Thanks Beachy for the frisky title suggestion.

Well, here we all are!

Eh, MrsS, now I want to know what the "unaccompanied minors" lounge looks like...

herbaceous · 16/07/2014 19:29

No reports of bullying today, so maybe teachers having a word has worked. I need to back off a bit: he already rolls his eyes when I ask him who he played with today!

Proud moment this evening. After dinner he asked me to take him through the first few pages of a 'learn the piano' book I'd got him for his birthday, and within 10 minutes seemed to have grasped where C is, and the different rhythms of notes, and read and played a simple tune, while singing the words. Then he read me out an extract from the Guardian's Cook supplement. Then asked to play Monopoly.

No wonder he gets bullied...

MrsSchadenfreude · 16/07/2014 19:51

Stropps - they wouldn't let me in! DD2 reported drinks and snacks, playstations etc.

I remember turning up at the cocktail place and being greeted by Rudy clutching two jugs of something alcoholic.

Stropperella · 16/07/2014 20:04

Herbs, he might take to martial arts if his punches mean ice pack therapy for the recipients. Grin

wordassociationfootball · 16/07/2014 20:06

MI I got DD1 a rechargeable shaver from Amazon for her pits when pressed.

Where is the cocktail place?

bigTillyMint · 16/07/2014 20:20

Yes BD same cocktail placeSmile will PM you WAF

Am very proud of DD for telling boy who was blatantly disrespecting a younger girl to stop. And DS for telling his mate that he too was being disrespectful, despite the boys being DD's age.

Stropperella · 16/07/2014 20:23

Dd is most entertaining on the subject of waxing of the nether regions. She contorts and clutches herself, crosses her eyes and shrieks "Why would you even do that?". Makes me laugh, mainly because I agree with her. She occasionally pinches my razor to do her legs although she only has about 2 hairs and they are invisible.

bigTillyMint · 16/07/2014 20:24

MI, then it's the right time for her to start. If she wants to!

bigTillyMint · 16/07/2014 20:26

I have no idea if DD does her ladygardenShock

Stropperella · 16/07/2014 20:42

We're a bit Scandinavian in our attitudes to nudity in this house - in some respects. Grin There are also no taboo topics of conversation..

Today I found out that chickens can fart very loudly. I am a teensy bit concerned that my neighbour (on the other side of the hedge) probably did not think it was a chicken.

hattymattie · 16/07/2014 20:51

DD1 goes for a professional wax over the summer months. DD2 will have nothing to do with it. I go once a year - in summer when I need to get out my swimsuit. - I think the girl must find it rather scary.

hattymattie · 16/07/2014 20:52

I found WiFi chez my parentsSmile

NUFC69 · 16/07/2014 22:42

It's been pretty miserable here most of the day, Hatty; I hope it's been better for you? I am a bit fed up of weather forecaster going on about the southern heatwave.

I have very few leg hairs these days: another positive result of getting old. Grin

When I was at your stage in life, Rudy, the staying in a hotel and letting the DC run wild would have appealed to me. I hope the tests go all right for your DM.

A glorious morning here after yesterday's torrential rain. I am cadging a lift with DH, who has to get 2 new tyres for his car, and going to the Metro Centre. It would be good to spend some money on S and B.

bigTillyMint · 17/07/2014 07:30

Fingers crossed RudySmile

Another trip to Primarni is looming as DS has now grown out of most of his clothes again and has next to nothing for our impending hols. Hopefully our local will have what we need.

NU, it's boiling here already!

NUFC69 · 17/07/2014 07:55

Mm, BTM, I might just visit Primarni while I am out. In S and B news, I am wearing navy straight leg trousers with a rather nice bright red and navy striped t, which goes beautifully with the big red insect bites on my arms. Sad

motherinferior · 17/07/2014 08:13

I have DD1's report session. So cannot go to DD2's concert. (Given I spent all yesterday morning dedicating myself to her musical career I don't feel particularly miffed - the school jazz band is not, shall we say, one of the musical high points of Lewisham.)

I am trying to weld together DD2 cover for the holidays, in terms of child swaps with her friends, which is feasible but wearing. This is the bit where I get all resentful of DP for having a Proper Job even though I far, far prefer working from home most of the time and would hate to have spend the day in an office being polite to people.

herbaceous · 17/07/2014 08:20

That highly lucrative week of copywriting work I was banking on is now not going to materialise. Boo. I may have to find something else, to shore up the finances before the drought of the coming year, to mix my metaphors.

Blackduck · 17/07/2014 08:22

warm here too..... I am in black trousers and a linen shirt whish is tighter than I recall and clearly indicates radical weight loss is required.

School production today - ds as Buttons.... so I have to get back for the second sitting....

The bathroom has begun arriving (hooks and dimer switches thus far....... extractor fan today, tiles tomorrow.....)

I vote feral Rudy

motherinferior · 17/07/2014 08:41

Oh Herbs, that is PANTS. Familiar pants.

I am the size of a smallish hippopotamus atm.

motherinferior · 17/07/2014 08:43

Herbs, I think my crumblies are going to go for your pitch so at least a couple of hundred will come your way.

motherinferior · 17/07/2014 08:45

Am also mulling over next thread title. Am inclined to go retro Edna-O'Brien with 'August is a Crepey Month' but fear this is too obscure. Or 'School's out for Crepeys'?

Blackduck · 17/07/2014 08:49

'Summertime and the living is crepey'..... (terrible I know :) )
