Converse or will a cheaper imitation do?

I need a pair of throw-on trainer type pumps for summer, and don't know whether to spend 40-50 on Converse, or will a 20 imitation pair from Next or similar do the job just as well?

£10 white converse look alikes in Peacocks are good. More comfy than my 'real' converse too.

SwedishEdith · 24/06/2014 16:11

Get the copies. Mine are 4 years old now

sonlypuppyfat · 24/06/2014 16:13

I've got some Dunlop ones they look exactly the same but were a tenner.

Glitterfeet · 24/06/2014 17:34

I got some Vans / Comverse style trainers a couple of years a go from New Look. I found them more comfortable and they're still going strong.

Thegreatunslept · 24/06/2014 17:40

I have primark, new look and some eBay one all going strong 1-2yrs later and none cost anymore than £15!

burnishedsilver · 24/06/2014 19:12

The next copies are more comfortable than the real thing.

beccajoh · 24/06/2014 19:13

Sainsburys. £10 a pair and comfy.

Katz · 24/06/2014 19:14

Dd1 has got the Dunlop ones from sports direct, wearing really well so far tenner

PurpleAlert · 24/06/2014 19:31

I bought a really nice pair of converse types pumps from Deutchmann recently. They seem quite sturdy and fit my
hobbit wide feet perfectly. They perhaps won't lay as long as converse but they seem better quality than the cheapy versions that you can buy in primark or New Look.

PurpleAlert · 24/06/2014 19:32

Last not lay

LemonBreeland · 24/06/2014 22:11

I have real converse after years of buying the cheapies. I like my converse but my cheap sainsburys ones from years ago are way more comfy and I don't look like I have clown feet in them.

MrsWinnibago · 24/06/2014 22:13

I like the real ones best. They come up small though so get larger if in doubt.

Lesshastemorespeed · 24/06/2014 22:17

My real converse are really too narrow. I prefer my wider tesco versions.

Lesshastemorespeed · 24/06/2014 22:18

Also dd is willing to accept cheap versions if it means she can have two pairs to wear a different colour on each foot!

SlobDylan · 24/06/2014 22:22

Get copies. No difference in quality ( it's rubber, glue and canvas!) plus I find that converse are exceptionally narrow, and bog standard own brand daps are not. Plus the ££££' involved is just plain daft now. I feel a bit stupid for having bought any converse at all Blush

HerBigChance · 24/06/2014 22:24

Converse definitely don't last as long as they used to. Very disappointed with my most recent pair.

Fancyachive · 24/06/2014 23:21

Converse Smile

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 24/06/2014 23:25

I've got both Dunlop and converse and wear my Dunlop ones more as I find them far more comfy.
They are really cheap on sports direct, I want more in different colours.

wasacasa · 24/06/2014 23:27

Dunlops £12 a pair in various colours. Just as good!

50ShadesOfSummer · 25/06/2014 06:17

I've had both - real and imitation. No real difference in quality. The only reason to get Converse is the name, or if they do a particular style you like.

I only buy Converse in the sale.

NotQuitePerfect · 25/06/2014 07:57

The Next version, especially if you put an in-sole in them, are very comfy & look great.

Cereal0ffender · 25/06/2014 08:02

Now I feel really guilty for buying campers which are even more expensive than converse !

iwantgin · 25/06/2014 08:14

I prefer Supergas - which are the same price as Converse, but seem to last longer and they are much more comfortable (to me at least). I only buy mine in the sale, however.

The cheap copies are fine imo - as even if you splash out the £45 or whatever on a pair of Cons - they will still start to look grubby and scruffy after a few weeks -may as well buy the cheaper versions and replace each season.

youmakemydreams · 25/06/2014 08:17

I have both and really there is no difference in terms of quality. I'm fact my cheap 10 ones from deichmann (sp?) are lasting better than my actual converse. The real thing are really not as well made as they used to be. I like rocket dog jazzin too. Come in much funkier colours.

TheWordFactory · 25/06/2014 08:19

I have both and I think the only real benefit from the real thing is that the colours are cooler.

If you're going for bog standard white, copies are fine.
