Bra fitting, just read a thread, now think I'm wrong!

M&s measured me yesterday as 36d. Just read the first page of the long bra thread and seen that m&s fitting is far from rated on here. Chances are I'm not 36d then? I bought a bra and It does feel very comfy though

What are your measurements?

Littlemoocow · 13/06/2014 21:02

32 under bust and 39 round my boobs

Ooh, excited, love a bra revelation! Quick! Measurements!

Spurtle · 13/06/2014 21:03

Try 32f I think, and sizes either side too. Am sure an expert will me along soon.

monkeyfacegrace · 13/06/2014 21:04

36d??!!

Fucking M&S. YOU GET THAT GOOGLE? Stupid Marks and Spencer bra fitting.

fledermaus · 13/06/2014 21:05

I'd try 32F too.

Littlemoocow · 13/06/2014 21:06

32f, really? The cups look huge on an f. To be honest, I've been wearing a b or c my whole life. I was already mega surprised at the d cup diagnosis. This is a bit of a minefield!

Fairylea · 13/06/2014 21:07

How can m and s keep getting this so so wrong!!?

SorrelForbes · 13/06/2014 21:08

Yep 32F.

Basically, M&S have added 4" to your under bust measurement to come up with a 36 band. I'm surprised they didn't put you in a 36C actually Grin

Wearing your new 36D, how far can you pull out the band? If you scoop, is there any overspill? The cup volume of a 36D is roughly equivalent to a 32E so I would expect a little quad boob tbh.

ouryve · 13/06/2014 21:10

32F, but you'd probably be a 34E/F in a lot of M&S bras as they run rather small in the band.

And the cups on a 32F are about the same size as the cups on a 36DD. They just go round further, so you don't get armpit bulges.

Littlemoocow · 13/06/2014 21:12

I can pull the band about 2-3 inches away from my back. I don't have quad boob but I'd be surprised if I did, my boobs aren't very big IMO. I'm still very confused about this f cup revelation!

Littlemoocow · 13/06/2014 21:13

By the way, that's on the tightest fastening.

OP posts:
Littlemoocow · 13/06/2014 21:15

I'm wearing it now. As I lean forward to type this, the cups actually look a bit empty and gape at the top. When I I stand up straight my boobs fill it nicely. Confused...

Fairylea · 13/06/2014 21:33

For starters a new bra should always be on the loosest hook so as it stretches you can make it tighter.

On the loosest hook I bet the bra is huge around you.

You need to try some 32f bras :)

SorrelForbes · 13/06/2014 21:34

Is it a moulded cup type by any chance?

Littlemoocow · 13/06/2014 21:37

Yes it is moulded. Are they bad? All I wanted was a flesh coloured plain tshirt type bra that won't show under a white silk top, but they were all moulded or so it seemed. There's a john Lewis near me, should I try there for some 32f's? Are they better at fitting than m&s?

OP posts:
SorrelForbes · 13/06/2014 21:51

Moulded bras are difficult to fit as they don't mould to your shape IYSWIM? Also, if you're a bit bottom heavy (have lost fullness) then you tend to sink to the bottom of the cups.

Good alternatives are the Cleo Juna (still lightly padded but not moulded), Panache Idina, Fantasie Rebecca and the Cuvy Kate Daily Boost.

JL are worth a visit and are much, much better than M&S!

Littlemoocow · 13/06/2014 21:59

Ah yes I see. I think I may have have lost some fullness after 2 babies. I'll take this one back to m&s then and have a look in Jl. Thank you.

Ha ha - gotta love M&S. I've been fitted properly on here as a 30DD. Went to M&S Blush as I needed a strapless bra in a hurry. She measured my ribs and the tape measure was about 29 inches. "You're a 32 band" she announced. Then she looked at my boobs and said they were a C cup. No actual measuring for this bit. So most of my boobs were in the band. Was comfy though Grin even though I was flat chested all day (formal dress for wedding)!

Littlemoocow · 13/06/2014 22:13

I just looked on the m&s website. There's a fitting video on there, where a bra "expert" measures a woman as 31 round her ribs, then says she adds 4 or 5 inches. Why does she do this??

OP posts:
TimeForAnotherNameChange · 13/06/2014 22:15

Cos she's an out of date idiot advised by out of date idiots in head office...

StatisticallyChallenged · 13/06/2014 22:20

What timeforanothernamechange said - it's an outdated method from before lycra was invented!

Littlemoocow · 13/06/2014 22:25

That's interesting, I never knew how or why it was done like that

hatchypomagain · 13/06/2014 22:30

Oh bra ladies I have a question for you .... Do I need to just try a different style or am I still sizing too small if the underwire digs in under my armpit. I have full boobs and to fill the cup the wire is soooooo high under my arms. Measuring 34j.
