Polyhymnia , dh and I have different tastes in perfume so it is quite hard finding middle ground. Hope to though!

No.22
Coromandel
Sycomore

I had a brief flirtation with Bel Respiro, but it wasn't really me. I also quite like Bois des Iles.

selee · 23/06/2014 00:03

I don't think my nearest shop sells some of these perfumes. Or I've not seen them. Although, schezherade, I have heard of sycomore, I think I saw it and sniffed it at Gatwick airport duty free! Smelt quite foresty.
I might order some samples online.

Any reason why only Chanel?

selee · 23/06/2014 00:13

Toysrluv it guess because I'm most interested in Chanel Chance! I wanted comparisons between their other ones, as when I've tried there is often a similar patchouli note.
I've tried a lot of Lancôme perfumes but I think I've exhausted them, and a lot of the current new ones are really quite similar.
But I'm very open to other suggestions...

sycamore is a tree so no wonder it smells like a forest.

sorry OP I really don't get why you have to find 'a middle ground', I would hate it if someone dictated to me what perfume to wear and vice versa.

So your DH has a different taste in perfume to you, let him wear what he wants. You do the same Confused

selee · 23/06/2014 00:14

I do love Prada Candy, although it doesn't last. And Sensous Nude, but also very soft.

Botanic baby ... Because I don't want to stink him out! Middle ground was probably the wrong way of saying it, I'd like to chose one we both adore.

Allure for daytime & Chance at night. Mother has always worn Chanel No.5, must give it a try. I always considered it a mature perfume, but I'm kinda old enough for it now...

ToysRLuv · 23/06/2014 00:18

Have you tried fragrantica? If you look at the at the perfumes you like, it will give suggestions about others you might like. You can also search by notes (e.g. patchouli).

Thanks Alleycat, interesting you say. Chance at night, I think it's quite a flirty perfume lol!
ToysRluv , thanks for the suggestion, I'm going to take a look...

oh that makes a bit more sense then, I kind of see what you mean now! anything that they positively hate or barf at is not so good.

but I still think that whatever you feel smells good on you is the best indicator, I am sure of it! Grin

AlleyCat11 · 23/06/2014 00:33

Yeah, I find Chance heavy, though it's my fave. Apart from Chanel, L'Occitane are the only perfumes I wear. Love them for casual use. Just got two of the L'Eau ones in the sale. Much lighter than Jo Malone.

AdoraBell · 23/06/2014 00:36

Allure, and I also like Number 19 for summer.

HamAndPlaques · 23/06/2014 07:50

selee some of the perfumes mentioned are part of the Exclusifs range, which are only sold in chanel boutiques and some dept stores (e.g. Selfridges)

polyhymnia · 23/06/2014 07:53

On the DH question, my DH certainly doesn't dictate to me ( am a feminist, economically independent, etc) but, as said, he actually hates perfume as it makes him feel nauseous, so I think it would be inconsiderate to go out with him covered in it.

I understand his POV as it happens as I find the great majority of perfumes cloying and sickly (actually wear Annick Goutal).

FellReturneth · 23/06/2014 07:53

I have never known a Chanel that I would't wear, and I've owned most of the mainstream ones at some point or other.

Currently I am lusting after No 22, Cuir de Russie and Coromandel. I am going to get some at the duty free next week (the airport where I live has them all) but I am having an internal struggle about which one to go for.

Rosa · 23/06/2014 07:55

No5

FellReturneth · 23/06/2014 07:57

oh and 28 La Pausa.

Hell, I just want them all. Confused

I used to wear no 19 when I was very young. Aamazing really because it's quite a grown up, difficult to wear and rather austere fragrance but I loved it. I am not one to go for the obvious, and I never really did the popular sweet girly perfumes.

The exclusives are divine, so hard to pick just one.

BeatriceBean · 23/06/2014 08:52

I'm still fairly new to perfumes, but love no19, it really "does" soemthign to me, and I love catching a whiff of its scent when my arm brushes past.

What does "difficult to wear" mean?

Rowboat · 23/06/2014 10:59

No 5 for special occasions (Dh bought me some to wear on our wedding day) and coco madamoiselle for every day, though haven't worn in ages as have spent the last 3 years breastfeeding!!(or feels that waySmile )

canny1234 · 23/06/2014 12:38

Am I the exception to the rule here?I really don't like any Chanel perfumes I've ever tried.I would like to try the exclusives and the Gardenia but the standard ones don't smell good on me at all.
I also don't feel the need to wear a 'Chanel' as there are so many other lovely perfumes out there these days.
I'm also not sure of the purpose of this thread ( mildly suspicious).

polyhymnia · 23/06/2014 13:10

No you're not the exception - I don't like them either. But perfume and tastes on it are very personal.

selee · 23/06/2014 13:58

Canny1234 what are you suspicious of..? I'm a bit offended! I like Chanel perfumes and start a thread with a question. That is all.
