Shame Remus. But definitely try on irl if you see them. And totally, the Converse don't count at all. They are essential items. Like pants. Hmm We are doing a biggish job on the house, I shouldn't be looking at new clothes at all!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/07/2014 21:32

:)

Like the look of the M&S dress (v Whistles-esque) but more bloomin' polyester and most M&S dresses too long for me too. Grrr.

I've been thinking about the comments re WIT (and presumably other websites) selling things. I'm thinking that most websites sell things, indirectly or directly, don't they? And many people's style who you admire influences you indirectly, or directly, doesn't it?

I'm not, myself, interested in the baby jewellery / mama sections, so I don't look at those bits as they aren't relevant to what I look at the site for. However, I like WIT's style and she has worn a few combinations and styles that I wouldn't have thought of. These, along with other things I've seen, have influenced some of my workwear edit outfit boards and personal outfits, so indirectly her style has led me to recommend and also buy things.

So, I'm wondering, is it the sales aspect that puts you off a website, or is it if the offerings aren't relevant? I don't actually have a view, but find these things really interesting. For me, its if things are irrelevant, and, also, if there is just a blatant selling of things that aren't genuine recommendations. Its like the website broke the deal we have that it has to be honest with me (I don't feel like that has happened w WIT, but I have seen it on some other websites).

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 09/07/2014 14:37

God, that was long winded. Here's a summary: you can sell to me, but don't bore or patronise me.

thepurplepenguin · 09/07/2014 15:03

Hi all, was posting here briefly in June before having to do some pesky final exams and stuff. Trainee solicitor trying to buy entire new work wardrobe etc.

Still having bag dramas and nowhere near sorted for my start date at work (28th August - there's still time, right?!).

I have ordered 3 suits to try from Austin Reed, one black pinstripe, one charcoal and one dark grey. Hopefully one or two of those will do. And bags. Argh. So I didn't get on with the Modalu Pippa. Too big and not good enough quality. I'm thinking of this Jaeger bag that was linked on another thread m.jaeger.co.uk/on/demandware.store/Sites-JGRUK-Site/en_GB/Product-Show?pid=790028H but not convinced by the lack of inside pockets. I like the unmonogrammed dkny saffiano totes as well but they're a smidgen too expensive. Still looking at a budget of £150 ish.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 09/07/2014 15:14

28 August gives you lots of time to get your work wardrobe sorted. At the City firm I worked at, it was all suits and shirts, really. Bags and shoes were where you could get a bit more interesting.

If your online orders don't work, you could sort it in a day trip to Regent St (J Crew is on sale now, ditto Banana Republic) and Oxford St (House of Fraser has a floor that's full of workwear) and then there's John Lewis and Zara. There is a nice TM Lewin in St Christopher's Place. I would just go in with a very clear list of what you want, and take photos, so you don't get bamboozled.

Re bags, how about Reiss? This Harlow is now £95 www.reiss.com/womens/bags/harlow/black/

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 09/07/2014 15:18

Looking for purplepenguin has made me notice this bag, which is now £79, and looks like a good summer bag. Am tempted www.reiss.com/womens/bags/saffron/bone/

Reporting back on J Crew skirt - very cute and flattering, BUT the shape is too flared / dramatic and the length is far too short for me to recommend it for dress down Friday or any other day at work at ALL. Its really a weekend or party dress.

thepurplepenguin · 09/07/2014 15:29

Yes I like the Harlow, particularly in the blue, it's quite heavy irl though. I suppose that's going to be an issue with all big leather bags. I'm such a weed!!

MissBeehiving · 09/07/2014 16:09

Was it LaTrucha who posted the OtherStories silk blouse because mine arrived and it is blooming lovely Smile

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 09/07/2014 16:29

Some bags are stupidly heavy, esp those w chain detail.

Littlepinkpear · 09/07/2014 17:56

I have two Zara work bags and they are heavy when empty, they could not be carried far on a commute.

Belinda - as a future post would work bags and accessories be an option? I always struggle to finish an outfit with belts, scarves and jewellery etc.

margaritasbythesea · 09/07/2014 18:03

It was! I'm glad you like it. I love mine. I really do want to buy a steam generator to make it all crisp and lovely.

margaritasbythesea · 09/07/2014 18:04

I am LaTrucha, by the way.

margaritasbythesea · 09/07/2014 18:54

Oooo thinking about Jaeger bags in the sale now. Can any one see, or do you know, what size this is. Am thinking about buying it for friend for her 50th. She wants something to cart A4 folders around in and blue is her favourite colour. Would it be a good present do you think?

Bearleigh · 09/07/2014 19:14

Purple penguin have you thought about getting one of those pouches that fit inside a (silly) big bag without inside pockets? I have one from Muji that goes very well in my silly big bag without internal pockets. It has lots of pockets and pouches, and is just the business. Smarter/more expensive ones are available.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/07/2014 19:36

Okay - I have shoe news. The Whistles shoes are really, really lovely BUT the soles are stupidly slippery and the 4s were too big. Had they fit me, I would have bought them, as they are really pretty.

I did buy:

[http://www.johnlewis.com/whistles-fiona-2-in-1-ribbed-vest-top-black/p1463229 boring basic bargain black vest]] Comes up v big II bought a ten but it's still quite loose, but is a nice, long length.

This, which I love

MissBeehiving · 09/07/2014 19:56

Nice bag - details from the w/s on size are; Height 35cm Width 49cm Depth 11cm Handle Drop 21cm

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 09/07/2014 20:21

margaritas - that Jaeger bag looks lovely, lightweight and spacious. Perfect for carrying A4 files. Although it doesn't close / fasten, so not if security is an issue. Prob only a concern if travelling on public transport?

Remus - I love that dragon print top!

pinkpear - sure, I will give an accessories post a go. God knows, I've done plenty of shoe ones. I am a shoe person, it must be said.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/07/2014 20:41

Forgot to answer your bloggers selling things question...

My answer is I absolutely hate the whole idea of it - I only want to look at pretty pictures (tbh I don't even read much, if any, of the writing) and I also only want to see things that people have actually paid real money for themselves. They can't possibly judge how 'worth it' something is, if they haven't splashed their own cash on it, so that is another reason I got fed up of WIT. I liked her much more when she was just starting out.

margaritasbythesea · 09/07/2014 21:16

Sorry. I don't know why I couldn't see those measurements. It's a gamble buying something like a bag for someone though, isn't it? (especially a sale one Blush) Although, I do know what she is after....

Littlepinkpear · 09/07/2014 21:32

I think Remus hit it on the head for me. I like reading an honest opinion on bought items. I like seeing a repeat of an item styled several ways and some fantasy possible purchases that have inspired a look or a purchase.

I hate looking at an outfit links and seeing c/o, c/o all the way down. I want to relate to the bloggers I follow. There are several I follow for fun like pink peonies and her totally aspirational (for me) style and some for honesty. Sponsoring/Advertising creeping in to the later just annoys me.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/07/2014 21:34

Yes re seeing real people, who wear their clothes more than once! :)

Littlepinkpear · 09/07/2014 21:58

And also happy to say, yes it was £££ from Reiss but the quality is crap and the hemline has come down already Grin

MissBeehiving · 09/07/2014 22:10

I don't think it was terribly obvious from the website Smile but anyway having found that lovely blouse, I think it is the least I can do Grin

I'd be thrilled if someone bought me that bag Smile

Littlepinkpear · 09/07/2014 22:49

That bag is lovely, I would never get given such a tasteful present!
