 08:10

Hello Monty!

BTM, have a wonderful time. Ad MI, darn it about dp's job, no fun at all.

motherinferior · 30/07/2014 08:27

Oh Pirate, that is awful.

I myself have conducted a Ladyjog, which has been inadvertently enhanced because building work near the station means I can't get in the usual way and I have to run uphillShock.

StroppsSmile. I'm sure she feels she had no option, as a freelancer, but I suspect she also just hasn't thought about it. It may be this is the only job she's doing for a few months, of course....

Rudy, I feel your pain on Other People's Views. My meeting on Monday involved several people sticking their oar in because, well, they felt they ought to. Including the 20something who talks to the publisher instead of me, even when it's about my feature ideas. I think she has a plan to take over as 'editor' of the mag, despite absolutely no experience whatsoever.

motherinferior · 30/07/2014 08:29

DP still locked in combat with the passport office....

MrsSchadenfreude · 30/07/2014 08:56

I have a meeting with BB this morning. Not looking forward to it. I think she has also poisoned the new head of dept against me, as she barely acknowledges me.

Spent yesterday doing more admin...

Have been told to come up with some "really challenging objectives" for my job - have asked how to do this, when my job is not, err, really challenging. Got the usual guff about "doing a menial job as a senior manager." Confused

Blackduck · 30/07/2014 09:13

MrsS good luck with BB......

I had a really patronising email yesterday which I restrained myself from responding to in the heat of the moment. I shall write a well considered response the morning - you know one of those 'am I being told to shove it or not?' emails Grin

Meanwhile I am nursing a hangover (I know and on a school night - I blame my mate and his fridge full of champagne) - but at least the interview is tomorrow not today :)
